Zu is an enemy from Final Fantasy X-2. It is one of Spira's largest flying fiends, having been rumored to carry shoopufs off in their talons. With their tremendous wings they send shock waves crashing into their enemies.

Battle

They always appear alone. Zus are not terribly difficult to defeat normally, but in Oversoul, they decimate the party for good with their Chicken Wing Lv. 3 unless the party's HP exceeds 10,000.

Strategy

It is recommended to try and cast Protect as soon as possible to reduce the amount of damage it can do.

Fiend Tale

In the Fiend Tale endings, a notable Zu was created from the spirit of treasure hunter who was killed off by a Claret Dragon while venturing Mt. Gagazet in search of treasure. Returning to the mountain to recover his memory, Zu crosses paths with the Claret Dragon and defeats him. Soon after, having achieved his goal to return to the site of his death, Zu departed to the Farplane while leaving the earned treasure to Yuna.

Etymology

[view · edit · purge]Zu means "fire" in the Sumerian language. Anzû, before misread as Zû, is a lesser divinity or monster in several Mesopotamian religions. He was conceived by the pure waters of the Apsu and the wide Earth, or as son of Siris. Anzû was seen as a massive bird who can breathe fire and water, although Anzû is alternately seen as a lion-headed eagle (like a reverse griffin).
