Zirnitra is a powerful enemy in Final Fantasy XIII. It is the mark of Cie'th Stone Mission 46, 52, 53, and 59. The reward for defeating it in Mission 46 is access to the Retail Network Gilgamesh, Inc., and the Dragoon Lance weapon for Fang.

Mission[edit | edit source]

46 - On Silent Wings[edit | edit source]

Mark: Zirnitra
Locale: Faultwarrens - Titan's Throne
Class: A

The soul's journey has no end. The truth it seeks lies hidden deep within.

Entreat with the zirnitra, who scours the skies in search of answers, and become one with life's circle here again.

52 - Head in the Clouds[edit | edit source]

Mark: Zirnitra
Locale: Archylte Steppe - Eastern Tors
Class: A

Why do men dream of flying? And why must we be without wings? True, a nest of vipers hangs in our sky. Yet were the sky the province of all things harmful to life, still would I gladly soar amongst the clouds. What cruel irony then that I should be charged with smiting a winged zirnitra...

Regardless, I had best head to the eastern tors. Then again, crystals cannot fly, and some Cie'th can...

53 - Freedom from Fear[edit | edit source]

Mark: Zirnitra
Locale: Yaschas Massif - The Pass of Paddra
Class: A

Curse my luck! I've lost it again. Last I saw, it was heading in the direction of... where? The southern part of the Yaschas Massif, perhaps? Damn that zirnitra and its wanderlust! It's caused me so much trouble, I think I'd kill it even if that weren't my Focus!

...And be a crystal when I do. I think I'd better concentrate on the present, and forget about what's to come. This is going to be a long walk.

59 - Two-faced Fiend[edit | edit source]

Mark: Zirnitra
Locale: Sulyya Springs - Subterranean Lake
Class: A

The soul thirsts for knowledge of the truth it hides within. Yet this truth can only be perceived in the solitude of conflict and discord.

Entreat with the zirnitra, whose moths pierce solitude with wrathful cries, and become one with life's circle here again.

Stats[edit | edit source]

Battle[edit | edit source]

Zirnitra is a flying enemy, and can inflict various status ailments on the party with its ranged attack, including Poison, Deprotect, Slow, and Daze, and can dispel as many as eight status enhancements, though only two have a reasonable chance of taking effect. Its Feeding Stoop attack in particular is powerful and can easily kill anything short of a full-health Sentinel.

Strategy[edit | edit source]

Zirnitra is not immune to Death; the player can make up a team of Attrition (SAB/SEN/MED) with Vanille as the Saboteur and party leader, and also bring a Sentinel and a Medic. After debuffing Zirnitra Vanille can use Death until it falls.

Even without using Death, the party should debuff the Zirnitra with Deshell, Deprotect, and Imperil. This can be done while a Commando is attacking and a Sentinel defends. COM/RAV/SEN or RAV/RAV/SEN can be used to stagger it while the Sentinel draws its attention. Once the Zirnitra is staggered, the battle is easily won.

If Lightning has learned Elude, she can dodge Zirnitra's attacks as Sentinel, and equip Nimbletoe Boots to improve the effectiveness of Evade when not using Elude.

Etymology[edit | edit source]

In Wendish mythology Zirnitra, or Zir, is a black Slavic dragon and the god of sorcery. The image of Zirnitra was employed on a Wendish flag when the Wends fought the invading Saxons. Zirnitra literally means magically empowered.
