Zenos yae Galvus is a playable character in Dissidia Final Fantasy NT and its arcade version. He is the second character to represent Final Fantasy XIV.

Profile

Appearance

Default
  • Imperial Crown Prince I - Default coloration, taking his main appearance from Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood minus his helmet. Zenos is a tall young man, donning a full-plated armor colored in burgundy, with winged motifs on his shoulder pads. He wears two separately colored sashes; a red sash that also can be seen wrapped across his body and arms, and an orange sash wrapped around his waist. In battle, he carries around a "Sword Revolver", a large barrel-shaped holster in which he sheathes and switches between his three katana that he wields individually.
  • Imperial Crown Prince II - 1st alternate coloration. Recolors his armor dark navy with his sashes in blue and shades of turquoise.
  • Imperial Crown Prince III - 2nd alternate coloration. Recolors his armor dark silver with his sashes in grey and shades of blue.
1st Alternate Costume
  • Empire's Militar Ceremonial Suit I - Default coloration. "Zenos" as he appears after the liberation of Ala Mhigo following the events of Stormblood. He no longer wears a full set of plated armor, but retains aspects of his default appearance coloration, wearing burgundy metal boots and an armored chest plate along with a red sash seen around his waist and tucked in his boots. He wears a pair of brown pants, fingerless gloves and shirt underneath his armor, and now has a large white overcoat with golden orientations and large shoulder pads that he wears over his shoulders as opposed to wearing it through his arms. His Sword Revolver is now more metallic, almost cybernetic akin to the Garlean Empire, with a primarily silver design with red markings.
  • Empire's Militar Ceremonial Suit II - 1st alternate coloration. Recolors his armor and coat black and his sash purple.
  • Empire's Militar Ceremonial Suit III - 2nd alternate coloration. Recolors his armor black, his coat olive green, and his sash blue.
Extra Alternate Costume
  • Legatus of the XIIth Legion I - Default coloration. Zenos in his default appearance now donning his helmet, as seen in promotional art and in-game throughout Stormblood. His helmet resembles a mask with four horns; two smaller horns extending from the crown, while the two larger ones extend from the side. The mouth and nose of the mask match the color of his burgundy armor, while the forehead and eyes are white with a skull-like motif and a large orb on the forehead, matching the same one on Zenos's forehead.
Weapons

Zenos wields katanas. In battle, he switches between three different katanas as he did in Stormblood, though only one can be replaced through Weapon sets; his permanent katanas are called The Swell and The Storm:

  • Ame-no-Habakiri - Default weapon. A red katana forged by the Kojin, one of the many beast tribes that inhabit Hydaelyn, and was acquired by Zenos during the events of Stormblood.
  • Susano's Tachi - 1st alternate weapon.
  • Shinryu's Katana - 2nd alternate weapon.
  • Omega Samurai Blade - 3rd alternate weapon.

All weapons hail from from the world of Final Fantasy XIV but only The Swell, The Storm and Ame-no-Habakiri are equipped by Zenos. Susano's Tachi, Shinryu's Katana and the Omega Samurai Blade are loot that can be dropped in high difficulty versions of the boss battles against Susano, Shinryu and Omega respectively.

Zenos' default player title is Nameless Resonant and his manikin, the Mirage of a Resonant, is aquamarine.

  • Using Art of the Swell, Art of the Storm, or Art of the Sword will switch out Zenos's current blade for the one appropriate for that skill.
  • His stance will remain effective if the player holds only DFF2015 I Icon when using Art of the Swell, Art of the Storm, or Art of the SWord. Releasing DFF2015 I Icon, using a different ability, or passage of a set amount of time will end the stance.
  • Hitting with Art of the Swell, Art of the Storm, or Art of the Sword at least one time each will activate the buff Aetherial Resonance. The unique EX skill changes to Storm, Swell, Sword while the buff is in effect, and will return to normal when the move hits or time passes. While in effect, interrupting and poise values become the same as those for Vanguard characters.

Creation and development

Zenos yae Galvus was revealed as the seventh DLC character and the first to be out of the Season Pass on March 24, 2019. He was added into Dissidia Arcade on the 26th of March and into Dissidia NT on the 11th of April, 2019.

Allusions

  • Weapon Sets only modifying the appearance of one of Zenos's katanas alludes to his warmonger personality, since he only seeks the strongest of weapons to strike down the strongest of foes.

Trivia

  • Zenos is the second warrior to be from an expansion instead of a character from the original installment, Kam'lanaut being the first.
  • Zenos is the first new character since the console release of Dissidia NT to be released without an alternate outfit, with the stated reason being that the proposed alternate would potentially be a spoiler to the unreleased Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers, and would be released at a later date.
  • Prior to his announcement, Final Fantasy XIV producer and director Naoki Yoshida approved his inclusion to Dissidia along with Nael van Darnus and Alphinaud Leveilleur.
  • Even though there was a Final Fantasy XIV stage by the time Zenos was announced, his debut trailer takes place in the Final Battlefield stage original from Dissidia NT instead of Porta Decumana.
    • This refers to his role in Stormblood, where he fuses with Shinryu. The Final Battlefield stage acts as the arena of the final boss of Dissidia NT, which is also Shinryu.
    • This would make him the third character thus far to not be featured during their debut trailer in their respective game's stage, after Kain Highwind and Ultimecia. Unlike the other two, however, Zenos is not a returning warrior.
