Enemy Intel

Zenene is an enemy in Final Fantasy VII Remake and "Episode INTERmission", one of Professor Hojo's experiments.

In the base game, it is fought in the Drum during Chapter 17, "Deliverance from Chaos", in the 2nd and 3rd Wards of the Drum. Zenene can also be fought in the Shinra Combat Simulator as part of the "vs. 3-C Soldier Candidates" challenge, and the "vs. Dynamic Duos" challenge where it is accompanied by a Hellhound. In "Episode INTERmission", Yuffie and Sonon fight a group of zenenes in the Combat Simulator Prototype when Scarlet traps the duo there in "Escape".

Stats[]

Battle[]

Zenene hobbles around nimbly, attacking the party with its bites and rolling attacks. If the player stays close, it'll use Throat Clamp, pouncing on the target to restrain them and bite two times. It may also use Ghenghana, spitting a poisonous goo on the target that may inflict Poison Poison.

Once Zenene has 20% health left, it'll enrage and become enveloped by a green glow, which causes all its attacks to inflict Poison Poison. This enrage also empowers all its abilities: its rolling tackle is now used twice in a row; Throat Clamp's pounce covers slighty more range and it bites one additional time; Ghenghana now spreads as nearby puddles after hitting its target or the ground. In addition, Zenene also gains access to Mephitic Shower while enraged, spraying a poisonous gas in an arc in front of it.

Zenene has no elemental weaknesses, and takes half damage from Fire Fire.

Strategy[]

Tifa's ability combos are good against it. The player can also quickly pressure it with magic and Cloud's Triple Slash. It is best to keep on the move, and thus play as a faster character like Tifa or Cloud when there is a choice, though the slower characters Barret and Aerith can also do it. When the zenene jumps back it is going to pounce, so the player can move to the side of it to avoid the attack. Zenene's breath attacks are short ranged, so whenever the attack name pops up, the player can avoid it by running around the enemy. The attack where they ball up and rush from a range can be blocked.

When staggered, the player should be able to kill the Zenene before it powers up. If the player gets poisoned, Chakra is a fast way to heal it.

Hard Mode[]

On hard mode Zenene is more aggressive, and can enrage regardless of its remaining health.

Episode INTERmission[]

Yuffie being a ranged character makes it easier to stay out of the range of its pounce and poison attacks. Sonon can draw the beasts' ire toward himself with Incite. Synergized Art of War is powerful.
