Yuffie Kisaragi is a playable character in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Wielding a shuriken as her weapon, she can be used in both ranged and melee combat. Yuffie excels in agility and versatility in offense. Her skillset allows her to evade opponents, and deal with opponents using both physical and magic damage, and to change her elemental affinity on a whim.

Yuffie joins the party in chapter 7, "Those Left Behind", and becomes a mainstay thereafter. She is mandatory at several points in the story, and leads the party briefly during the chapter in which she joins the party. Yuffie is one of five date options for the Gold Saucer in both chapter 8, "All That Glitters", and chapter 12, "A Golden Key".

If Yuffie is transformed into a toad, she appears as a green toad with a headband, her protective gauntlet, and a miniature 4-point shuriken on her back.

Yuffie is mostly unchanged from her Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade gameplay, with new moves added but none removed. Her skillset is based partly on her original Final Fantasy VII appearance.

Battle[]

Yuffie can easily do both physical (top) and magic (bottom) damage.

Yuffie can perform both close-range and long-ranged attacks, and has balanced attributes. While her normal attacks are melee, Throw causes her to throw her shuriken for continuous physical damage, and use Elemental Ninjutsu for ranged magic damage from basic attacks. New to Rebirth is an added ranged attack she can perform by attacking immediately after dodging. Though Yuffie has low durability, much like Tifa, her mobility and evasiveness make up for this.

Yuffie's unique ability, Throw, latches her shuriken on the target, which will spin and deal consistent damage, as well slowly build-up her ATB. This is useful not only for varying her attacks but for movement. When her weapon is thrown, her unique ability becomes Retrieve, allowing her to recall the weapon early by leaping toward it. Doing so allows her to quickly close the gap on enemies, or move between them.

The deadly dodge mechanic from Remake has been incorporated into Yuffie's kit, allowing her to hit enemies in a radius around her. This pairs greatly with her ability to cluster enemies together with some of her abilities, allowing for quick damage rack-up in addition to high ATB building.

Yuffie's adaptability mean that, like Cloud, she can be geared either toward physical or magic damage, depending on needs, or geared toward both. Because of her low durability and her ability set, she will likely serve in a damage-per-second role as opposed to a supporting role.

Attributes[]

Yuffie's attributes are balanced, but do not excel in any area (aside from sharing her Speed Speed with Tifa). Her Strength Strength and Magic Magic are exactly even, and medium among party members. She also has the fourth-highest MP pool.

With the second-lowest HP pool, and low Vitality Vitality and Spirit Spirit, Yuffie's durability is low. This makes it important to either shore this up with equipment, to pair her in parties with members who cover her with defensive roles, or to make good use of her evasive abilities.

Equipment[]

Savage dagger.

Savage dagger.

Yuffie wields shuriken as her weapon, which is used either for melee attacks or for ranged damage with Throw. When the shuriken is thrown, her attacks become ninjutsu, and are magic-based. Yuffie's stats are balanced, meaning her weapon choice will greatly affect her playstyle, and many weapon skills affect her elemental damage or her ATB building. She has two default weapons: 4-Point Shuriken 4-Point Shuriken, which also has balanced Attack Power Attack Power (determining physical damage) and Magic Attack Magic Attack (determining magic damage), and Savage Dagger Savage Dagger.

Because of Yuffie's strong potential as a spellcaster and in magic damage output, it can be advisable to equip her with savage dagger or later Crescent Sickle Crescent Sickle, which has the highest magic attack boost of her weapons. This is her optimal choice in most builds where she is focused on magic damage, and has weapon skills aimed to ATB building, but comes with a cost to her attack power which can be detrimental.

Other weapons for Yuffie increase her physical attack power instead. Crystalline Cross Crystalline Cross has the biggest increase in her attack power, but a heavy sacrifice to her magic damage. Bird of Prey Bird of Prey and Twin Viper Twin Viper are more balanced, where the former has weapon skills boosting her critical hit rates, and the latter's weapon skills can help use limit breaks more often.

Along with the 4-point shuriken, the Fuma Shuriken Fuma Shuriken for Yuffie also has balanced stats, but overall lower stats. Its weapon skills focus on ATB building, however, which can make it preferable to the 4-point shuriken overall.

For accessories, Yuffie is a major beneficiary of the Corsair's Compass Corsair's Compass, which grants her three ATB at the start of a battle. As her playstyle revolves heavily on building and using ATB rapidly, she is one of the best users of the accessory. Earlier on, either Hi-Power Wristguards Hi-Power Wristguards or Sorcerer's Earrings Sorcerer's Earrings, depending on whether she is built for physical or magic damage (or to make her more well-rounded if she is built to one or the other, due to her using both damage types) is ideal. For armor, Yuffie's low durability can mean she may prefer durability over materia slots, but if built as a spellcaster, she will want to maximize materia slots and to rely instead on her evasiveness for survivability. Yuffie can be a good spellcaster because she can double up with her Doppelgänger ability.

Abilities[]

Doppelgänger.

Doppelgänger.

Yuffie's abilities play into her high mobility and versatility as a physical or magic damage dealer, benefiting from using many ATB abilities. Her starting abilities are Art of War and Brumal Form, both returning from Remake.

Two of Yuffie's abilities, Elemental Ninjutsu and Doppelgänger, are not attacks but are core to her playstyle and increase damage output. Elemental Ninjutsu allows her to alter the element of her regular attacks after using Throw. Doppelgänger, new to Rebirth, creates a life-sized marionette of herself that while active copies Yuffie's attacks and commands with a slight delay, dealing partial damage. This copies both her abilities and any spells cast (which is particularly devastating when combined with Aerith's Arcane Ward or Synergy Materia Synergy Materia), and is crucial to cast.

Yuffie has two abilities, Banishment and Purification, that are both leveled up by frequently using ATB abilities. Both are attacks, where the former purely deals damage which can be elementally infused with Elemental Ninjutsu, while the latter deals damage but drains HP and MP for Yuffie. Ideally, after Yuffie uses a number of her abilities or spells, she should cap off with a fully charged Banishment or Purification.

Windstorm.

Windstorm.

Brumal Form and Blindside both play into Yuffie's evasiveness and maneuverability. Brumal Form is a key ability Yuffie, consuming partial ATB to quickly dodge an attack, refunding nearly the full ATB bar if it lands a perfect dodge. Blindside has Yuffie perform an attack even when bound or amidst a damage animation, thus making it an effective counterattack and a means of her staying mobile in battle.

The rest of Yuffie's abilities are attacks. Art of War is a melee attack comprising several slashes, and using it will boost the follow-up basic combo-attack damage, either ninjutsu or melee. If used a second time, it becomes Supreme Art of War. Windstorm is a Wind Wind-based attack that pulls enemies toward her, and has with two versions: when her weapon is thrown it will deal physical damage at targets around her thrown weapon, but when used while she is holding her weapon it will deal magic damage and pull enemies toward her. Shooting Star is a stronger version of Throw but one that requires an ATB charge, making it ideal as a way of using an ATB charge (for Banishment or Purification) while she intends to use ninjutsu.

Storm's Fury, Yuffie's ultimate ability acquired from her folio, comprises several strikes before dealing immense damage. However, it costs three ATB charges, meaning it cannot normally be used.

Synergy abilities[]

Partner Synergy ability Effect
Cloud Strife Cloud Strife Maelstrom Strike Limit level increase Limit level increase
Halcyon Descent Stagger time extension Stagger time extension
Barret Wallace Barret Wallace Ninja Carbine Limit level increase Limit level increase
United Refocus Temporary three ATB bars Temporary three ATB bars
Tifa Lockhart Tifa Lockhart United Refocus Temporary three ATB bars Temporary three ATB bars
Cyclonic Kick Stagger time extension Stagger time extension
Aerith Gainsborough Aerith Gainsborough United Refocus Temporary three ATB bars Temporary three ATB bars
Mystic Multiplication Temporary unlimited MP Temporary unlimited MP
Red XIII Red XIII Hack and Slash Limit level increase Limit level increase
United Refocus Temporary three ATB bars Temporary three ATB bars
Cait Sith Cait Sith Moogle Pinwheel Temporary unlimited MP Temporary unlimited MP
United Refocus Temporary three ATB bars Temporary three ATB bars

Yuffie's versatility allows her to benefit from synergy abilities in a number of ways.

Yuffie expects to use different ATB abilities together in rapid succession, meaning United Refocus can be extremely effective for her. In addition, it is a requirement to use her Storm's Fury ability (barring Corsair's Compass).

Yuffie's single-target damage can make her effective against staggered enemies. As such, Halcyon Descent and Cyclonic Kick can be used just before an enemy is staggered to allow her to get the most out of this.

Yuffie's limit breaks are all damage abilities, and she thrives on damage output. Maelstrom Strike, Ninja Carbine, and Hack and Slash can unlock these stronger attacks.

Yuffie can gain temporary unlimited MP through Mystic Multiplication or Moogle Pinwheel. Because Yuffie is excellent as a magic damage dealer, but has only a decent MP pool, this can unlock even greater offensive magic potential, making it a devastating possibility for her.

Synergy skills[]

Type Name Partners
Offensive Shuriken Sync Cloud Strife Cloud Strife, Barret Wallace Barret Wallace, Tifa Lockhart Tifa Lockhart
Foxflame Aerith Gainsborough Aerith Gainsborough, Red XIII Red XIII, Cait Sith Cait Sith
Defensive Ninja Bazooka Cloud Strife Cloud Strife, Barret Wallace Barret Wallace, Tifa Lockhart Tifa Lockhart, Aerith Gainsborough Aerith Gainsborough, Red XIII Red XIII, Cait Sith Cait Sith

Yuffie's two offensive synergy skills are different in nature. Shuriken Sync serves somewhat as an alternate to Throw in that it performs a melee and ninjutsu attack while her partner follows up, while Foxflame allows her to charge up a stronger magic-based ninjutsu attack.

Yuffie's defensive synergy skill, Ninja Bazooka, is a dodge that performs a quick counterstrike. It therefore serves as an alternative to her dodge roll and Brumal Form.

Materia[]

Yuffie begins with the Steal Materia Steal Materia. With her Master Thief skill core, she is the best user of the ability.

Yuffie's use of Doppelgänger means she is a big beneficiary of First Strike Materia First Strike Materia to use it to open the battle. With ATB Boost Materia ATB Boost Materia, she can double this to instantly use both Doppelgänger and Elemental Ninjutsu. ATB Assist Materia ATB Assist Materia allows Yuffie to take advantage of her performed abilities to benefit her teammates. Skill Master Materia Skill Master Materia can further benefit Yuffie's ability to build ATB quickly.

If Yuffie is built toward magic damage, she can be an effective spellcaster. As such, giving her offensive Magic Materia Magic Materia is important, especially if she combines this with Doppelgänger and Arcane Ward, or even with synergy materia. Yuffie can benefit further from Magic Up Materia Magic Up Materia and MP Up Materia MP Up Materia too, as her MP pool is not typically the best. Magic Focus Materia Magic Focus Materia will also allow her to get the best out of her spells.

If Yuffie is instead built toward physical damage, Strength Up Materia Strength Up Materia is beneficial. Speed Up Materia Speed Up Materia can help her playstyle also.

Because Yuffie has low durability, at least one materia slot should be used to alleviate this. HP Up Materia HP Up Materia must be equipped on her at a minimum. If space is available, Vitality Up Materia Vitality Up Materia and Spirit Up Materia Spirit Up Materia can also be used, but should not take precedence over more attacking materia.

Limit breaks[]

Yuffie has three limit breaks, having two more added since "Episode INTERmission". Bloodbath returns from Intergrade as her initial limit and functions the same. Inexorable End is her level 2 limit break, and functions as a similar attack with an explosive hit at the end. Devastation, her third limit break, is learned from her folio late in the game. It summons a geyser of water to damage foes. To raise limit level, the Yuffie needs to use synergy abilities with this effect with a partner while in battle, or wear certain accessories that achieve this.

Quests[]

Main scenario[]

Yuffie is briefly controlled in chapter 4, "Dawn of a New Era" at the culmination of the Junon parade, but does not become a full controllable party member until chapter 6, "Fool's Paradise". When climbing up Mount Corel in chapter 7, "Those Left Behind", Cloud briefly leaves the party after seeing the robed men jump into a river. Yuffie takes over as party leader and uses her acrobatics and a grappling hook to climb the mountain and get a minecart. Yuffie also fights the gigatrice at the peak of the mountain.
