Etymology[]
Rantsukunehito (ランツクネヒト?) is a phonetic transcription of German Landsknecht, a mercenary of the 15th and 16th century. They were hired by rulers or nobility and fought mainly in groups and with pikes. Yeoman, a free man owning his own farm who appeared from the Elizabethan era to the 17th century, fought in a similar way.
