Yang is shirtless, with red bands on his wrists, red pants tied at the ankle, a yellow sash around his waist, and flat brown shoes. He also wears red earrings, and has a red tattoo on his left shoulder.
Personality[]
Story[]
Act 1, Ch. 4: The Snowy Peaks of Crudelis[]
Summoned into the conflict by Materia, Mog recruits this polite and protective monk at the Snowy Peaks of Crudelis. Although Cecil recognizes him and attempts to greet him as a friend, Yang is under Kefka's control and attacks the party. Defeating him brings him back to his senses. Yang is ashamed of having been made to fight his friends, but Terra, who had also been controlled, assures that it wasn't his fault and that he can make up for it by joining them to close the torsions.
Lost Chapter: The Power of Valor[]
Yang and the other warriors of light explore an abandoned palace when they hear an unmet warrior in battle with monsters. When Rem recognizes the warrior as Cater, Yang joins her to investigate. They arrive after Cater has dealt with the enemies, and he commends her on her courage in facing the monsters by herself. Cater is baffled by Yang's and Steiner's strange medieval attires and asks if they are circus performers. Rem and King step in to explain that Yang and Steiner were summoned from worlds other than Orience, and they were all called to an entirely new world.
As Mog extends an invitation to Cater to join the warriors of light, she sprints off to check an unexplored section of the palace. Yang joins the others as they give chase to Cater to ensure her safety.

Allusions[]
- Yang attacking the party when first encountered is a reference to his temporary brainwashed state in Baron in Final Fantasy IV.
- Yang's EX ability is based on the Band maneuver of the same name in Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. However, his daughter Ursula was not written into the story until Act 3. In her place, Yang makes a qi clone of himself to attack the enemy formation. He appears as Ursula's partner for her EX ability, also drawn from a Band between the two of them.
- Yang's LD ability is also based on a Band, in this case with Edge. Although Edge is recruited ahead of Yang in a regular playthrough, the former can be skipped should a player not have advanced beyond Chapter 1 and a draw featuring Edge is not available. Thus, as with the above EX ability, Yang again creates a qi double of himself.
