Emperor Xande

Xande is a villain in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, based on the boss from Final Fantasy III. He appears for the first time in patch 2.3 Defenders of Eorzea as the last boss of Syrcus Tower.

Appearance and Personality

Xande has white hair, white pupiless eyes, and dark blue skin with golden yellow markings and red forearms. He appears with great muscle mass shown by his exposed upper body, he wears a blue cape, orange pants, an orange and blue sash wrapped around his waist with a demon shaped buckle at the top-center of it, and brown boots. During battle, the lines on his body glow blue, similar to Amon's outfit.

Compared to Yoshitaka Amano's design for the original Xande in Final Fantasy III, this version appears much more rugged and aged. His facial features are somewhat reminiscent of Highlander Hyurs and Roegadyn.

While he initially exhibits a very confident and assertive tone during battle, an Echo flashback from late in his reign shows he was pensive and brooding despite having finally conquered Meracydia. He confides to his soulless clone servants that the process of dying and being revived left him spiritually scarred, having realized his accomplishments in life is destined to fade away after death. This nihilistic view ultimately led to his decision to reduce the world to nothingness.

Xande Throne

Xande on his throne at the top of Syrcus Tower.

Xande was the founding emperor of the Allagan Empire who desired to expand his dominion prior to death. Ages later, the current Emperor Amon used the technologies of his people to resurrect Xande within a clone body to restore their empire to its former glory by making a pact with the Voidsent of the World of Darkness. However, Xande sees the pointlessness of existence and decides to establish the pact in a way that the Cloud of Darkness would wipe out all of Eorzea. Though the events of the Fourth Umbral Era buried Xande alive within the Crystal Tower, he returns after the Seventh Umbral Era unearths the Crystal Tower with the Adventurer leading a campaign to stop Xande and negate his pact with the World of Darkness.

Battle

Emperor Xande is featured as the final boss of the Syrcus Tower. His most notable attacks are as follow:

  • Knuckle Press: Xande punches the ground beneath him, damaging any melee fighters that didn't get out of the way and throwing them back.
  • Aura Cannon: The emperor releases a beam of energy in a line extending to the edge of the arena.
  • Ancient Quake: Slam his staff into the ground, releasing a shockwavbe that inflicts earth damage on every alliance member. A stronger version called Ancient Quaga is used during his Imperium attack later in the fight.
  • Burning Rave: Several targeting circle appear beneath a number of players, which will erupt in a fiery explosion.
  • Aetherochemical Explosion: He will summon a group of yellow orbs in the arena, which will then follow to blow up dealing raid-wide damage. In order to counter this, at least one person must step into the circles around each orbs, thus erecting a barrier around it and mitigating the damage dealt.
  • Starfall: After some time, he will teleport to his throne. He will then summon a bunch of devices which, if not dealt with quickly, will cause a comet to fall on the group dealing massive damage to every player. It is better to focus first on the lesser Stonefall Circles at the edges of the arena, and in the end destroy the Starfall Circle at the center. The first time he uses this, only three Stonefall Circles appear. The second time has six Stonefall Circles.
  • Imperium: After he tries to summon the comets, he will cast an ominous black orb on the head of one party member for each alliance. The orb will then explode, leaving behind an AoE pool that grants Levitate. The damage dealt can be split between people, so it is necessary to stack up as to both mitigate damage and gaining the effect of Levitate, which is crucial in order to avoid the incoming Ancient Quaga attack. This attack is always followed up by a Burning Rave attack right as Levitate wears off.
