The Wyrmhero Blade is a greatsword in Final Fantasy XII. It is a special weapon with abnormal properties making it useful in specific set-ups. The Wyrmhero Blade is similar to the key items Sword of Kings and Treaty-Blade in that it does not require a license to use. This means anyone can equip it and regardless of job in the Zodiac versions.
Wyrmhero Blade is by far the slowest weapon with an extremely long charge time, however, it also has the highest combo rate and one of the highest attack powers. This means it can potentially have a high damage output, though it depends on the combo rate, which only gains long chains when the wielder is near death (staying below 6.25% HP yields maximum combo up to 12 hits). Its low charge time makes it bad for taking out multiple opponents, but combo hits take no charge time to execute, and with the Genji Gloves equipped in conjunction with the Wyrmhero Blade, it will combo every time. The long charge time can be mitigated somewhat with Haste and Berserk, which also stack with each other.
The blade has the highest evasion of all weapons (excepting the secret Seitengrat in the Zodiac versions). The Wyrmhero Blade deals Holy damage, same as the Excalibur, which is usually a better choice in greatsword for general use. Wyrmhero Blade's damage can be boosted further by equipping it in conjunction with the White Robes.
The other significant feature of the Wyrmhero Blade is that it grants the Bravery and Faith statuses to its user (and is the only weapon to grant statuses, making it reminiscent of greatswords from Final Fantasy Tactics). This makes it more convenient as its damage output is even higher without having to specifically add Bravery in another way. The weapon's auto-Faith also makes it useful equipment for magick users, who can cast magick with it without the charge time penalty associated with melee attacks.
The Wyrmhero Blade can be obtained as the "Dragon Crest" in the bazaar price list, and costs 65,535 gil. To obtain the items required, the player must have defeated most of the game's superbosses, making it mostly a trophy item. The player can use it against Zodiark, however. In the Zodiac versions the Wyrmhero Blade can be obtained mid-way through the Trial Mode (Stage 50; rarely stolen from Famfrit), meaning it can be used in the main game and the tougher battles in the Trial Mode. Furthermore, the removed damage cap means the weapon can achieve its full damage output capabilities. Wielding the Wyrmhero Blade with the Holy-boosting White Robes makes it the strongest weapon in the game on a character with good Strength.
The Wyrmhero Blade is called "Tolo's Sword" in Japanese, and is a reference to the sword wielded by Erdrick (known as Loto in Japan). Its attacks create Dragon Quest sound effects when it hits or misses, and its price in the Bazaar is the same value as the maximum total experience points attainable in the original Dragon Quest games.
Wyrmhero Blade is one of the swords wielded by Gilgamesh who refers to the sword as the "Blade of Legend". Wyrmhero Blade is the one left behind after Gilgamesh is defeated, and if the player inspects it they get the following message: Appears to be just an ordinary sword of legend. When the player leaves the room Gilgamesh rushes back to retrieve the sword.
