Wymer is a minor character in Final Fantasy VII Remake. He is a resident of the Sector 7 slums of Midgar and a prominent member of the neighborhood watch.[1] He helps Cloud Strife get started as a mercenary in the area.
History[]
Wymer tracks the requests that come to the watch.[1] In "Home Sweet Slum", Tifa suggested Cloud chat with Wymer at the neighborhood watch's office, as he could have work for him. Upon arriving, Wymer warmly greeted Tifa and asked if she needed help. She introduced him to Cloud, who enthusiastically responded that the neighborhood watch was always looking for experienced fighters who could deal with the "bigger critters". Cloud confidently responded that he'd "take on anything" for the "right price". An amused Wymer commented on his attitude, offered some challenges if he sought out clients for details, and promised that if Cloud proved himself, he could find him more jobs, commencing the "Problem Solving" quest.[1]
After Cloud finished each client's respective job, he returned to Wymer and was offered more work. Wymer thanked him for helping the item store owner, sending him to eliminate a rabid Shinra attack dog lurking in Scrap Boulevard. Shortly after, he arrived there himself, angered the hound, and drove it to an area where it could be easily eliminated. Once the hound was taken care of, Wymer thanked Cloud, who asked when the dog was first sighted. Wymer answered that it was during the morning, questioned if Cloud had heard about a secret underground Shinra lab, receiving a skeptical answer that left him surprised. He was nonetheless content the "bastard" of a dog was eliminated.[2]
Wymer survived the Sector 7 plate fall and refuged in Sector 6 with the other survivors in "A Broken World". Upon returning to the ruins of the Sector 7 slums, Barret was glad to see Wymer and asked if anyone else escaped, Wymer was not sure. Wymer commented on the tragedy and told Cloud's party they needed able-bodied men and women.[3]
In "In Search of Hope", Wymer was concerned about the secret underground Shinra lab, mentioning that most of the neighborhood watch were searching for survivors, believing the monsters within the lab would become a threat. He requested Cloud's party's aid, commencing the "Subterranean Menace" odd job. When the party returned after having felled Type-0 Behemoth, Wymer thanked them for their help. Barret told him to stay strong and received a likewise response reminding him that "grounders" don't "break easy".[4]

Wymer is a middle-aged man with an average build. He has light skin, medium neck-length brown hair, a thick beard, and gray-blue eyes. He wears a gray cap, a gray tee shirt under an olive green vest, faded blue jeans, and faded black boots.

Wymer is a serious, esteemed, and leaderly man who cares deeply for the denizens of the Sector 7 slums, protecting them and always willing to lend a hand as a member of the neighborhood watch. He respects the helpful and those who prove themselves, promising more jobs for those he deems capable.[1] He stays informed, knowing of a rumor about a secret Shinra lab beneath the slums.[2]
After the Sector 7 plate collapsed, Wymer is crestfallen and actively looks for able-bodied men and women willing to help. He is grateful for Cloud, Tifa, and Barret's aid. He maintains a sense of stoicism, telling Cloud's party that "grounders" don't "break easy".[3][4]
Gameplay[]
In Chapter 3, "Home Sweet Slum", Wymer hires Cloud for the "On the Prowl" odd job to defeat a Shinra attack dog, Wrath Hound, located in the Scrap Boulevard.
In Chapter 14, "In Search of Hope", Wymer commissions the party to slay the Type-0 Behemoth in the Underground Test Site in the "Subterranean Menace" odd job, and bequeaths the Wrecking Ball for Barret as a reward.
