Regular Wristlet.
Description
The Wrist is the basic armlet in Final Fantasy IX that everyone but Steiner and Freya can wear. It teaches Flee-Gil, which lets the party manually escape battles and still earn a fraction of the gil the enemies would have yielded when defeated. The Wrist is used in synthesis and is an ingredient in the "Cotton Robe trick" for early game gil farming.
Obtain[]
The Wrist can be stolen from Masked Man at the beginning of the game. The player has three thieves so stealing all items should be quick. It is later on found in the Theater Ship crash site in the Evil Forest, on the left of the spiral staircase . Wrists can also be bought from Dali for 130 gil, and stocking up on them here is key to the money making trick.
Mechanics[]
The Wrist provides 5 physical Evasion and 3 Magic Evasion, slightly improving the wearer's chance to avoid damage.
Use[]
The Wrist is starter gear the player can equip onto Zidane, Vivi, or Garnet until they can get the superior Leather Wrist from the Prison Cage boss in Evil Forest and find one in the Ice Cavern.
The Flee-Gil ability is not very useful, though as there is nothing else to equip early on the player may as well use it.
The Wrist can be used in synthesis to make the Cotton Robe. Gil can be harvested by synthesizing the Cotton Robe for 1000 gil and then selling it for 2000 gil. Each time one synthesizes Cotton Robe x99, they make a profit of roughly 60,000 gil. As money is more useful early on, it can easily be done three separate times prior to getting the Blue Narciss:
The first time visiting Dali, the player can buy Wrists for 130 gil each. Visiting Lindblum for the first time, the player can buy Steepled Hats for 260 gil each and synthesize the robes there, stocking up on hats afterward. Later, on the way to Treno as Dagger, the player can detour to Dali and buy Wrists and synthesize them into Cotton Robes in Treno. Later still, the player can buy Steepled Hats in Black Mage Village, buy Wrists while getting the Burman Coffee during the Card Tournament (the player can leave Treno before doing the tournament and head for Dali) and synthesize the Cotton Robes in Treno. Towards the end of the game, Black Mage Village changes its wares, with Steepled Hats no longer for sale. The player can still buy them from Atla's Mogshop in Burmecia.
The guest characters from Tantalus can also wear the Wrist, though the player is no obligation to outfit them.
