The Wizard's Hat is a low to mid-ranked mystic headgear in Final Fantasy XII that boosts the wearer's Magick Resist by 12 and Magick Power by 4, and in the Zodiac versions, MP by 47.

Obtain[]

Original[]

The Wizard's Hat is sold for 1000 gil in Rabanastre after visiting Dreadnought Leviathan, and also by Dyce outside the Tomb of Raithwall. It is found as a treasure in Ogir-Yensa Sandsea's Platform 2 - Refinery (71% chance to appear, 15% chance for gil, 50% chance the item treasure is the Wizard's Hat without the Diamond Armlet equipped Map 27 Ogir Yensa Sandsea). It rarely drops from the Nekhbet, a Rare Game enemy found in the Sand-swept Naze area in the Dalmasca Estersand, and is rarely stolen from the Alpha Wolf on the Dalmasca Westersand.

Zodiac[]

The Wizard's Hat is sold for 1000 gil in Rabanastre, Bhujerba, and Dalmasca Westersand after visiting Leviathan, and by Dyce in Nam-Yensa Sandsea and the Tomb of Raithwall. It is found as a treasure in Ogir-Yensa Sandsea's Platform 2 - Refinery (75% chance to appear, 35% chance for gil, 50% chance the item treasure is the Wizard's Hat without the Diamond Armlet equipped), in Nam-Yensa Sandsea's Demesne of the Sandqueen (75% chance to appear, 50% chance for gil, 50% chance the item treasure is the Wizard's Hat without the Diamond Armlet equipped), as well as in the Trial Mode Stage 33 with the Diamond Armlet equipped. It still rarely drops from Nekhbet and is rarely stolen from the Alpha Wolf in the Dalmasca Westersand.

Use[]

The Wizard's Hat is a low to mid-ranked mystic hat, giving 12 Magick Resist and 4 Magick Power, as well as 47 MP in the Zodiac versions. Mystic armor offer magick-related bonuses that affect all types of magickal actions, from casting black magick to damage an enemy, to casting white magick to heal the party. Magick Power is also a factor when determining damage dealt by katana, staves, and maces.

In the Zodiac versions, White Mage, Red Battlemage, Black Mage, and Bushi can equip it, and so the Wizard's Hat is only useful to buy if the player has chosen any of these License Boards for their party's first jobs. The superior Lambent Hat is available at the same time from Dyce, however, and so the player may want to skip the Wizard's Hat in favor of it. The player could get it early from the Alpha Wolf, which would allow them to skip all the early mystic hats; Vaan starts with Steal, but the Wizard's Hat is a rare steal from the Alpha Wolf, which is not as common as the basic variant, and the enemies in the Westersand are tougher than the ones on the Estersand.

Etymology[]

Wizard is another name for a Magician. Wizards in fantasy literature and RPGs often draw from the fiction of J. R. R. Tolkien, whose Wizards of Middle-earth are a group of beings outwardly resembling Men but possessing much greater physical and mental power. Each Wizard has robes of a characteristic color, Gandalf the Grey being a quintessential example.
