The Windslicer Shot is ammunition for guns in Final Fantasy XII. Guns cannot be equipped without owning some kind of shot. Owning the Windslicer Shot means the player can use an unlimited amount, and shots do not need a license to be equipped alongside a gun.
Windslicer Shot makes the gun-wielder's physical damage wind-elemental, able to exploit enemy weaknesses and certain weather conditions. It ties with the Dark Shot for being the strongest shot.
Obtain[]
Original[]
The Windslicer Shot is not bought from shops, but sells for 1000 gil. It is found in Cerobi Steppe's Old Elanise Road . The player can come to the steppe early from the Tchita Uplands via a chocobo.
The shot is also made in the bazaar set "Armor-piercing Shot" alongside the Spica gun. The set costs 15,200 gil and is made by selling four Ring Wyrm Scales, five Silver Liquids, and seven Wind Crystals.
Ring Wyrm Scales are obtained from Shield Wyrms on the Cerobi Steppe and Ash Wyrms in the optional part of Great Crystal. Silver Liquids are obtained from certain amorphs: Foobar (Garamsythe Waterway and the Nabreus Deadlands), Hecteyes (Henne Mines and Draklor Laboratory), poached from the Oiling, and stolen from the Rare Game Cubus. Wind Crystals are obtained from various enemies, such as from the aforementioned Ash Wyrm, and from the Mirrorknights in Feywood past the Mist blockade.
Zodiac[]
The Windslicer Shot is not sold in shops but sells for 3,500 gil.
The shot is found as a treasure in Subterra's Umbra - South (70% chance to appear, 20% chance for an item, 50% chance the item treasure is the Windslicer Shot without the Diamond Armlet equipped) and in Trial Mode Stage 65 with the Diamond Armlet equipped.
The shot is still made in the "Armor-piercing Shot" bazaar set, which now requires four Ichthon Scales rather than Ring Wyrm Scales (previously being the requirement for Mud Shot's set, which was made much harder to get in the Zodiac and coupled with the ultimate gun). Ichthon Scales are obtained from Focalors (Sochen Cave Palace and the Nabreus Deadlands) and Piranhas (Phon Coast). The set is also cheaper now, at 8,900 gil.
Use[]
The Windslicer Shot adds 4 points to the gun's power, the most of any shot, tying with the Dark Shot. The player can use it whenever the enemy is not weak to any other shots, or they are not looking to use an ailment-inducing shot. With the ailment shots, the player can swap on-the-fly to a stronger shot once the ailment takes effect.
The Windslicer Shot holds the wind element, dealing double damage to enemies weak to wind. This makes it powerful against earth enemies that tend to be weak to wind, and in any windy weather, including all storms (it can be hard to see if the weather is windy as the backgrounds are static; the weather is considered windy when the characters' hair and clothes move rapidly). This means that the Windslicer Shot is especially good in outside areas during the wind. Wind damage is not diminished by any weather or terrain. Both wind and fire damage are boosted in windy weather, but wind element has the benefit or not being diminished by rain.
What it comes to ranged damage, a gun-user with Windslicer Shot is excellent in windy weather compared to a bow-user or a crossbow-user, who tend to miss during wind, a fairly common weather condition in Final Fantasy XII.
Windslicer Shot is good against earth enemies, like some mantises, cactoids or malboros, but guns do not work well against elementals and entites or against flan, or any enemies with the "Resist Guns and Measures" passive ability, reducing its overall usefulness. Some enemies also resist wind damage, meaning the player could be better off with preceding shots against these foes. However, against wind-weak enemies and even any enemies that do not resist wind, the Windslicer Shot remains a good choice of ammunition for a gun-user, especially since it can be boosted by weather. The shot is good against the Wild Malboro mark and Hashmal.
The shot is only useful to procure in the Zodiac versions if the player is using a Machinist or a Shikari with the Shemhazai license.
