The Wind Slash is a weapon for Yuffie in Final Fantasy VII. It can first be found in the Cargo Ship. Wind Slash has modest stats, but provides all three Materia slots with double AP growth.
Obtained[]
Wind Slash is found in the Cargo Ship during "The Stowaway Strategy", in a treasure chest immediately before encountering the boss. Later, it can be purchased in Junon for 2,000 gil after the player has the Highwind; by this point, the Twin Viper renders it obsolete.
Mechanics[]
As the Wind Slash has a base Attack stat bonus of 30, the base damage for physical attacks when it is equipped is in the following formula:
where "Level" is Yuffie's current level and "Strength" is her Strength stat. The Wind Slash also has an Attack% (Accuracy) of 103%, and grants a +7 bonus to Yuffie's Magic stat.
Use[]
The Wind Slash is outclassed by most of Yuffie's weapons even when it is obtained in terms of pure stats, but is useful as an early way to gain double AP. All Materia on its slots gain double the AP they normally would, making it useful if the player wishes to level some Materia up quickly and early.
Wind Slash has only three slots, and all should be given to Materia that can level up. None can benefit from Support Materia, which can be detrimental if Yuffie is being built towards a magic damage role (though Yuffie is viable for either physical or magical role), and can limit her ability to clear waves of enemies. To account for this, giving her or another character an Enemy Skill Materia on armor, with an ability such as Matra Magic or Aqualung, can allow her to clear waves of enemies.
Wind Slash is outclassed by both the Twin Viper and Rising Sun. The latter is a very strong late game weapon with higher-tier stats and four linked Materia slots, while the former is a simple upgrade over Wind Slash with an additional Materia slot. When the player has access to either of these, Wind Slash becomes redundant. Yuffie is equally as competent as any character with a double AP growth weapon around the time Wind Slash is obtained.
Etymology[]
The weapon is called "Kazekiri" in Japanese.
Kazekiri means "wind cutter" in Japanese.
