The Wind Shrine is a shrine built to protect the wind crystal in Final Fantasy V. It is accessible in Bartz's world for a mandatory quest, and later in the merged world where it is abandoned in the latter. The Wind Shrine is where the first five jobs in the game are acquired. A healing pot lies at its bottom, with water the scholars here use to heal injuries.
History[]
The Wind Shrine was presumably built sometime after the crystals and Planet R split a thousand years prior to the events of Final Fantasy V.[1] Sometime later, Cid Previa built a device to amplify the wind crystal.[2]
At the beginning of Final Fantasy V, the amplification device broke, and the wind stopped blowing. King Alexander Highwind Tycoon flew from Castle Tycoon to check on the wind crystal, accompanied by his chancellor and some scholars. As the king went up to the top floor to look for the crystal, the shrine was overrun by monsters, forcing the chancellor and scholars to flee to a room on the first floor where they became stuck.[3]
Bartz Klauser, Galuf Halm Baldesion, Lenna Charlotte Tycoon, and Faris Scherwiz came looking for King Tycoon, meeting up with the scholars on the first floor. On the way up, they encountered and defeated the Wing Raptor, and then reached the crystal room, finding the crystal shattered. King Tycoon pleaded with them to save the other three crystals, and the shards from the wind crystal resonated with the party and the other crystals, giving the new Light Warriors their energy and granting the wind crystal's jobs: The Knight, the Monk, the Thief, the Black Mage, the White Mage, and the Blue Mage.[4]
Geography[]
The Wind Shrine is located in the middle of a forest surrounded by mountains, not too far from the shore of a northern continent. It is northeast of Tule, and northwest of the Torna Canal.
The Wind Shrine itself is a temple resembling ancient Greek architecture. The shrine has many pillars with patterns carved into them, and several growths down many of the walls and pillars highlighting the shrine's age. It bears some similarity to the Island Shrine.

Quests[]
The only quest at the Wind Shrine is the one to reach the crystal room at the top and obtain the crystals. Because no jobs are yet available, all characters are Freelancers but with no abilities. The enemies are not too difficult, though healing items will be needed at times. Wing Raptor is fought as a boss at the end, but is not too difficult; the player simply needs to attack only when its wings are exposed. After the quest is complete, the player never needs to return.
Once the party has the Blue Mage job, they can learn Goblin Punch from the Black Goblins and Aero from the Moldwynds that appear as random encounters at the shrine.
Musical themes[]
The background music in the Wind Shrine is called "Sealed Away" (封印されしもの, Fūinsareshi Mono?).
