WikiProject Square Enix (also known as WPSE) is the name of the collaborative project dedicated to improve the quality of Square Enix articles on Wikipedia, and is the successor to WikiProject Final Fantasy specifically for Final Fantasy. As of December 2015, the Final Fantasy branch of WikiProject Square Enix had produced 14 featured articles and over 65 good articles.[1]
History
As WikiProject Final Fantasy
WikiProject Final Fantasy was created by Seancdaug in 2005 and lasted as a distinct wikiproject.
The project was particularly active in 2006, when several contributors joined in a large-scale effort to produce as many Featured or Good articles as possible in a short amount of time. These contributors eventually went on with their lives and nowadays the project is largely driven by individual efforts and maintenance work, perhaps lacking a charismatic leader to channel the various contributions towards a more focused goal. Many users who were once active in WikiProject Final Fantasy eventually left to join the Final Fantasy Wiki on Wikia, feeling dissatisfied with the policies and guidelines of Wikipedia, and the limited coverage.

In early 2011, the project managed to scan most of the Japanese Final Fantasy-related Ultimania interviews that have never been translated into English before; however, the project lacks translators to uncover what secrets and mysteries these interviews have been keeping away from the English fandom for decades.[2]
Biggest contributors
The following members of the WikiProject significantly helped extensively in Good Article and Featured Article pushes; specifically, those were with the project for more than a year and significantly contributed to at least 3 Final Fantasy-related Featured Articles around 2006-2007. They are listed in alphabetical order.
Bluerfn joined Wikipedia in July 2006. His exploits were mostly focused around Ivalice related articles, such as Ivalice, Final Fantasy XII FA, Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and thenIvalice games that have been released such as Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, Final Fantasy Tactics A2 and Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions. Bluerfn also helped with Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy VIII and Vagrant Story FAs.
Crazyswordsman joined Wikipedia in December 2005. He was a major source of information and detail for Final Fantasy and gaming articles. His passionate work pushing for Featured Articles (FAs) on the older FF games has been without parallel. Crazyswordsman was an invaluable member of the team during FA reviews, tirelessly editing and providing help whenever needed. Crazyswordsman has extensively worked on at least 5 FAs. Outside WPFF, Crazyswordsman worked on the Chrono series of articles, as well as the Link (Legend of Zelda) FA. Crazyswordsman also restored the Final Fantasy Wiki for in-depth information that cannot be covered on Wikipedia.
Deckiller joined Wikipedia in July 2005. He has been invaluable to WPFF by providing feedback on what Wikipedia policies and current editing practices are relevant to our articles. Deckiller has nominated/co-nominated and sponsored many of the WPFF bids for FA and Good Article (GA) status. He has been a leader in trying to get WPFF to be a good example of how fiction can be well displayed in Wikipedia. Deckiller has been extensively involved in the editing or nomination of twelve FAs, the copy-editing of several others, and the Final Fantasy VIII featured topic. His other focuses on Wikipedia include copy-editing, reviewing featured article candidates, editing various non-fiction articles, performing administrative functions, and other tasks.
Pre-2006 team
The pre-2006 team helped to lay the foundation of the Wikiproject; many of them went on to help in the 2006 FA pushes. Unfortunately, none of them remain active in the project.
Hibana joined Wikipedia in July 2005. He was instrumental in tweaking several of our featured articles, as well as pushing some of the main articles, such as Final Fantasy V, to GA status. Hibana was also a major component to the maintenance of our GAs and FAs during most of 2006. Unfortunately, this user left Wikipedia in late 2006, like many of the original members of the project.
PresN joined Wikipedia in 2006. Some of his biggest contributions have been on video game music articles, including the entire "Music of the Final Fantasy series" topic as well as the music of several other series and video game music composers. He also writes articles on video games themselves, and sometimes branch out to other areas such as the lists of Hugo Award winners. In prior years he used to WikiGnome about and run the WP:VG deletions, new articles, and assessments pages, but for the past few years He has focused almost entirely on writing articles. As of November 2010 he is an administrator on Wikipedia.
Renmiri joined Wikipedia in January 2006. She was immediately a major help in the 2006 GA and FA pushes, especially those related to the former featured topic, Final Fantasy X. Renmiri has also improved many articles with images, general advice, and stylistic fixes. She also strives to establish a positive atmosphere within the project. Her work outside the project includes improving the Link (Legend of Zelda) Featured Article, formatting/design, fixing categorization, and general cleanup.
Ryu Kaze is perhaps the user who sparked the entire 2006 GA/FA project. He arrived on Wikipedia in January 2006, and his edits were Final Fantasy-related from the onset. With more than 5,000 edits in the short period of 6 months, Ryu Kaze quickly blazed a trail of achievements for the project and for Wikipedia as a whole, with seven Featured Articles, fifteen barnstars, and many other honors. Ryu Kaze's greatest contributions were leading the substantial rewriting of the Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy X, and Final Fantasy X-2 articles, among several others, to make them concise, comprehensive, and worthy of a FA nomination. Ryu Kaze's leadership did not stop at WPFF articles; during his much too short period at Wikipedia, he also has weighed in during many editor disputes to the benefit of civility; he also lend a hand to many other projects, including the Shadow of the Colossus FA push. Ryu Kaze has also translated many Japanese pages from the Final Fantasy Ultimania books and has scanned countless of pictures for articles.
ZeWrestler joined Wikipedia in August 2003. In his time with WikiProject Final Fantasy, he made a large series of tweaks to WPFF's articles, with more substantial work geared toward the middle of the series, such as Final Fantasy VI. ZeWestler has also worked substantially on an array of projects and topics outside WPFF.

- WikiProject Final Fantasy infamously made it to the Wikipedia list of "lamest edit wars" three times due to three articles:
- Final Fantasy VIII – Week-long debate regarding the "Controversy/Criticism" section about whether or not Final Fantasy VIII has a "massive" fanbase or a "fanbase as large as the fanbase of Final Fantasy VII". Other wording issues were also discussed. Unfortunately, all options required that sources be cited. The article has since become a featured article.
- Squall Leonhart – Is Squall a hero or a protagonist? Many reverts between "hero", "protagonist", and variant forms of each ensue as an accompanying Talkpage debate weighs the definitions, connotations, and comparisons of the respective terms relative to Squall's role in Final Fantasy VIII; other Final Fantasy articles suffer collateral damage.
- Tifa Lockhart – Does Tifa, a character in a PlayStation game (Final Fantasy VII), have "ample breasts"? Lengthy debate over wording, whether breast size is POV, and the entire concept of mentioning something that silly. And what exactly is her hair color supposed to be, anyway — black or brown?
