Perform a rising attack, striking all enemies within range and lifting them from the ground. Can be used in midair.
Description
Wicked Wheel is one of Garuda's default Eikonic Abilities in Final Fantasy XVI that the player can assign to Clive's loadout. Clive will manifest Garuda's claw and rise up into the air, damaging all enemies in his vicinity and lifting them alongside with him if they are small enough. Wicked Wheel can be used while airborne.
Obtained[]
Clive gains access to Garuda's powers as part of the story, during "Wings of Change", after the events in Caer Norvent. Wicked Wheel is already learned.
Mechanics[]
Clive can use Wicked Wheel in battle whenever it is equipped to his current loadout. He can have two Eikonic Abilities alongside his Eikonic Feat, which for the wind loadout is Deadly Embrace.
Wicked Wheel has Clive rise into the air while attacking all enemies around him, lifting all small enemies, all the while dealing damage. Wicked Wheel can be used when airborne to bring Clive even higher. Clive can then continue to perform aerial abilities while in midair, and bring grounded enemies up to him as well if they can be pulled with Deadly Embrace. He can also chain into an ability that will bring him back down to attack enemies below, like downthrust or Upheaval.
Wicked Wheel activates the battle technique, Wicked Combo, when used to lift an enemy into the air and then chaining into a 4-hit sword combo.
After being used, the ability has a 27-second cooldown before being able to be used again. Upgrading/mastering the ability has no effect on its cooldown.
AP cost | Effect |
---|---|
Already learned | Able to equip Wicked Wheel to Clive's wind loadout. |
525 (Upgrade) | Delivers more hits. |
1000 (Master) | Able to equip Wicked Wheel to any loadout. |
Use[]
Wicked Wheel is worth upgrading to deliver more hits if the player is using it in their loadout. It is an easy way to bring Clive airborne alongside any smaller enemies he is currently in vicinity of, disrupting the enemies' actions when they are being lifted. The player can then chain into attacks that bring Clive back down, such as downthrust or Upheaval, or continue into aerial combos, such as with Gouge or even Ignition. If the player holds the attack button (default input being ) while Wicked Wheel is happening, they can follow up with aerial burning blade.
Wicked Wheel is also a good ability to use after a formidable foe's "mini stagger" from Deadly Embrace to deal damage to their will gauge. However, Wicked Wheel's usefulness may drop off later into the game when the player has more Eikonic Abilities in their arsenal, as small enemies can be taken out in various ways, and Wicked Wheel cannot launch formidable foes.
During the chronolith trial with the Garuda's abilities, triggering Triple Wheel by launching an enemy with Wicked Wheel before landing an aerial strike three times earns a 12-second time bonus.
Etymology and allusion[]
Wicked Wheel is named after Garuda's ability of the same name from Final Fantasy XIV, another game made by the same development team within Square Enix, Creative Business Unit III.
