White Mage (白魔道士 or 白魔道師 Shiromadoushi lit. White Magic Adherent) is a special Job class in the Final Fantasy series, and is featured in several installments. It is among the first Job classes introduced in the series.
Profile
Their equipment includes staves and maces (as well as hammers in the original Final Fantasy), but in later installments they used magical rods instead. Their armor, like most mages, is limited to lightweight vests and mage robes. Their physical stats are usually higher than those of a Black Mage (because they cannot defend themselves), but are not as high as some other classes. Their magic stats, of course, are high.
The most prominent ability of a White Mage is to cast White Magic, which usually includes healing and support magic, but may also include status spells. In later installments, they were given the ability "Pray," in which the party's HP would be restored for no cost. The HP restored would be minimal. Their ability to heal, protect, and resurrect fallen members of the party make them typically invaluable, as they are usually the only efficient way of healing.
White Mages tend to dress in white robes with red triangular lining. They tend to lean towards lighter armor, generally robes, and their robes are trimmed with red triangles that usually flare out from cuffs, around hems, or on the lining of the players hood if they wear one. Also, the designers of Final Fantasy games have also chosen females as the primary practitioners of white magic. Male White Mages generally do not wear hoods; however, female ones do.
Sometimes white mages are also able to cast summoning magic. Examples of these are Garnet, Eiko, and Yuna. Rydia of Final Fantasy IV can also use White Magic in her child form.
Prominent White Mages include Aria of Final Fantasy III, Rosa Joanna Farrell and Porom of Final Fantasy IV, Princess Garnet and Eiko Carol of Final Fantasy IX, Yuna of Final Fantasy X, Penelo of Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings and Shirma of the Chocobo Series. Banon of Final Fantasy VI is also reminiscent of a White Mage, but he is officially classified as a "Priest". Aeris Gainsborough of Final Fantasy VII shares the typical healing abilities and staff/rod proficiencies of White Mages, but as with all Final Fantasy VII characters is not assigned an official job class. NPCs in Final Fantasy IV also dress in White Mage robes.

Although lacking in offensive power, White Mages are valuable due to their healing abilities. The upgraded 'White Wizard' is even more powerful.

The White Mage job is received by the Wind Crystal, while the Devout job is received by the Earth Crystal.
Final Fantasy IV: The After Years
White Mage is a character who, along with Black Mage, accompanies Ceodore and the Hooded Man as they pass through the Devil's Road.
Final Fantasy V
The White Mage job is held by one of the shards of the Wind Crystal.
Final Fantasy X-2
The White Mage Dressphere is the same as the classic White Mages of the series, with small attack power, but large healing power.

The Aries License Grid holds licenses for the White Mage job.
Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings
Penelo is a mix between a Dancer and a White Mage.She can cast spells like Curaga, Esunaga, Raise, and Holy. If you equip the Raqs Sharqi weapon it allows her to use Revitalize like Ultima (an ability that let's her or Ultima heal for a small amount of HP to one ally and remove debuffs) everytime she heals anyone in the party

The White Mage appears as a secret character in the Mario sports game, Mario Hoops 3-on-3. This is mainly because Square-Enix developed the game. White Mage's special shot is Holy Shot.
