Wendigo is a giant/headless-type enemy in Final Fantasy XII found in the Sochen Cave Palace. The Gokuu Pole can be rarely stolen from them.

It is also fought in the Zodiac versions Trial Mode on Stage 28, along with three Strikers.

In ancient times, certain tribes would sever the heads of the fallen, and commit the body to a watery burial. By eating the heads of lost family, it was believed that one could bind their souls as protective spirits. Such practices have long been abandoned, but its legacy may be seen in the sodden corpses since risen to gouge the earth in search of buried kin.

Etymology[edit | edit source]

The wendigo is a cannibalistic monster that appears in Algonquian folklore. It is said to embody gluttony, greed, and excess.
