Weiss is a charismatic, calm, but insane leader confident in his abilities. He manipulates anyone who can help him to reach his goals, caring little for his subordinates and taking delight in their deaths just as much as those of his enemies. This becomes evident to the player upon seeing his reaction to the Tsviets' deaths after they nearly sacrificed themselves to stop the [[Restrictors]]. He also has an arrogant side, thinking himself as better and stronger than the others people. It is shown when he battles Rosso and Azul at the same time, where he mocked them in defeating them easily.

Weiss is brash and reckless, killing the Restrictor even knowing that he would most likely die from the virus as a result.

Despite his sadistic nature and caring very little for his subordinates, Weiss seems to have a soft spot for his younger brother, Nero. This latter describes him as "the only person who ever loved him". Indeed, while Weiss's point of view about their relationship isn't really shown, while he appears cold and emotionless toward the others Tsviets, he showed some love and affection to his brother, especially during the scene where Nero asks him to merge with him, which showed he genuinely cared for him.

Weiss hates humans as much as the others Tsviets, especially scientists. While many of his horrible traits could be due to Hojo's control to him, he doesn't actually mind to kill anyone who could stand on his way, and doesn't care if what he wants can lead to the deaths of millions of people.

Weiss DoC2

The time has come to cleanse this planet. The pure will be "spared" for the cause, while the tainted will be hunted down and exterminated. They shall be slashed, strangled, and slaughtered. Beaten, stabbed, and crushed. Garroted and impaled. Shot and executed without mercy. The time has come to cleanse this world.

Weiss

Weiss the Immaculate (純白の帝王ヴァイス, Junpaku no Teiō Vaisu?, lit. Weiss, the Pure White Emperor) is a member of the Tsviets and the primary antagonist of Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII-. He is voiced by Dave Boat in the English version and Jouji Nakata in the Japanese version. His name comes from the German word Weiß, meaning white.

A mysterious SOLDIER who commands Deepground, Weiss declared a hunt on the world three years after the Meteor crisis. He received the title of emperor, as he is the strongest Tsviet, as well as the first member. Deepground soldiers fear his power and follow him; however, it is said they rarely see him directly. He has a deep bond with his younger brother, Nero the Sable.

Weiss wields a pair of lever-action sword revolvers forged by Argento. Though only officially referred to as "Weiss's weapons", they are identified by the emblems on their hilts: Heaven (, Ame?) on the one carried in his right hand, and Earth (, Tsuchi?) on the one carried in his left.

Sometimes referred to as gunblades by fans, Weiss's weapons are more accurately compared to various real world pistol swords that attempted to combine firearms with edged weapons. In the Final Fantasy VII 10th Anniversary Ultimania, the weapons are described as, "a set [of weapons] that combine a revolver-type gun and a katana, with the reload action pictured in the concept art".

When fighting against Omega Weiss, he uses different swords, a pair of long katanas similar in design to Sephiroth's Masamune.

Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-

Weiss with his gunblades.

But, will he accept his fate willingly?

Weiss

Weiss and Nero appear soon after Zack Fair defeats Genesis Rhapsodos. They are wearing SOLDIER First Class uniforms with the Deepground SOLDIER crest. Weiss and Nero take Genesis's body away in a helicopter. Though previously unacquainted with Genesis, Weiss and Nero were aware that they, along with the other colored Tsviets, were spliced with his genes.

In the Crisis Core Ultimania it is revealed Genesis was alive when he was recovered by Weiss and Nero, and there was an attempt to persuade him to join the rebellion against the Restrictors. Genesis rejects the offer to regain his SOLDIER honor, and seals himself in a cavern below Midgar.

Weiss

During the events of the online multiplayer mode on Dirge of Cerberus, Weiss is restrained by chains attached to his throne inside Mako Reactor 0. He tells the Restrictor he would like to try out his new swords. After the Restrictor breaks the chains, Weiss takes hold of his swords and tells him he wanted to fight him handicapped as he is confident he is the more powerful one.

The Restrictor calls forth Azul the Cerulean and Rosso the Crimson and tells Weiss that if he wants to fight handicapped, he can; against Azul and Rosso. Weiss beats them both easily, but Azul transforms into Arch Azul and Rosso into Bloodburst Rosso. Still, Weiss proves to be more than a match for the two Tsviets. Unable to attack the Restrictor, Weiss orders the player to shoot him.

The Restrictor is defeated by the player but forces his gunblade into the player's stomach and watches as they drop to the floor. Weiss takes the opportunity to attack and executes the Restrictor knowing that along with the Restrictor's death comes the release of a virus within his body, a defense mechanism designed to deter Weiss from attacking the Restrictors. As the dying Restrictor explains this to Weiss, Weiss retorts that it was he who said that death is always with you as long as you are a part of Deepground, and Weiss and the Tsviets laugh at the Restrictor's demise.

At the time of the Kalm revival festival, the Worldwide Network that was broken since the Meteor disaster had been restored. The fragments of Professor Hojo's digitized mind that were previously spread were about to reform. Hojo invades Weiss's body while he was performing a Synaptic Net Dive to find the cure to the time-released virus the Restrictors infected him with. The virus was meant to control him and ultimately kill him within three days if the Restrictors' signal disappeared.

Hojo, through Weiss, had Deepground abduct those not under the effects of Geostigma to serve as incubators of pure Mako. Hojo would need purity to enable Weiss to summon and absorb Omega. This grants Weiss superhuman strength, speed and endurance and he is easily able to overcome his adversary, Vincent Valentine. Vincent turns the tables by embracing Chaos's power, leading to Weiss's initial defeat.

Once Weiss is defeated, Nero, who had been watching, attempts to merge with his brother. Hojo orders Nero to stop, knowing he would not be able to control Omega with an impure being inside him. Neither Weiss nor Nero care, and Hojo is finally destroyed as Nero joins with Weiss. Weiss invokes Omega's power by a sense of compulsion and vanishes in a ball of light. Weiss is later, supposedly, defeated by Vincent in Chaos's form, but Weiss's body is carried off by an awakened Genesis, who tells his "brother" that they "still have much work to do".

Spoilers end here.

Battle

Weiss is fought as a boss twice at the end of Chapter 11. At first he cannot be killed, as it is extremely difficult to hit him and any hits do not affect his health, so the player must lose. He is fought again in a regular battle once Vincent has been augmented by Chaos. Weiss then comes back fused with the Omega as the game's final boss, Omega Weiss.

Etymology

Weiss (spelled weiß) is the German word for "white", which shows the relationship between him and his brother Nero (which is Italian for "black"). His subtitle, Immaculate, refers to pure whiteness and is derived from the Roman Catholic belief of the Immaculate Conception, which is where the Virgin Mary was born without the stain of Original Sin, similar to how Weiss was created to be untainted from the Lifestream.

Trivia

  • Although his official date of birth is unknown, taking into account the dates of the Jenova Project and his younger brother Nero's age, Weiss is probably around 24 years old.
  • Weiss is named after the German word for "White". His brother Nero's name means "Black" in Latin, so their names mean "Black and White".
