A creature that once stalked the plains outside Midgar but has since ventured into the city in search of prey. It has proliferated within the metropolis's walls and has become extremely ferocious.
Enemy Intel
Wayward Wolf is an enemy in Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, in the "Episode INTERmission" DLC. They appear to be based on the wolves fought on the Midgar Area in the original game. Yuffie first encounters a pair of them in the outskirts of Sector 7 Slums in "Don't Fear, Yuffie's Here" of "Wutai's Finest" chapter. More wayward wolves can be found later through the outskirts and Scrap Boulevard should the player backtrack, as well in the Main Pillar Maintenance Facility during "Save Zhijie".
Stats[]
Being a DLC-exclusive enemy, the stats are not listed in the official guide book, and thus are unknown.
Battle[]
The wolves are aggressive and powerful beasts that can be difficulty to deal with. Unlike other canine enemies, such as the guard dogs, the wolves are more resilient and organized, and can also dodge ranged attacks such as Yuffie's Throw. They are always fought in pairs. Using Throat Clamp in melee range, they can pin Yuffie down and deal heavy damage, unless the attack is dodged. Their Headbutt is a charge attack that tracks the player, dealing heavy damage and knocking them up in the air unless blocked.
The wayward wolves will often react to the player's own actions when engaging; if the player is defensive, they'll remain defensive, often circling their target and using tackle attacks; if the player is offensive, they'll respond in the same manner, employing Throat Clamp and Headbutt to intercept the player's attacks.
Much like the vast majority of biological creatures, the wolves are weak to Ice.
Strategy[]
Yuffie should focus on building up ATB to use Ice Ninjutsu to exploit the wolves' weakness, to build their stagger gauge faster, and use Throw into Windstorm to deal heavy damage and briefly flinch them.
Headbutt is difficult to dodge without Brumal Form, which Yuffie will not have access in their first encounter. It is best blocked or nullified with Yuffie's Precision Guard. If the wayward wolf readies Throat Clamp, the player should wait until they're about to leap and dodge to the sides.
Hard mode[]
On the hard difficulty, the wolves will be far more aggressive, even when Yuffie is playing defensively. They'll often sync their attacks in succession to stun-lock the player. They'll also dodge her Throw more often.
Although they can be more challenging, Yuffie will have her full arsenal at her disposal. First Strike Materia is useful to give her a better start, where she can use Ice Ninjutsu or even Blizzaga to exploit their weakness (although this is not really recommended since conserving MP is important). Brumal Form works well to avoid all their attacks.
