Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow. (Skip section)

"Wayward Daughter" plays during the final phase of the battle against Tsukuyomi, in Castrum Fluminis. It begins playing when she casts Nightbloom for the second time, timed so that the piano alone carries the melody as she is casting, other instruments come in as the animation resolves, and the lyrics begin as combat resumes.

The Japanese lyrics are sung by a woman, and recount the suffering of Yotsuyu goe Brutus, who had summoned Tsukuyomi into her body. The male, English chorus is sung by Yotsuyu's tormentors[1], the second line in particular representing her parents. The lyrics reveal the misery Yotsuyu has felt and cannot reveal as herself or as Tsukuyomi, only as her "Tsuyu" persona. In the end, Yotsuyu chooses to rebel, as she does after the battle, killing Asahi sas Brutus.

Throughout Stormblood, petals, moon, and the night are used to symbolize Yotsuyu, and later Tsukuyomi; in particular, the patch which contained Castrum Fluminis is entitled Under the Moonlight. Crimson is a synecdoche for Stormblood as a whole, and the bloodshed in the revolutions of Doma and Ala Mhigo in particular.

Spoilers end here.

Flower waiting to be plucked
Each petal a promise torn
Shorn one by one and cast to the winds, I gave unto them my all...all...
No...No more!
Westward lies bleed t'ward the east
Wayward daughter, step into the night
Restless eyes, blind to the beast
Barren waters yield unto the tide
Sanctuary of the moon
Tainted by the crimson light
Naught save the night shall know our sorrow, we give unto it our all...all...
No...No more!
Westward lies bleed t'ward the east
Wayward daughter, step into the night
Restless eyes, blind to the beast
Barren waters yield unto the tide
