==Etymology and origin==

The ability may be a reference to the 1975 anime ''Space Battleship Yamato'', which prominently featured a weapon of the same name, {{J|波動砲 or はどうほう|Hadōhō}} in Japanese, translated there as "Wave Motion Gun". Yamato's Wave Motion Gun relied on a wave of tachyons or 'charged particles', resulting in the various different translations of the same term.
