Warp-strike (シフトブレイク, Shifuto Bureiku?, lit. Shift Break), also known as Warp Break and Shift Break, is a recurring ability in the Final Fantasy series, originating in Final Fantasy XV. It is used by Noctis Lucis Caelum.
Appearances[]
Final Fantasy XIV[]
Warp-strike is a duty action available in Messenger of the Winds during the "A Nocturne for Heroes" event. It warps the player character towards the target, dealing damage on impact that increases the further away the action was used. Warp-strike from a distance deals greater damage than any actions available to the player during the battle, and the mobility it provides is almost essential for frailer characters to avoid Garuda's strongest attacks.
Noctis will also use his own Warp-strike during all battles in the event. If the player and Noctis use Warp-trike at the same time, it will trigger a Link-strike for massive damage.
Final Fantasy XV[]
Noctis can perform a warp-strike by warping while locked on to an enemy. The farther away his target is, the greater the damage he deals. Once the damage multiplier exceeds 3.0, warp-striking is almost guaranteed to place any non-boss enemy into a brief vulnerable status (Noctis flashes brighter on impact when this happens), but not all battlefields have enough space for this. Warp-striking enemy appendages from afar can be a good way to break them off.
Felling enemies with warp-strikes grants AP. Some battles that offer extra AP require Noctis to perform a warp-strike that deals double damage. Noctis cannot warp-strike with machinery weapons, elemancy, the Ring of the Lucii, or the Cerberus sniper rifle. If the player switches characters in combat, a confused AI-controlled Noctis can be seen warp-striking aimlessly into the sky.
