Creates [Barrier/MBarrier] simultaneously

Description

Wall is an indirect magic spell in Final Fantasy VII. It is granted by the Barrier Materia at level four, and applies both the Barrier and MBarrier status effects to one target, which halve physical and magical damage/healing taken, respectively.

Use[]

Wall can be used by characters with the Barrier Materia at level 4. It applies both the Barrier and MBarrier status effects to one target, halving physical and magical damage/healing. The spell effectively supersedes both the Barrier and MBarrier spells, though it has a higher MP cost than both combined at 58. The spell can be applied to all allies when linking the Barrier Materia with the All Materia.

Wall's main drawback is that it is rendered entirely redundant by Big Guard from the Enemy Skill Materia. Big Guard applies both status effects, along with Haste, to all allies with no requirement to be linked to the All Materia for almost the same MP cost. Big Guard is also arguably easier to obtain than Wall, which has a large AP requirement. This means that Wall is unnecessary if the player can use Big Guard.

Safer∙Sephiroth is the only enemy to use the spell against the party.

There is a cosmetic glitch that occurs if Cloud casts Wall on himself while under the Reflect status. The spell is reflected onto the enemy party as normal, but Cloud's casting animation is cut short and he doesn't jump back to his default position, thus moving slightly forward every time the process repeats. Barrier and MBarrier also work, though Wall appears to make him jump slightly further than the other two spells. If he is attacked (without getting knocked out or the attack missing), or attacks the enemy, he returns to his original position. He will remain wherever he is should he be revived.

The battlefields have no boundaries, so he can keep casting Wall before eventually teleporting to the opposite side behind the party, and begin inching forward toward the party from behind them. The process is made easier by being in a battle with one enemy alive and under the Manipulate status to block any interference, using a Reflect Ring (as reapplying the status resets his position), using HP↔MP Materia to have plenty of MP for continuous casting (though using Megalixirs works fine), and W-Magic Materia to cast Wall twice per turn to move even further. This glitch works in every version.
