Mission 26: So Shrill, the Cry[]

  • Menhirrim Mission

Heads up: the Penanggalan (such a bitch to spell, ugh) is immune to almost all debuffs, so a Paradigm with a Saboteur is pointless, for this fight anyway. You only need three Paradigms to take this on: your default, Delta Attack (COM RAV SEN), Combat Clinic (MED MED SEN) and Aggression (COM RAV COM).

Cie'th Stone Mission: Penanggalan
No. 26 - So Shrill, the Cry
Penanggalan
Class: B
Initial Reward: Diamond Bangle
Repeat Reward: Bomb Core x6

Level: 8 (Penanggalan), 7 (Chonchon)
HP: 252,252 (Penanggalan), 16,979 (Chonchon)
Difficulty: Easy

Stay in Delta Attack for crowd control with the Chonchons. Since you control the Commando, just spam Ruinga - Ruin - Ruin for like, two turns, and you should be all clear. Switch quickly to Combat Clinic to clean up, then target Penanggalan with Aggression.

Mission 27: Mithridates, the Lone[]

  • Cie'th Stone Location: The Apex, Taejin's Tower
  • Mark Location: Ground Tier, Taejin's Tower

In order to lure Mithridates out, we have to solve a little puzzle to rig the tower's Central Elevator to run from the Apex all the way down to the Ground Tier. For the sake of clarity, I'm going to split these instructions into steps:

  • Examine the Menhirrim statue on the Apex/Cloven Spire for a new elevator to appear. Ride this to the Seventh Tier.
  • You'll arrive in a tiny room full of Yak birds. Delta Attack (Com - Rav - Sen) → Relentless Assault.
  • Examine the Menhirrim statue here to realign the walls. Ah, see that Holy Light of Jesus? The Central Elevator can now reach all tiers.
  • Head out to the central walkway, and grab the treasure chest with the Collector's Catalog. I want to add -ue on that so bad. Anyway, the Collector's Catalog(ue) is a great item to have (especially later when we're farming), and would otherwise cost you 100,000 gil to purchase. Stick that in your overpriced pipe and smoke it, Moogleworks.
  • Ride the elevator - Chamber or Central - up to the Apex.

Okay, major battle team shake up here. Put your team as Snow (Leader), Hope and Sazh. Set your default to Prudent Planning (SEN SYN SYN). You'll also need Protection (SEN MED SYN), Diversity (COM MED RAV) - or (RAV MED COM), whatever - Tri-Disaster (RAV RAV RAV) and the old reliable Relentless Assault.

Now ride the Central Elevator from the Apex all the way down to the Ground Tier.

Cie'th Stone Mission: Mirthirdates
No. 27 - Mithridates, the Lone
Mithridates
Class: B
Initial Reward: Blaze Ring
Repeat Reward: Bomb Core x6

Level: 6
HP: 1,587,600
Difficulty: Easy

Since we open with Prudent Planning, Snow acts as a meat shield whilst Hope and Sazh go about buffing up the team. Let Sazh do his thing in the Synergist role for a bit longer and switch to Protection to have Hope clean up any HP damage before you're ready to start your offence. Use Relentless Assault to start off a Stagger gauge, then switch to Tri-Disaster to really speed things along. Clean up any other damage Mithirdates dishes out with Diversity so you can keep up your offence, or if HP starts to slip into the lower-oranges, use Protection again to get back in shape.

Mission 28: Faded Glory[]

  • Cie'th Stone Location: Village Proper, Oerba
  • Mark Location: Village Proper, Oerba
  • Waystone

The strategy provided in the storyline walkthrough is just to get it out of the way so you can use the waystone, regardless of the rating. For five stars, you need to swap out Fang for Vanille, and set your default to Recuperation (MED MED SAB). You'll also need Thaumaturgy (RAV MED RAV) and Tri-Disaster (RAV RAV RAV).

Cie'th Stone Mission: Ceratosaur
No. 28 - Faded Glory
FFXIII Ceratosaur
Class: C
Initial Reward: Giant's Glove
Repeat Reward: Bomb Shell x5

Level: 4
HP: 35,100 (x10)
Difficulty: Hard

I'll be real: I marked it as hard because I suck at any battle that involve these frog things. I don't even know why. You'll probably find this okay. Start in Recuperation; there are ten Ceratosaurs bouncing around, so you need to keep everyone's HP looking grassy green as your Synergist focuses on the all important buffs, primarily Faith. Once that's done, switch out to Thaumaturgy for a reserved offence; the Ceratosaurs are weak to Fire and Earth so go for Firaga and Quake. When their numbers are down to a manageable amount, switch to Tri-Disaster to clean up the stragglers.

Mission 29: Faltering Faith[]

  • Cie'th Stone Location: Maw of the Abyss, Mah'habara Subterra
  • Mark Location: The Palisades, Taejin's Tower

This is kinda weird because you need to actually defeat a Juggernaut in order to unlock this mission, soooooo... chances are you either already know what you're doing or this strategy will serve for both bouts. Anyway, a lot of people advocate having a Synergist dole out Barfire, but for the sake of speed and efficiency, if your party is strong enough, you shouldn't need a Synergist at all. Maybe dole out some fire resistant accessories to dull the edge, but you should be able to take out the Juggernaut without having to deal with its worst fire attacks. With that in mind, you need a Saboteur as your Party Leader, and your other two should be Commandos (one also a strong Ravager).

Set your default to Ruthless (SAB COM RAV), and add in Aggression (RAV COM COM) and, of course, Relentless Assault. I don't think you'll need it, but if you are a bit weaker, try a healing paradigm with a Synergist like Protection (SYN SEN MED).

Cie'th Stone Mission: Faltering Faith
No. 29 - Juggernaut
FFXIII enemy Juggernaut
Class: B
Initial Reward: Uraninite
Repeat Reward: Mobius Coil x3

Level: 3
HP: 1,584,000
Difficulty: Medium

Since the Juggernaut has close to 1.6 million HP (!), we need to get a pre-emptive strike in order to speed things along and get five of those stars. It's quite easy to get the pre-emptive, just force it to chase you, then wait for it to give up and stomp away in the other direction. When its back is turned, run up and strike.

Whilst your party push it to the Stagger, quickly afflict a round of debuffs, with Deprotect being your priority. Yeah, it can just wipe them away later with Steamclean, but it also can't attack you when it's using that move, so you can plug away with the offence without worrying about retaliation. After landing your debuffs, switch out to Aggression and plug away at it. If he's still standing after the stagger gauge depletes, switch to Relentless Assault and work at refilling it as it bumbles away with Steamclean. Then rinse and repeat.

Mission 30: Syphax, the Insidious[]

  • Cie'th Stone Location: Haerii Oldroad, Archylte Steppe
  • Mark Location: Abandoned Dig, Mah'habara Subterra
  • Paling

The Abandoned Dig is a secret area of the Mah'habara is accessible only by riding the fal'Cie Atomos back to the Mah'habara from the entrance of the Sulyya Springs. Obviously there is more than just some aggro bats to fight here, so check out this page of the walkthrough for full coverage of this area.

This one's pretty straight forward: set your default to Relentless Assault, and set up Aggression (RAV COM COM). You shouldn't need it, but if you're at weaker levels, also throw in Bully (SYN SAB COM).

Cie'th Stone Mission: Syphax, the Insidious
No. 30 - Syphax
Syphax
Class: B
Initial Reward: Uraninite
Repeat Reward: Bomb Core x6

Level: 60 (Syphax), 51 (Numidias)
HP: 2,024,000 (Syphax), 17,600 (Numidias)
Difficulty: Easy

We have to face a bunch of Numidias first, so send out a couple of rounds of Aeroga and Blitz. When Syphax decides to show its face, push up its chain gauge, then switch to Aggression when it staggers. If you're having a bit of trouble, use Bully to buff and debuff whilst keeping up your offence.

Mission 31: Newfound Purpose[]

  • Cie'th Stone Location: Haerii Archaeopolis, Archylte Steppe
  • Mark Location: Haerii Archaeopolis, Archylte Steppe
  • Waystone
Cie'th Stone Mission: Newfound Purpose
No. 31 - Pulsework Champion
FFXIII enemy Pulsework Champion
Class: B
Initial Reward: Perfect Conductor x3
Repeat Reward: Crystal Oscillator x2

Level: 10 (Pulsework Champion), 2 (Seekers)
HP: 187,500 (Pulsework Champion), 34,175 (Numidias)
Difficulty: Easy

Spritz a can of Deceptisol, head in there with Cerberus (an all-COM team) and slice things up like you're making salad to go.

Mission 32: And Then There Was One[]

  • Cie'th Stone Location: Earthen Bosom, Vallis Media
  • Mark Location: Western Benchland, Archylte Steppe
Cie'th Stone Mission: And Then There Was One
No. 32 - Amam
FFXIII enemy Amam
Class: B
Initial Reward: Glass Buckle
Repeat Reward: Bomb Shell x5

Level: 12
HP: 446,250
Difficulty: Easy

Another nice and easy one: you only need Aggression (two COM, one RAV) for this one. The Amam will probably hit you with a Fog/Pain as a nice welcome to the fight, but it's not debilitating enough for you to stop your assault; just let it wear off over time, and keep plugging away.

Mission 33: A Parent's Pledge[]

  • Cie'th Stone Location: Haerii Archaeopolis, Archylte Steppe
  • Mark Location: Eastern Tors, Archylte Steppe

There are two methods here, one for a lower level party, and one for a higher level. I don't need to say like lower level is from x - y and higher is from z - (didn't think this one through) whatever, you'll know whether you're a lower level party or a higher level one. Or you'll find out as soon as you step foot in this battle, comprenez-vous?

Lower Level: Your party leader needs to be a Saboteur with the ability Daze. Your other team members should be proficient ice-based Ravagers and Medics. You will need Smart Bomb (SAB RAV RAV) and Perseverance (RAV MED MED).

Higher Level: Let's go with Evened Odds (SYN SAB MED) and Aggression (RAV COM COM).

Cie'th Stone Mission: A Parent's Pledge
No. 33 - Adamanchelid
FFXIII enemy Adamanchelid
Class: B
Initial Reward: White Cape
Repeat Reward: Bomb Shell x5

Level: 12
HP: 446,250
Difficulty: Depends

Lower Levels: Your party leader should be spamming Daze like there is no tomorrow. Just queue it up forever and ever, amen. This means the Adamanchelid shouldn't even get a hit in. Meanwhile, your two Ravagers should be exploiting the Adamanchelid's Blizzaga weakness. Switch to Perseverance to heal up whilst still plugging Daze. Daze, daze, daze.

Higher Levels: Fuck Daze! Open in Evened Odds and have your Synergist bestow Haste, Bravery and Faith, whilst your Saboteur goes for (most importantly) Imperil and (not so importantly) Slow. Then switch to Aggression to put an end to things.

Mission 34: Zenobia, the Butcher[]

  • Cie'th Stone Location: Way of the Ancients, Archylte Steppe
  • Mark Location: Haerii Archaeopolis, Mah'habara Subterra
  • Paling

100% keep writing that as Zenobia, the Bitcher. The whining tonberry.

This guy debuffs pretty quick, so a Synergist is moot. Instead, plump for a default of Ruthless (SAB RAV COM) and either Aggression (RAV COM COM) or Relentless Assault. You may also need Diversity (RAV COM MED) to heal up.

Cie'th Stone Mission: Zenobia, the Butcher
No. 34 - Tonberry
FFXIII Tonberry
Class: B
Initial Reward: Hermes Sandals
Repeat Reward: Bomb Shell x7

Level: 49
HP: 742,500
Difficulty: Medium

Speed is like 50% of the essence. I (awkwardly) say that because whilst we want to avoid hanging around for Grudge to shank us, we also have a shedload of Target Battle Time to burn through, so getting those five stars should be a given... provided you survive the first condition.

With your Saboteur at the head, inflict Imperil, Deshell and Deprotect, before switching out to your offensive paradigm (Aggression or Relentless). I doubt you'll require it, but if you need to heal up, switch to Diversity to keep up your offensive.
