Page Fourteen- Lady bad luck. - FlamesofRebirth

Completely Random Introductory Quote-

The angels, all pallid and wan,
Uprising, unveiling, affirm
That the play is the tragedy, "Man,"
And its hero the Conqueror Worm.

Edgar Allan Poe, The Conqueror Worm

Chapter 9 Continued[]

The Palamecia- Starboard Weather Deck[]

"That we can do something about." - Lightning[]

We're still on board the Sanctum airship, the main team has made its way out onto the deck. Look behind you for a dead end with some treasure.

Battle- Vespid Soldier x 3

Battle- Vespid Soldier x 2, Viking
The Whistlewind Scarf can be very useful when combined with the right weapon. Use it alongside a Stagger-Lock weapon to get Random: Instant Chain. Now follow the mini-map in the only other direction available.

Battle- Vespid Soldier x 3

Battle- Vespid Soldier x 2

Palamecia airship

Battle- PSICOM Dragoon x 2, Viking
They are off to the right, the sphere beside the Viking holds a Perfect Conductor.

Battle- PSICOM Dragoon x 2, Viking
There is a save point here, as well as a ramp going down to the next area.

Battle- Deckdrone x 3, Vespid Soldier x 2
Take out the Vespids first to avoid Aeroga, it's more dangerous than Tornado Kick in this battle.

Battle- Deckdrone x 7
This group is off to the left, and there is absolutely no point to fighting them except to gain some CP. However, enter this battle with Solidarity and make Lightning use Blitz consecutively for an easy 1000 CP.

Battle- Deckdrone x 5, Vespid Soldier
You'll have to endure the Aeroga here so you can reduce the number of Drones around, minimizing Tornado Kick damage to acceptable levels. There is a save point after this battle, before you go down the ramp head off to the right.

Battle- PSICOM Dragoon x 2
Defeat them, then pick up 13 Barbed Tails at the dead end. Now go back to the save point and down the ramp to the next area.

Palamecia inside

I'm running out of pictures here, this damn chapter needs to end.

Battle- Deckdrone x 5
You should be able to preempt them to make things easier.

Battle- Deckdrone x 3, Viking
This group is off to your left, and you don't need to fight them. Do go around them and jump onto the mechanical arm. When it reaches the bottom, jump off and run around to find 300 Gil, then go back up to the next battle.

Battle- Vespid Soldier x 2, Viking
Again, you can easily avoid them if you want to, they're off to your right when you come back up from the treasure sphere.

Battle- PSICOM Dragoon x 3, Viking

Battle- PSICOM Dragoon x 4
The sphere in the corner behind them holds another Spark Ring, which will be useful in the upcoming boss battle.

Battle- PSICOM Dragoon x 2
Use up all your CP and equip some Spark Rings. Relentless Assault will be fine for your default paradigm.

Yet another two round bout. The first form will stagger and drop easily, after he's chained go to Aggression to finish him off. For round two, you may want to go with Evened Odds to get Barthunder and Slow up to help with Hellstorm Bolt, which can KO you if you aren't ready for it. Other than that, the old reliable stagger method is all it takes.

Luck, Be a Lady[]

You can now choose your own battle team from here on out, the option is in the paradigm menu. You can just stick with what you've got for now, the last section of this chapter is short. This next section consists of three parallel paths, all connected by mechanical stairways. To make sure we don't miss anything, I'm going to take us in a big circle around the area.

"Time to purge a primarch" - Snow[]

For a reference, I'm going to call the end we're starting at South, and the destination North. You can check your map by pressing the Square button to figure out where you are if the mini-map isn't cutting it. At the north end of the platform you're on, there is a switch to activate the staircase. Hit it and go down to the next one.

FFXIII enemy PSICOM Destroyer

Battle- PSICOM Infiltrator x 3, PSICOM Destroyer
Take out the Destroyer first whenever you see one, otherwise it will use Bazooka and you will die. When they're gone, use the panel on the left to go to a platform holding a Librascope. Activate the panel to the south and go up the stairs to find a Pain Dampener. Now go north past the previous platform and activate the next switch to continue.

Battle- PSICOM Dragoon x 3, PSICOM Destroyer
Keep going due north to reach the next platform. It holds a sphere with 3600 Gil. Again, go north.

Battle- PSICOM Infiltrator x 3, PSICOM Destroyer, Thermadon
Activate the northern switch again and reach the final platform, containing a Gold Bangle. Now go back to the previous one and go across to the middle row.

FFXIII enemy PSICOM Reaver

Battle- PSICOM Dragoon x 4, PSICOM Reaver
After beating them, go east again to reach the last row.

Battle- PSICOM Destroyer x 2, PSICOM Huntress
Go north from here and pick up the Perfect Conductor, then go south (away from the destination) until you hit the next battle.

Battle- PSICOM Dragoon x 2, PSICOM Raider x 2, PSICOM Reaver
Continue on to the next platform to find an Umbra, a weapon for Snow. Keep going south to reach...

Battle- Thermadon, PSICOM Destroyer
The last platform in this row has a sphere containing 2 Rune Bracelets, do not miss this one. Now head back toward the last platform that had a treasure sphere, and then take the middle row all the way north to the destination.

Battle- PSICOM Huntress x 2, PSICOM Reaver, PSICOM Destroyer

Battle- PSICOM Raider x 2, Thermadon

Battle- PSICOM Dragoon x 4, PSICOM Reaver
Yeah, you already fought this battle, but they respawned. Everything here does, so you can max out your Crystarium and pick up some cash if you want to (I wouldn't bother). This is the last fight before the boss. The next platform has a save point and an Ethersol. Make sure your CP are spent before you move on, you should almost have your entire Crystarium filled out.

"Humans have no business here" - Galenth Dysley[]

EmbedVideo is missing a required parameter.

Before you move forward from the save point, get set up for the upcoming battle. You should take a heavy hitter to help Lightning deal damage, and a mage for healing. You may want to use Hope for his Synergist abilities, if so, take Fang as your main Commando for her Saboteur skills. If you use Snow instead of Fang, you'll have access to Tri-Disaster, but you'll need to use Vanille as your healer and debuffer. You could also use Sazh as a Commando and Synergist, but he's really only useful when you can control him directly. You can even go with Hope and Vanille, it will just take longer to wear down those HP. Or you could do what I did, which is go for all out offense. I wanted to see how quickly I could take Bart down, so I used Sazh and Vanille, giving the ladies Tungsten Bangles and Rune Armlets while the old man took a Silver Bangle and a Royal Armlet.

"Been lookin' for you, Nabaat" - Sazh[]

How much does it suck that Barthandelus kills of Jihl before you get a chance too? I was really looking forward to this confrontation the first time I played this game, and it still seems like a big wasted opportunity for a memorable boss fight. What a rip-off.

Looking at that chart, he seems to be invincible, but that's only temporary. First you have to defeat the four magic casting parts on his sides, one for each element. Each has 50,400 HP; so it will take some time. Use a Librascope to get the info on all five parts at once, it will make life a little bit easier here. Start off with Evened Odds to prep for the attack, then get to work on the first side piece. You want Haste, Brave, and Faith on everyone before you switch. As you finish off the Ailettes and Pauldrons, the level of spells the remaining ones cast will increase, so don't let them stick around for long. Just use Relentless Assault/ Diversity to eliminate them one by one until Barthandelus is the only enemy left. At this point, he becomes vulnerable to Stagger, debuffs, and elemental attacks. Keep buffs and debuffs (Deshell, Deprotect) up at all times, and the only thing you really need to watch out for is Destrudo. When you see this, you have about 20 seconds to prepare, so use the time wisely. If you aren't fully healed, use Diversity to get there ASAP, then go the Relentless Assault or Tri-Disaster if it's available to run up the chain gauge. If you can get it halfway full, the attack damage will be reduced greatly. Other than that, just hammer away and he'll fall in two staggers. This was the first time I tried an offensive strategy instead of defensive for this battle, and it went so much faster. Don't hesitate to use a Renew if you need it, and you'll take down a five star rating easily.

A Focus Revealed[]

After the battle, your Crystarium will expand yet again, and Bart/ Dysley will give you some very interesting information. It would appear that your rebellion is all a part of his plan, what would a Final Fantasy game be if you didn't spend half of it unwittingly working for the enemy?

"Not so fast, L'Cie" - Yaag Rosch[]

That chapter was ridiculously long and labor intensive for me, hopefully the next page will be easier.
