Unquantulatable Quest - Day 2:
Hello Space Monkies! This is your Walkthrough Lord, BlueHighwind reported from my space ship deep in the farthest reaches of the heavens. Well, actually I've only gotten as far as Pluto, because I needed to hang out in our Solar System a bit. And let me tell you, this Solar System is BORING. Most of the planets are dead, and the one that isn't dead is filled with jerks. The most entertaining moment I had was kicking over that Mars robot. I was going to do a little swimming on Europa, but then I spotted that 2001 monolith floating nearby. I saw how that movie ended, I'm not screwing around with that thing. So now I'm heading off to Alpha Centauri, I'll be sure to get you Space Monkies a T-shirt.

Raithwall's Tomb (Continued)[]

Inside Raithwall's Tomb, things will start to get interesting. Run down to the bridge for a statue to come to life behind you. Say hello to the very first Optional Boss of the game:

Optional Boss Battle: Demon Wall
HP: 22187
Steal: Gold Needle, Quality Stone, Solid Stone
Difficulty: Hard

Strategy:

Demon Wall again, huh. Me and you have been fighting across this series for three games now, perhaps its time we end this! Oh shit, look at that HP! If you don't feel like a challenge, you can run away from the Demon Wall over the bridge to get deeper into the Tomb, but that's not going to be an option if you're traveling with me. First of all, winning you let you get a really awesome sword for this part of the game, and second of all I try never to avoid challenges (that incident with Ba'Gamnan in the Lhusu Mines notwithstanding). So we fight.

First of all, this battle is run on a time limit, as the Demon Wall will slowly advance towards you. Your attacks will not knock it back at all, just a warning. If it reaches the end of the bridge, its GAME OVER. However, the Demon Wall moves in real time, so speeding up the Battle Speed with increase your chances of winning. Don't think that's going to stop this battle from being hard though. The enemy still hits hard and uses "Blindga" to Blind your entire party and "Silence" to stop spells. The worst spell by far is "Telega", which instantly X-Zones a party member out of the battle. This is the only time in the entire game that anyone ever seems to use that status and it is annoying. You won't be getting them back until the fight is won or lost. So basically the only thing you can do reliably is to use Quickening Chains, hopefully really effective ones. If you can't pull off a Concurrence, then the battle is just finished, restart. Start off with only two characters, and have them start a Chain. Then bring in a third, have him or her do a Chain, then switch somebody out for your forth party member, the last one with fresh MP. Expect to lose a character or two by this point to "Telega". This is difficult because when your MP is low it becomes more difficult for Chains to continue. Vossler can just be Beserked if you have that spell. If you still need one more big attack, go deep into your inventory and throw around Ethers, that should allow for a victory.

For each Quickening, you'll want more than 6000 damage, that way by the end of the third one you can win with regular attacks. If you get over 8000, you're doing really good. Less than 4000 and you're doing bad.

This took me about three tries, but I still finished it. After winning, you'll definitely want to Save your game, because you don't want to have to do this again.

After that, continue on the bridge down to the door. And who is in the next room? Demon Wall, again! We can't run away from this one, because we have to get passed him. But this isn't the same enemy, this one is far weaker:

Boss Battle: Demon Wall
HP: 10332
Steal: Gold Needle, Quality Stone, Solid Stone
Difficulty: Easy

Strategy:

First of all, this boss moves slower and the bridge is much longer this time. So we don't really have to worry that much about being quick. However, keep that Battle Speed up. As you can tell, this Demon Wall has half the HP of its older brother, but its stats are just all-around lower and its less aggressive. The attacks are the same, just used less frequently. I only saw "Telega" once this time. The same strategy from last time will work, however, you can win with conventional means. If you start getting pushed backwards too deep, use a Quickening.

Now go back to the first room. If you defeated both Walls, a new path will form to the exits on the left and right side of the main one. It does not matter which one you take, the form a loop. In the next dark room, go downstairs to the center, where you'll see a Chest. Supposedly there is a low chance of this Chest holding a Demonsbane, but I got it in the first try. Save up before going down there, because if you don't get the sword, restart. You could go back and try for it again after Saving, because this is a really strong sword for this part of the game.

Before continuing on, a good idea would be to get the Rain of Tears Bazaar purchase. This is gotten by five Water Stones, three Green Liquids, and two Yensa Scales, all of which you should have by now. The purchase gives you a Vega gun and Aqua Shot for 2980 Gil. First of all, though Guns are slower than Bows, they ignore defense and so are much stronger. Don't be fooled by the low Attack stats, they are actually more stronger. They also never miss under any circumstances. Second of all, the next boss is a Fire type, so Water will help. Thirdly, you want at least one character in your party that uses ranged weapons. And one last tip, if you're cut low for cash, you can sell old equipment, but never sell any equipment that gives an elemental property. You'll find that even at the end you'll still want your old Aqua Shot for fire enemies.

Go on past the second Demon Wall's rooms to start up a scene where Vossler and Ashe will debate the merits of everything. Ashe will then comment that she can hear the Dawn Shard's "call". Another talking Stone? I bet I know exactly what its saying: "hey baby, why don't you shake that fine little butt down here! And where's my bro Dusk?" These stones are always such lechers.

At this point we'll fall into something a maze. There are three warps in front of you, but only the blue one works. That will take you back to the entrance, so don't use it. There are stairs to both the North and South. I say we're going South first. Oh wait, the Map Urn is around here, get that first. Then go to come to a fork where you can either take an upper or lower path. I say upper, because that takes less time. This is all really a loop The room is wildly twisting, but actually quite linear. There are enemies everywhere, including some really nasty burning heads. These guys will throw annoying magic, but they can't move because they're just giant heads on the floor. In room with a teleporter, press the green switch to make a block lower. Enemies will then pop out from all directions, you might want to run using the green teleporter. Welcome back to the main center.

Now let's take the North route. Again, there will be a fork (and it really does look like a fork!), take the upper path again. Follow the linear winding path again to find another warp in a room shaped exactly the same as the other one on the other side. Press the orange switch to lower the block all the way. That new route we just made leads to the boss at the end of the dungeon. You can take the orange warp back to the center and then return to the entrance to Save, or you can just move forward to the boss.

In here the Myst is very thick, a point that Penelo remembers for herself, because as she admits "Can't count on Vaan to remember these things". Of course, he's a fucking dumbass who I'd like to see sodomized by a clown. There are no enemies in this room, just a loop down to the bottom. Before moving on, check around for Chests, because some hold Elixirs. When you walk into the central zone, an enemy on a throne will awaken.

Boss Battle: Belias
HP: 15943
Steal: Aries Gem, Ether, High Arcana
Difficulty: Medium

Strategy:

"Open your miiiinnndddd..."

This is the very first Esper we've uncovered, and it turns out this first one is a Lucavi from FFT. In this game, Espers can either be one of three things: Lucavi from FFT, Final Bosses from other games, or just original creations. It would have been nice to have some consistency, but whatever. By the way, I love the Esper Battle Theme.

In case it hasn't hit you yet, this is the Esper of Fire, and uses Fire attacks. Naturally Belias is weak to Water, so that Aqua Shot I recommended earlier will come in handy. If you have the spell "Water", just sit on it. That Magic takes too long to load, and regular attacks work better. Belias is rather slow, unfortunately, and cannot combo his regular attacks. The best magic he can usually use is "Fire". "Saber" will boost Weigraf's attack power, but only slightly. The attack you really have to watch out for is "Firaja", the big cinematic blast of fire. That will hit everybody for tons of damage. However, "Cura" will do a good job of saving your party from destruction.

Upon winning, Belias will transform into a crystal which shatters giving us the Esper Belias, the Gigas. Of course he's totally useless, so you might as well have kept him down here defending his king's tomb.

Fran tells us a story about the Espers, about how they attempted to overthrow the Gods, only to be kicked into the Myst for all eternity. Raithwall, back in his youth, defeated Belias and made it his follower. It was still here, guarding the Dynast-King's tomb. Unfortunately, Ashe lied to us. This useless summon is the treasure buried here. By the way, try summoning Belias and you'll find how it is definitely NOT "a power whose worth is beyond any measure". The measure is that regular attacks do more damage for far less MP loss. Give me Gil, jewels, talking Stones, anything, but this!

Speaking of talking Stones, continue past Belias's throne to find the final room of the Tomb. In here, the Dawn Shard lies. Ashe will run up only to see a Jedi ghost of Prince She-Male. With her goal of revenge pressed forward, she grabs the last Stone close to her breath (I know he liked that). We now have to get out of this tomb using a series of teleporters. Ouside use the Save Crystal, but we can't teleport for some reason. By the way, the Dawn Shard is now an accessory, but like all Magic Stones, it sucks. When you step out from the stairs, the Imperial Navy pays us a visit:

Captured again! Dear me, we have the worst luck.

Light Cruiser Shiva[]

We are lead again to Ghis, who has taken to walking around without his helmet for some reason. He wants the Dawn Shard, because its "Deifacted Nethicite". Let me try to break that word up: "Deify" - "Manufactured", wow that's some thick fantasy language for you. Oh yeah, and Vossler is a traitor. He's tired of fighting a "profitless battle" because its pretty obvious that Archadia is a much better administrator of Dalmasca than the incompetent monarchs given their power not by the Mandate of the People but rather a silly chance of birth. All we need do is given up the Stone and Dalmasca will be returned to Princess Ashe, oh wait, now Queen Ashe. DO IT! DO IT! And if just to make the bargain more pressing, Judge Ghis threatens to cut Balthier's head straight off if she doesn't agree. I note that he doesn't flinch at all and still manages to make wise cracks even while his neck is centimeters away from being tore in two.

So Ashe gives up the Stone, and we're lead to the Shiva while Ghis goes off to test the Dawn Shard's authenticity in the Leviathan's microwave. Vossler is already making plans to negotiate with Larsa, maybe get a little few of those strings taken off the future puppet kingdom. However, Ashe will have none of it. Meanwhile, while Ghis tests the Stone, his microwave goes crazy and Myst flies all over the Fleet. This makes Fran go feral and attack her guards. Oh dear Vossler, I advise you step back, last thing you want to deal with is a crazed Bunny Woman in heat. In a manner of seconds, everybody has broken through their cuffs. But Vossler is in no mood for letting us escape (he's left the party by the way) and will now stand against us as the next boss. He mentions that the "this struggle is futile, you must know where it leads!", causing Basch to respond "I do know, all too well". Well, where does it lead?? I still don't know!

Boss Battle: Vossler
HP: Vossler - 9318 | Imperial Swordsman - 845 (X3)
Steal: Potion, Hi-Potion, Black Belt
Difficulty: Easy

Strategy:

Too bad, Vossler is about to die and he never got around to trimming his hair.

Start the battle off by putting "Protect" on Basch, specifically. Vossler really hates Basch and will target him until he's down. For that reason, Basch is a natural meat shield, and the longer he survives the longer the rest of your party can focus on killing off anything that targets them. Fran works well in this battle because she's in heat and thus has Auto-Berserk up. Her attacks are especially lethal in this fight. The Swordsmen are really not much of a threat, but if you really want them gone, get rid of them. Vossler acts like a Judge boss, he can use some crazy combos against your characters. He also uses "Reflect" on himself all the time, so offensive spells are just out. Towards the end of the battle, Vossler will use "Enrage" on himself and his attacks will get really powerful. This is when you put him down with a Quickening.

Really, this isn't that tough.

And so Vossler dies, but not quietly. He sputters out something about "protect the Princess" before dropping in the end. Unfortunately, he is not our biggest concern at the moment. Judge Ghis's microwave is really going crazy. In fact, the entire Fleet is destroyed in a massive explosion of Myst. This is one of the cooler cutscenes:

Shiva! Ifrit! Leviathan! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! All destroyed, along with Judge Ghis. At least we grab the Stone, that thing was a really naughty little rock today, wasn't it?

Marquis Narrator returns, telling of how the destruction of that Fleet affected the world. The Empire was thrown into disarray, while he quits Bhujerba to gather up a Resistance force. No matter what anybody says, I still do not trust this Marquis. Maybe he'll turn out to be a Lucavi in the end? Probably not.
