Hamfruitcake: My neighbor Totoro, Totoro, Totoro, Totoro, who has lived in the forest, since ancient times.

Welcome to My Monster Arena Page

So the Monster Arena can be found on the eastern side of the Calm Lands. It is a delightful place with a dragon's head poking out of the wall. Here the Owner will charge you with the task of catching and collecting fiends from across Spira. A much more monumental task then he'd have you believe. To do so you must buy Weaponry from him with the Capture ability attached. It's not worth buying the girls these weapons as only strong physical blows will suffice in capturing the fiends at hand. Have your best fighters equipped and ensure at least one of them has the Piercing ability attached to their Capture weaponry.

Then it is a case of running out into the world (with the help of our handy dandy airship) and farming the fiends. At the end of the day you will need 10 of each to complete the task entirely and win all the prizes and the chance to contend with the mighty Nemesis but it is of course up to you how long you take to complete this task. It's not really a job you should to try to do in one night only. It should be spread out over days and weeks otherwise you most certainly will lose your mind.

To start with you should already have captured at least one of every fiend from the Calm Lands, Mt Gagazet and the Sunken Cave if you have been following my walkthrough. Here I will cover the rest of the Area Conquests for you to fulfill. To gain the prizes and Special Monsters you will need to catch at least one of each of the fiends. To complete the Species Conquest you will need to fulfill stipulations further down the page and more than just 1 of each type of monster.

Take Note

Hey look at that it all fits. Some things to note would be that you must watch out for Dark Aeons on your travels:

  • Dark Ixion will be waiting in the northern area of the Thunder Plains which is also where you need to go to find Iron Giants so tread carefully. Dark Ixion's Summoner can be easily avoided just steer very clear of the Bevelle Guard you'll see next to a lightning tower. Very clear!
  • Dark Yojimbo dwells by the Save Sphere in the depths of the Sunken Cave so avoid that.
  • The Dark Magus Sisters can be found roaming around the Mushroom Rock Road it's best to enter from the Djose High Road to avoid them. You can also get Auron's Masamune here with the Iron Sword, more info on this on the Celestial Weapons Page.
  • Don't try to enter the Besaid Village just yet as Dark Valefor will be lying in wait.

Other things to note would be that the fiends like mingle in other areas and some will be particularly difficult to find:

  • You will have to travel along the Old and New road to fulfill your search for all types of fiends on the Mi'ihen Highroad group. Any Thunder Flans captured will be added to your Mushroom Rock Road count. Bombs and Dual Horns are more abundant on the Old Road.
  • For the Djose Road you will also need to concentrate your search in the Moonflow as this is the only place you will find Ochus. It's also worth noting it too me forever to find those damned Simurghs, searching around the fork of the Djose road will be the best spot to look for them, ensure you run around the sunny bits at the fork and they'll turn up. If you're having no luck it's best to reset your game to reinitiate the encounter percentages. Simurghs will cause you the most trouble when hunting so you've been warned.
  • Pray to the Quactar Stones with the Square-button button in the Thunder Plains to give you a better chance of catching them. Also hope you have a high enough accuracy to hit the buggers.
  • Macalania is a tale of two parts, half of the fiends will be found in the woods, the other half around the Travel Agency toward the Temple. Obvious but still worth noting.
  • The more formidable fiends can be found in the north west of the Sanubia Desert on Bikanel. Also you'll find it much easier to encounter the Cactuars once you unlock the valley of their namesake in this Cactuar Sidequest covered on the Extras Page.
  • Inside Sin Geminis will attack in pairs and you will have to capture 10 of each of these. Also a lucky thing to take note of is that Behemoth Kings will not unleash their powerful Meteor upon death if you Capture them. Very nice!
  • You'll find a mixture of fiends Inside Sin and Omega Ruins and can capture fiends from both areas in... Both areas. Ugh I'm so tired this isn't making sense anymore.
  • As an added tip, if you find yourself in a battle with a particularly rare fiend, such as Simurgh or Master Tonberry, there is a technique I find helpful. After the battle ends note where you stepped to start the random encounter, then run around in that same area to encourage the same one. It's not a pretty technique, but it's one that's garnered me two or three more of the same fiends in a row after waiting a heck of a long time for just one to appear. However the best tip of all is patience.
