There's no time for intros, we've got a game to finish!

Prepare for Battle[edit source]

It's finally time to enter Kefka's Tower and confront the God of Magic himself. Here's what happens. You split into 3 parties, and those 3 must fight their way through the tower, opening paths for each other. Now, obviously, Umaro and Cyan stay. Everyone else goes, but how do you organize them?

Terra, Celes and Relm are all mages, and thus separate them to ensure every party has an awesome mage. Strago must be in Group 3 so we can get a complete Lore list, and Locke should also be in Group 3 because there’s something valuable to Steal along the third Group’s path. Either Mog or Edgar should also be in Group 3, because we need a Dragoon there. Celes should also be in Group 3 because there’s a boss that is vulnerable to Runic.

Shadow and/or Relm need to be in Group 1, and both need a Memento Ring. We need Gogo in Group 2 because there’s something else to Steal there, and thus we need his Mime skills. Mog and Gau should not be in the same group to avoid two Berserkers, and Gogo should not be in the same group with someone who’s Skill he has. My Gogo has Blitz and Lore, so he cannot be in the same group as Sabin or Strago, and because we know he’s in Group 2, Sabin is in Group 1. And since Group 1 has both Sabin, Shadow and Relm, we’ll round them out with Mog. That overall makes your set-up into Kefka’s Tower look like this.

Group 1
Relm
Mog
Shadow
Sabin

Group 2
Terra
Gau
Setzer
Gogo

Group 3
Edgar
Strago
Locke
Celes

Suit 'em up[edit source]

Now it's time to get everyone equipped. I recommend using the guy on the Falcon to de-equip everyone to make this easier. Consult Part 26 on how to get rare stuff from the Colloseum, and blow any money you have left on Hero Rings at the Auction (50,000 gil a piece). Then, use these equipment set-ups for optimum power.

Terra/Celes

  • Enhancer
  • Enhancer
  • Red Cap
  • Minerva Bustier
  • Genji Glove
  • Hero Ring/Earring

Since they use mostly the same stuff, Celes and Terra have the same set-up for maximum magical power. If you don't have 2 Minervas, don't worry, you get one inside the tower, same with the Red Caps. Their elemental defenses, coupled with the many stat boosts of the Red Caps and the +14 magic power with dual-Enhancers makes them very potent.

Locke

  • Valiant Knife
  • Genji Shield
  • Genji Helmet
  • Force Armor
  • Master's Scroll
  • Briand's Glove/Miracle Shoes/Ribbon

Because of the Valiant Knife, Locke really wants to use the Master's Scroll, and he uses it well. Locke doesn't really need to Steal or Mug until the fight with the Triad, so give him something else until then. I always enjoy Miracle Shoes and Ribbons myself.

Edgar

  • Holy Lance
  • Genji Shield
  • Circlet
  • Genji Armor
  • Dragon Horn
  • Dragoon Boots

Edgar is still in his Dragoon mode, and all that Genji stuff gives him excellent defense, not that he needs it because he'll usually be in the air.

Sabin

  • Tigerfang
  • Aegis Shield
  • Circlet
  • Red Jacket
  • Earring
  • Earring

Sabin's magic power is pushed to the max, and he has a good chance of avoiding enemy spells. His Phantom Rush will be all he needs, and it will likely do 9999 damage a hit.

Gau

  • Nothing
  • Genji Shield
  • Circlet
  • Snow Scarf
  • Hero's Ring
  • Miracle Shoes

Gau is given good stuff too, and his Hero's Ring will boost his power regardless of which Rage he uses. Miracle Shoes are a favorite Relic of mine, but most other characters need Earrings more. Not Gau, he's plenty strong without them. Plus, the boost from the Snow Scarf is so large, Gau can afford to use a Circlet for the stat boosts without losing any defense.

Mog

  • Holy Lance
  • Force Shield
  • Circlet
  • Snow Scarf
  • Dragoon Boots
  • Dragon Horn

Mog's still a Dragoon. Nothing to explain, really. He has maxed out defense, however, even with the Circlet and Force Shield! Gotta love that Snow Scarf!

Relm

  • Magus Rod
  • Genji Shield
  • Cat-Ear Hood
  • Behemoth Suit
  • Soul of Thamasa
  • Memento Ring

My Relm had a whopping 84 magic power with this set-up. Everything but the Shield boosts her spells. She's deadly, be sure she knows Ultima.

Shadow

  • Gladius
  • Aegis Shield
  • Circlet
  • Genji Armor
  • Hero's Ring
  • Memento Ring/Hero's Ring

Shadow doesn't need a weapon, Throw things! If you don't have a second Memento Ring, give him a second Hero's Ring. His Throw will be insanely strong regardless of what he chucks. You find a second Aegis Shield in the tower, give it to him when you do.

Setzer

  • Anything
  • Paladin's Shield
  • Genji Helmet
  • Genji Armor
  • Master's Scroll
  • Miracle Shoes

It doesn't matter what weapon you give him, because Setzer's ultimate weapon is in the tower. Paladin's Shield gives him elemental resistance, and Miracle Shoes defends him even more. Once you find his ultimate weapon, put the Master's Scroll to good use. However, as he and Locke both want to use it, whenever you swap parties, swap the Scroll around too.

Strago

  • Magus Rod
  • Genji Shield
  • Circlet
  • Behemoth Suit
  • Earring
  • Earring

You've probably already noticed, but Strago is also outfitted for max magic power. What more needs to be said?

Gogo

  • Magus Rod
  • Genji Shield
  • Circlet
  • Tao Robe
  • Earring
  • Earring

Since my Gogo has Blitz and Lore, he also needs good magic power. Plus, the Circlet an Tao Robe boost his pathetic stats, and the Genji Shield gives him much-needed defense since he's so fragile.

Ready?[edit source]

Buy stuff for Shadow to Throw, stock up on Tents, Save, and do anything else you need like getting Lores, Rages, Dances, stuff at the Colloseum. It's finally time to enter Kefka's Tower. Fly the Falcon over to it and press B. Hm, seems that if you destroy the revived Warring Triad that is powering Kefka, Espers and magic could vanish. If that happened...what about Terra?

Take a breath, form your parties, and enter Kefka's Tower. Get ready for the fight of your life.
