Welcome to Technobliterator's walkthrough to Final Fantasy V!

Greetings, reader of this page. I am Technobliterator, a user of this wiki, a staff member, and now I come to you as a walkthrough writer!

Important information
Here's some important information regarding the game you should probably read.

Here's a general overview of the Job System. Trust me, you'll want to read this, because I sure as hell didn't read the instructions when I started :D

  • You get ABP after battle to level up the jobs. Job levels mean you permanently gain that ability to use on only that character. Don't be afraid to learn the same job on multiple characters, though it might be useless early.
  • Level jobs for their ability, and change them regularly. Don't make the easy mistake of sticking with one job because it seems leveled.
  • Jobs can be changed at any time out of battle. It is advisable, too, especially early on for some bosses.
  • Staying on jobs to learn a few things is fine. Don't waste time mastering a job if a better one is available.
  • The Freelancer is a lategame job. Other than certain bosses, never use it until super late, I mean, endgame dungeon late. This is because you won't level up your jobs with them. The only job coming close is the Mime job (basically, Freelancer for Mages).

This walkthrough was written on the iOS/Android version, though that version is identical to the GBA version, which in turn, is almost identical to the PlayStation and SNES versions, with the exception of a missing Bonus Dungeon, and worse translations. Essentially; no matter what the version of FF, I'll be able to help out. Depending on your version:

  • If you're playing SNES or PS, the names will be very different, just watch out for the sprites, which are identical.
  • If you're playing SNES or PS, then you can ignore everything I put that comes after the Final Boss (unless you've decided to beat Omega and Shinryu after the boss).
  • If you're playing any version but the iOS/Android versions, ignore the achievements boxes. You can still read them, and still go and do them if you like, there just won't be much point.

You probably better not read too far ahead in the walkthrough, if you want to avoid spoilers. Like, don't accidentally read what comes after a boss. Anyway, if it's your first playthrough (and it probably is), have no fear. I won't hold your hand, and I will give you plenty of freedom as to what jobs. The point of my walkthrough isn't to be strict, it's to help you beat this game 100%. There are some times in which you'll need a job or two mastered, but don't worry.

Oh, and if you want to come into the walkthrough late, then I'll try not to make any assumptions as to what you've previously done. If I do assume you did something previously, which you didn't, then I'll try to mention it. If not, give me a shout and I'll fix. Anyways; like I said, you don't have to follow this guide strictly, if you want to come and look up info, then sure.
Formatting information
This walkthrough, being a Technobliterator walkthrough, will use my own Walkthrough templates. Those are designed to be customisable to suit walkthroughs for any game. For this game, here's how the rating system works:
  • I rate characters out of 10. In Final Fantasy V, this does not relate to their strength in battle at all. Basically:
    • Below 4 = crap character, should not be in this game
    • 5-7 = decent character, tends to be annoying
    • 8-9 = really good character, but not too developed
    • 10+ = standout amazing badass
  • I rate bosses on a scale of 1-5, with an extra 6 for a different purpose. It's fairly simple to understand, but basically:
    • Cannot lose = scripted battle, don't use any MP
    • Easy = you'll probably win if you're at least slightly competent (and it's my job as the walkthrough writer to make sure you are)
    • Medium = it'll be a challenge, but not too tough of one
    • Hard = definitely challenging, might take a few tries, a really good strat, or an overleveled party
    • Very hard = even the most overleveled parties will struggle, and this sure as hell will not be easy
    • Impossible = you're not supposed to fight yet, or your loss is scripted

I also make use of tabbers. These are for different strategies, or for list of jobs. A tabber looks like this:

Hi!

How're you?

Background information
Just a bit of background info, it's unimportant. Feel free to skip.

My personal opinion on FFV? This game's amazing. One of my favourites in the series. Customization is almost unrivaled (beaten by VI and X), and the job system is intuitive and ingenious. Don't come in to the game expecting the epic story you got in VII. V is close to my favourite, which is VI. The music is incredible, and so is the gameplay. Everything rules. One of the best characters in the series is in this game. Shame, however, that no other real standout characters are. The story's good, not amazing.

I'm writing this walkthrough on the simple basis that I saw Walkthrough:Final Fantasy V was empty. That's the main reason I started working on it. The quality of the finished product is for the readers to decide, of course. But I'm making this because I wanted to walkthrough one of my favourite entries to the series and because I saw there was a general lack of walkthroughs.

Well, I'll try to be informative, I'll try not to be dull, nor will I try to force any humour at all. I'm just going to give you a walkthrough that tells you how to play this game from the start to the finish, and tells you how to unlock every single achievement. While I sucked when I first started this, I am good at this game, rest assured :D on my first playthrough, not only did I beat Shinryu and Omega, I beat Neo-Shinryu, Omega Mk. II, and stuff...all you need to know is those are superbosses, and not spoilers, but they're really hard. You'll find out why if you're reading on as I'll tell you how to beat them.
Table of contents
----
World One

The start of the game, where you really get eased slowly into it.

World Two

The introduction of one of FF's finest characters, and a transition to a much harder game.

  • Parts go here

World Three

Getting ready for THE FINAL BATTLE, and if you're on the GBA version, THE FINAL FINAL BATTLE, if iOS/Android, THE FINAL FINAL FINAL bunch of sidequests that aren't battles. Aw. That was anticlimatic.
