Welcome Space Monkies, to another page of my, BlueHighwind's Final Fantasy V Walkthrough. Regrettably this page is not special in any, way, shape or form.

Pirate's Cove

Boko will have to be left behind outside, but your human freinds can enter just fine. This is the very first place where you'll encounter Random Battles, but none of these are too difficult. Really you shouldn't have the slightest trouble getting through here. Run North through the door then West to find the very first Recovery Spring. This will fully heal your party's MP, HP, and revive any fallen members. Not that you'll need this right now. Leave out the North door.

Run East then up a bit to see a Pirate open the secret entrance to his cave. You should remember how he does it. Now go East a bit to find the game's first Chest - it holds a Leather Cap. Go up and press the Skull on the wall to open the secret Pirate Base. Then go North through the new door. Head up a bit to see the world's last usable boat sail by. Run along the linear path to find the entrance the Pirate Base.

Luckily for us the pirates are painfully incompetent. All of their guards are sound asleep. So run up through the bridge to find the deck of the ship. At the top is the steering wheel, touch it. Instead of blowing sail, we get captured. Chick-faced Captian Faris and her gang will instantly overwhelm us. Princess Kidnapping Count: 1.

Strangly the next day Faris has a change of mind. The captain instead seems to be bowing to our commands of heading to the Wind Shrine. On an interesting note, the pirate ship is run by dragon power. Yup, a giant dragon head named Slydra pushes this thing around. Pretty sick, though not as bad as Chocobos on a mouse wheel. Oh and Faris joins our party as the fourth member of our pathetic little band:

Playable Character: Faris

FFV-amano faris

Faris Scherwiz is the androgenous wierdo of this game. Since Bartz's sprite came out far too manly, somebody decided to make this character sexually ambiguous. In reality, Faris is a "She", though this twist is actually extremely obvious. Just see the sprite, I haven't seen androgeny like that since Larsa from FFXII, or perhaps more fitting Sir Intregra from Hellsing (also a "She"). Strangly her hair is clearly a fitting purple as a sprite, but yet it turns yellow in the artwork. Why can't the sprites and artwork ever agree on anything? Its almost sad to see them bickering constantly.

Oh and this chick is certainly the ugliest female in all of Final Fantasy. If you happen to have any unintentional sexual fantasies about her, consult your local Tifa, Edea, or Beatrix shrine and beg for redemption.

Wind Shrine

Welcome to the very first dungeon in the game. A pirate will offer to drive you there, but if you're a hands on type of guy/gal then sail all the way North to the Notheast corner of this sea. There will be the shrine right there on your World Map.

Enter the Shrine and head left to find a gathering of fellows too cowardly to save their possibly dead king. Since the "valient" knights of Tycoon are too pussy to do anything, looks like our brand new four member party is now in charge of saving the world from this threat. If they were Highwind Knights not only would the king be safe, but the Crystal would be intact and the mysterious evil would be reciting Shakespear to avoid another beating. Talk to the guy in the lower left to recieve five Tonics. Also the pot at the bottom will fully heal your party. This will come in handy if you've really screwed up somehow and need to retreat.

Head West and go up the stairs. Now on the second floor, run East to find a Chest containing a Tent. Head back to the center and go down the middle to find a room containing the very first Save Point. You can use these to Save your game inside dungeons and heal your party with Tents and Cottages. But don't use that Tent you just found yet - save it for more desperate circumstances. Head South and go up the right stairs to find a room leading nowhere. Well at least it has a Leather Cap for your enjoyment.

Go back down the stairs and go up the left stairs to get up to the next floor. Go around the floor until you're in the very center. Here there are two doors and stairs guarded by a winged monster. The right door leads to nothing, so don't go through there. But the left door holds a Broadsword, which you will find very useful in a moment. Equip it on either Lenna or Galuf to boost their sub-par attacking power then go harass that monster to start the very first boss fight.

WRaptor Open

Boss Battle: Wing Raptor
HP: 250
Difficulty: Easy

As first bosses go, this one is actually mildly difficult, and there is a very slim chance that you might lose. However that chance can be removed entirely if you equip that Broadsword on one of your weaker attackers. Since you only have three Potions, make them count. Use them only when a character's HP has gone below 20, because then Wing Raptor's only attack "Breath Wing" will hit for around 17 HP. Just attack normally and have your weakest attack heal, until it hides inside its wings. Now regular attacks won't work, and attacking will just make it attack you with a weak counter. Guard until it pops out again, then kill it without mercy. Mercy is for the weak-willed and won't be of much use in this game.

Go up the stairs and go to the very Southeast corner to find a hidden hall. Head right down it to find a Staff. Now go through the middle door to find the hall of the non-defunk Wind Crystal. King Tycoon will tell you to save the world. The tools of this quest: the broken shards of the Wind Crystal. They each hold the very first Jobs you'll recieve in this game. Go out throught the Teleporter in the back and then prepare to make your very first team.

Wind Crystal Jobs

Here is the first in a series that will details the Jobs that this game gives you. Since this is the first Crystal, you get only basic Jobs - mostly those from Final Fantasy I.

V Knights

Job: Knight

This is the basic Warrior ability. It gives a good start to any character that you want to be offensively and defensively strong. Knights come packed in with a "Cover" Ability that I've never found useful in any game, and FFV is no different. However this Job does give some of the best physical strikes in the early part of the game, and it does teach many great abilities for when your Warrior moves onto better classes - like "Equip Shield", "Equip Armor", "Equip Sword", but the best by far is "Two-Handed", which is pretty much essential for the Final Dungeon.

V Monks

Job: Monk

Ah the classic Monk class, truly a beauty in Final Fantasy I and even more so in Tactics, but here it just kind of loses it luster as other classes gain more and more power. Its power is unmatched in the early stages of the game, and thus no you should not go anywhere without it. Many of its abilities are pretty lame, but "Counter" is always excellent.

File:V Theives.PNG

Job: Thief

Thieves have grown much more powerful since Final Fantasy I. Why? Well they can actually Steal in this game. And every Item you Steal is one you do not need to buy. Theives are fast and have high evade, but can't attack well. I'll let you in on a little secret: Speed and Evade mean gowno in pretty much every RPG. "Find Passages" is a great ability for finding secret tunnels and the like (all of which would be glaringly obvious at ground level, but we're stuck with a bird's eye view). But since I'll be pointing those out for you, you won't really find much need for it. "Steal", and "Mug" are nice tricks to pass onto the next generation. Also learn "Sprint" because you'll need it in a single dungeon.

V Bl Mages

Job: Black Mage

This job can perform Black Magic and little more. That's all a Class needs. This one is also extremely powerful in the early portions of the game when so many monsters and Bosses have huge elemental weaknesses. Its a great Class, and learning Black Magic so useful in so many ways.

V W Mages

Job: White Mage

I don't know if I've ever said this before, but I'll say it now: no party is complete without somebody that can perform White Magic. And this class is the only way to learn it. Get somebody in this Job immediately, then pass this thing around until at least three out of your four characters can use White Magic proficiently. White Magic is pretty much the key to survival in more cases then I could ever count. Its just a nessesity of life.

V B Mages

Job: Blue Mage

Another great class. At this point in the game it can equip all the weapons that a Knight can, and it comes with Blue Magic (it takes a little while before you can use it though). Its somewhat irregular since you have to learn it by being attacked by monsters. This is very worthwhile, many of the best spells in the entire series are in this Magical Class. I'm a huge fan.

Oh I know its tough to choose, but you'll have to make a choice very soon. We still have a world to save after all. No time for dilly-dalling.
