We're up to Part 30! Usually, this would normally be the final or penultimate section, but Final Fantasy V has rather more content compared to other games in the series. Either that, or I'm spreading out this walkthrough more...

We're coming to the end of the main story. There's only a few more things left to do before we take on the final dungeon. Take the submarine to the eastern side of the world, south of the large northeastern desert. Dive with the submarine to find a tower.

Walse Tower[]

Enemies[]

Items[]

Seven minutes?! You sure? Blimey. Make your way to the bottom. The chest halfway down contains extra air bubbles, so save it for the way back up! The enemies seem to have gone...rusty. They act the same way they did before, so don't worry. Just keep an eye on the timer. At the bottom, you'll find a crystal shard. So that's the one that got away. You'll have to fight for it, though. Well, I say "fight"...

Boss Battle: Gogo
FamedMimicGogo-ffv-ios

Level: 77
HP: 47,114
MP: 60,000
ABP: 50

Steal: Gold Hairpin, Leather Armor
Drops: Tiger Mask

Weakness: Water
Immunity: Water (yes, really)
Absorbs: -

Difficulty: Easy
Strategy:

Yep, he's both weak against and immune to Water. In whatever way that makes sense.

If you decide to fight him head-on, go ahead and change that difficulty to Hard. You can defeat him, but it's an arduous task considering the time limit. It involves Silence, set via a spell or Spellblade.

To win 'properly', just do nothing for a couple of minutes and he'll banish himself to the Rift. Maybe he wanted to go and hang out with Gilgamesh? They'd make a great double act.

You receive the Mime Job afterwards. Now get the hell out before you drown! Make use of the chest halfway back up to refill those lungs. Once outside, track down the Black Chocobo and fly to the northeastern desert. There's a forest in which you can land. In the desert, you'll find these new Bestiary entries:

Go northeast to find North Mountain. It's been a while, right?

North Mountain[]

Items[]

Make your way back to the summit. You remember the way, don't you...? At the top, you'll find Bahamut, King of the Dragons and one of the ultimate Summon monsters. Here we go!

Boss Battle: Bahamut
Bahamut-ffv-ios

Level: 99
HP: 40,000
MP: 10,000
ABP: 25

Steal: Dragon Fang
Drops: Dragon Fang

Weakness: -
Immunity: Earth
Absorbs: -

Difficulty: Hard
Strategy:

It uses powerful, party-wide attacks. Flame Rings work well to absorb Atomic Ray and Blaze, though Coral Rings are also effective against some of his other attacks.

Start with Mighty Guard to bolster your defences and throw out Rapid Fire. Have White Magic on-hand to mop up the damage (and throw out Holy, making sure to heal after Mega Flare.

And with that, you gain the ability to summon Bahamut. Make your way down North Mountain and south across the desert to a new location.

Phoenix Tower[]

Enemies[]

Items[]

The trick here is that the walls on each floor have two spots where you can examine the wall to find the stairs leading up. The thing is, one of the two spots on each floor contains a powerful monster within the wall. On regular floors, the spots are one tile either side of the centre of the wall.

  • Floor 1: Left
  • Floor 3: Left
  • Floor 4: Right

On the 5th floor are two pots. The left contains 5,000 Gil and the right contains a Magic Pot enemy. To defeat it, throw Elixirs at it until it runs away. You gain an enormous 100 ABP, and a Phoenix Down.

  • Floor 7: Left
  • Floor 8: Left
  • Floor 9: Right

On Floor 10, the left pot contains 10,000 Gil (I sense a pleasant theme here), while the right contains another Magic Pot (and another Phoenix Down too).

  • Floor 12: Left
  • Floor 13: Left
  • Floor 14: Right

Floor 15 contains a Magic Pot on the left (ooh, a change) and another Phoenix Down, while the right pot holds 15,000 Gil (I was right :D).

  • Floor 17: Left
  • Floor 18: Left
  • Floor 19: Right
Phoenix-ffv-ios

On Floor 20, grab the 20,000 Gil on the left and annoy the Magic Pot on the right for more Job-grinding loveliness. As well as yet another Phoenix Down.

  • Floor 22: Right
  • Floor 23: Left
  • Floor 24: Right

Floor 25 has a Magic Pot on the left with an...Aevis Killer inside! (The clue was in the fact that I said 'an' instead of 'a' :P)

  • Floor 26: Left
  • Floor 27: Left
  • Floor 28: Right
  • Floor 29: Centre

On Floor 30, you'll find the Wind Drake/Hiryu/whatever. It falls from the tower and burns up. Farewell, sweet useless transport. It is reborn as the Phoenix summon!

Next time -- the final summon, and the checklist before taking on the final dungeon. See you there.
