Water Crystal Jobs

Job Class: Evoker
Arc-Evoker

An Evoker is your first summoning class to appear in a Final Fantasy game, though one that will be upgraded later.

The Evoker can use Summon, a way of calling upon a variety of unique beasts that can either damage an enemy with and attack or cast a beneficial spell on your party (there's a 50/50 split chance here I believe). Like with many of the magic classes, you need to first hunt down the summons in order to use them and the better ones you are going to have to do a bit of work to get. For the next couple of pages you can't get any Summons so I wouldn't bother using an Evoker yet. After that, you can utilise one if you wish but I generally avoided it during my runs through this game.

The Summoner class that you get later is uses these summons in a more powerful way so I would hold off till then.

Job Class: Viking
Luneth-Viking

A Viking is just another melee job that can just deal huge amounts of damage from the attack command. But when used correctly, the Viking may also prove to be a valuable asset to the team through his special ability

The cool thing about the Viking is that he can use Provoke which is an ability that draws all enemy attacks to the Viking for that turn. Think of it this way, you get your Viking to Provoke, your White Mage to heal him and then you have another two characters that are free to deal as much damage as they want without fear of being hit themselves. The only problem is that Provoke requires quite the bit of job level grinding to increase its chance of working, but they can lower the enemies defense as well through this command.

I'll recommend the Viking class from time to time so feel free to keep one with you.

Job Class: Dragoon
Ingus-Dragoon

A Dragoon is a very handy job class that has easily one of the cooler sprites to be looking at in the first slot of your party.

Dragoon's are well known for Jump. Its a move that lets you jump in the air and avoid all attacks before coming down the next turn and dealing twice as much damage. There isn't much more to their class than that other than they are good physical attackers and really effective against flying enemies. As with a few of the classes in this game, it'll be necessary against an upcoming boss battle.

Job Class: Bard
Ingus-Bard

There is a bit of a perception that the Bard class is a bit useless. Hopefully you can look past some of the misconceptions to see that they can be

The Bard can use Sing, an ability that changes depending on the type of Harp they are using. This ranges from HP healing to some nice positive buffs for your party depending on the harp that you grabbed. I sadly haven't used them too much so I can't really tell you how well they work but I imagine they'd be a nice alternative to constantly relying upon the weird MP system in this game. I just prefer using a White Mage but as always, feel free to give it a try.

Job Class: Dark Knight
Refia-DarkKnight

A Dark Knight is a useful Job Class that is necessary for at least one part of the game.

For those of you who have played Final Fantasy IV, you would already have an idea of what Souleater is. It is basically sacrificing a bit of your own HP so that you can deal some decent damage to all enemies. The key word in that being 'all' as it is one of the better all targeting abilities that doesn't cost you any MP to use. The HP you use for this ability isn't massive so feel free to use the Souleater ability pretty frequently. Just make sure you are watching their HP though! It is a particularly powerful class for this point of the game and you'll need it later against enemies that like to use Multiply.

So what do you think? I was pretty keen to get a Dragoon and Dark Knight in my party to change things up but I recommend you try getting a Viking too for this stage of the game.

Amur

Amur

The Town of Amur is the first little town on the Surface World that we will be visiting as we wake up here. It has all the shops that you need including Weapon and Armour shops for those of you who want to try a new job. There however isn't a Magic Shop here so you might want to consider swapping your trusty Black Mage out for the moment until we find some better spells. Don't bother with Evokers or Bard's just yet.

If you go outside, you will find that our ship has been chained to the shoreline. If you visit the bar in the Inn you will find out that this has been done by a man named Goldor. I can't even remember meeting a man named Goldor or why he would not even take the ship but rather chain it to the continent. Well his actions have meant that we will be paying him a visit so let us not keep him waiting.

Head down to the entrance of the town and talk to the woman. In will enter Four Old Men (their actual character title) who really don't have any reason for being in this story. They are calling themselves the Light Warriors too! I don't think these folk would have quite been able to handle the Kraken on the previous page. In the house on the right side of town you will meet a man called Gill (like from The Simpsons).

Anyway, in will enter the Four Old Men again but this time they seem to have found a way into the walls of the house. How did they get there?Old Gill will unlock the gate and we can head down into the drain and down to find the entrance of the sewers. If you head up into the cabbage patch near the North though you can find heaps of Gysahl Greens.

Sewers of Amur

There is no boss in this dungeon so there is no need to worry about conserving your MP. You might want to save a couple of spells for a bit of a smaller fight coming up but otherwise fire away! You will probably want to as well since the enemies in here are quite difficult anyway.

Amur Sewers

First Floor

The first floor is pretty easy, just run down the stairs into the water and back up the stairs going right to the actual stairs that lead to the next level.

Second Floor

Head down into the water and across to the Left and keep going all the way until you reach the stairs on the left wall. Before you head down them, make sure you take the little detour and grab the Cat Claws. I doubt you still have a Monk anymore though if you do then you got another weapon!

Third Floor

Keep following the linear path and once you cross the bridge a cutscene will occur. Turns out the Four Old Men aren't quite as hot as they thought. The Gigantoad are pretty strong as far as the offense go, but they aren't up to the standard of a typical boss battle.

The Old Men thank us and apologise for their arrogance. Ingus gives them a dressing down and tells them to leave the heroic work to us. Take care of your wounds and continue right until you find the stairs. There isn't much point to guiding you through this floor by floor is there?

Fourth Floor

When you enter this floor you can find a secret passage on the right wall that leads you into a room with a Diamond Bell and Hammer. Leave this room and go westwards and if you keep going through the wall there is another secret room with Kaiser Knuckles, Power Bracers and a Poison Dagger. Leave the room and continue to the west and follow the path down and right again to find the stairs.

Fifth Floor

Here you will find Delilah who is a cranky shut in who does her work down here in the sewers. She isn't particularly interested in our plight but throws us the shoes we need. Luckily, the Four Old Men save us from exploding into a million pieces and convince old Delilah to give us the actual shoes. This is probably the worst piece of dialogue in the whole game but it doesn't last too long and you will be able to teleport out of there with what you need. I'll be glad to put this whole series of events behind us.

The Next Quest

Amur - WM

Hopefully you got some training done while you were in the Sswers. Now that you have the levigrass shoes you can continue to the next page to find out what to do next. Before you do so, I suggest you do some grinding while your around Amur. You should buy as much equipment as you can and also get a Viking while you are at it. Ill recommend using one on the next page.
