Remove Silence from one ally.
Description
Vox is a White Magicks spell in Final Fantasy XII, both in the original PlayStation 2 version and the Zodiac re-releases. It is a single-target status heal spell that removes Silence, an ailment that disables the affected's magick-use. The animation of the spell is a reverse to the Silence spell.
The enemies Gijuk [a], Bwagi [a], and Rinok [a] use Vox to heal themselves and their allies of Silence.
Obtained[]
Vox's license costs 20 License Points. In the Zodiac versions, the player can buy the spell from shops since the beginning of the game for 300 gil.
In the original version, Vox is bought for 300 gil from Bhujerba, Dreadnought Leviathan, Rabanastre (after Ondore's Estate), Dalmasca Westersand (after Ondore's Estate), and Dyce.
In the Zodiac versions, Vox can be used by the job classes White Mage and Red Battlemage, though the latter requires a Quickening license (50 LP) to reach it. Larsa/Lamont also has it when he is a guest.
Mechanics[]
Vox removes Silence from a target. It costs 8 MP to use without any Channeling licenses. It bounces from Reflect unless the caster wears the Opal Ring.
Silence is a hazardous status that does not wear off even when KO'd. Silenced units cannot use magicks, Quickenings in the original version (can still be used in the Zodiac versions), or summon Espers, but can still use attacks and Technicks.
Use[]
Vox is a fairly good status heal spell the player can easily set up via the gambit system (Ally:Any→Vox works well). However, for more utility, the player can set up Ally:Any→Esuna gambit instead, which will respond to various ailments, not just Silence. The user of the spell should be protected against Silence with a Rose Corsage or a Ribbon so they remain able to use the spell. The player can also rather set up a gambit for Echo Herbs, which take no charge time to use, and are fairly cheap and plentiful, and they can be used to heal self of Silence, unlike with Vox.
Pure physical attackers, or those set to use Shades of Black, do not need to cure Silence.
Etymology[]
Vox means "voice" in Latin.
