Description
Vitality Up materia is a Complete Materia in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth that increases the user's
Vitality (in turn increasing their
Defense, and thus their physical defense) by a percentage based the materia's level. Vitality Up materia can in theory stack up to a max of 100% up, but only two of the materia can be obtained. Vitality Up materia would contribute toward
Spirit instead if the same character also has
VIT⇔SPR Materia.
Obtained[]
Two Vitality Up materia are obtained from combat simulator challenges: "Grasslands Battle Intel: Plain Stalkers" and "Corel Battle Intel: Oh, Skewer It". For the former, the player needs to defeat a Mandrake and a Thunderclaw. For the latter, the player needs to defeat a Shankhalopod and a Saberhawk.

Use[]
The Vitality Up materia provides a percentage boost to a party member's current vitality attribute. This improves resistance to physical damage. The materia could be given either to a party member who expects to tank the most damage, or the most fragile party member.
If given to bolster a party member's physical defense, the materia should be prioritized on Cait Sith, Aerith, Tifa, or Yuffie, who have the lowest vitality. This can be crucial against encounters that mostly deal physical damage.
For party members who expect to tank damage, Cloud and Red XIII expect to often take damage so as to counterattack. Barret can somewhat benefit from the materia also due to using Lifesaver, though this will only reduce damage directly on himself and not the damage redirected from others.
Vitality Up should not compete with HP Up Materia but rather complement it; though boosting HP improves durability against all attacks and not only physical attacks, because of HP Up's low cap, only one should be equipped, while Vitality Up can be equipped in addition for further durability.
Spirit Up Materia can compete with or complement the materia, being used to boost spirit (and thus magic durability) instead. The player can further mitigate damage with spells from
Barrier Materia and
Fortification Materia.
