There's an ailment called 'Disease', very nasty. Once you get that in your system, your wounds... they won't heal.

Virus (ウイルス, Uirusu?), sometimes called Disease or Pointless, is a negative status effect appearing in various games. It is normally not visible during a fight except by checking a character's status in a menu during the fight.
Appearances
Final Fantasy IX
Virus prohibits a character from earning Experience Points and Ability Points at the end of a battle, stunting character growth. In addition, Virus completely nullifies the target's Evasion stat. Virus can be removed by use of a Vaccine.

Final Fantasy X-2
Pointless prohibits a character from earning experience and Ability Points. It can be cured with Holy Water. The character inflicted will start flashing slowly.
Final Fantasy XI
Virus (divided into Plague or Disease) inhibits the regeneration of HP and MP through Healing. Players can still gain some HP and MP through Cures, Regen, and Refresh, as well as items that grant similar bonuses, however. The variation effect Plague instead slowly saps MP and TP until it wears off. Both status effects can be removed by casting Viruna on the inflicted.
Final Fantasy XII
The character's body festers with disease, preventing the healing of wounds. Remove with a Vaccine.
Description (original)
The character's body festers with disease, preventing the healing of wounds. Remove with a Serum.
Description (Zodiac)
Disease prohibits the use of healing items and magicks on a character. It does this in an odd way, by turning a character's Current HP into their new Maximum HP after it's inflicted. Even though they receive damage, the health bar doesn't drop at all, and seems to stay at 100%. Their actual HP does drop, but even Libra cannot detect the actual current HP.
Enemies usually combine Disease with Poison and/or Sap which will eventually reduce character's hit-point to only 1/1 (in such state, character is not regarded as HP Critical).
Disease is cured with a Vaccine (Serum in Zodiac versions), the White Magick Cleanse, or a Remedy, provided the character has the license, Remedy Lore 3. Characters who are currently in Bubble status will be immune to Disease. A KO'd character with Disease status will have only 1/1 HP if s/he was revived. A character can inflict Disease on enemies by using Vaccine (Serum) or Remedy only if that character has the accessory Nihopalaoa equipped.
In the Zodiac versions, a newly included mace Bonebreaker can inflict Disease along with Sap while attacking with 100% success rate. It is a vital weapon for the 100th stage of the Trial Mode. It can also be inflicted upon one enemy using the offensive item Meteorite (B).
Final Fantasy XIV
Virus reduces Strength and Dexterity by 15%.
Disease is a debuff separate from Virus. Disease reduces effectiveness of healing spells and reduces the user's movement speed, similar to the Heavy status.
Final Fantasy Brave Exvius
Disease lowers the afflicted party members' ATK, DEF, MAG, & SPR by 10% - which dampens the units' damage outputs, overall damage resistance, and magic healing potency - all in addition to any stat debuffs inflicted through offensive Abilities.
Disease is cured with a Vaccine, the White Magic Cleanse, or certain characters' Special Abilities and Limit Bursts. Disease is normally a persistent ailment over multiple battles or ongoing Explorations, but Terra, Trance Terra, Moogle, and Eiko cure their ailments after each battle with Terra's, Trance Terra's, and Moogle's passive ability Guardian Mog and Eiko's Mog's Friendship.
