Virus in Final Fantasy XIV.
Virus (ウイルス, Uirusu?) is a recurring ability in the Final Fantasy series.
Appearances[]
Final Fantasy XI[]
Virus is a spell used by a tiny handful of Notorious Monsters out of the hundreds in the game. It inflicts Plague on one target. Details such as skill used or MP cost are unknown, but it seems to be a Black Magic and is probably fire-elemental as that is the element associated with disease statuses in Final Fantasy XI. The only monsters that use it are the Clone of Flames appearing in the story of the add-on Final Fantasy XI: A Shantotto Ascension - The Legend Torn, Her Empire Born, the Funguar Mycophile, the Gnat Bloodlapper, and the Corse Belphegor.
Final Fantasy XIV[]
Virus was an ability available to the Arcanist class at level 12, which reduced the target's strength and dexterity by 15% for ten seconds. The trait "Supervirus" also enabled it to reduce intelligence and mind. A condition called "Antibody" would be applied when it wore off, preventing Virus from afflicting the target again for one minute. The action was available as a cross-class action and could only be used by Conjurers, Thaumaturge, Arcanist, White Mages, Black Mages, Summoners, and Scholars.
Due to the development team's desires to remove the cross-class system and unneeded actions for the Stormblood expansion, Virus and the Supervirus trait were both removed entirely. The ability was instead replaced with the caster cross-role action Addle.
