Virus is a player-exclusive status ailment in Final Fantasy IX that prevents the affected party member from receiving EXP and AP from battle. Virus also nullifies the affected's Evasion stat, making them unable to evade oncoming attacks. Virus can be used for low level challenge runs, but for most of the time in a normal playthrough it is a nuisance. Virus persists even in KO status until cured and is not removed by entering Trance like other ailments. Yans like to inflict Virus, making the player not earn EXP and AP from battling them even if they win.

Protection[]
The player cannot protect against Virus with immunity abilities, but when Eiko has Guardian Mog active, she is unaffected by Virus even if she contracts it mid-battle.
Healing[]
Virus is healed with a Vaccine, or by staying at an inn or using a healing spring.
Enemies[]
All enemies are immune to Virus.
