Final Fantasy VI PlayStation Bestiary entry
The Vector Chimera, also called Vectagoyle or Vectgoyl, is an enemy in Final Fantasy VI that can be found in the final dungeon, in the hall south of where the Gold Dragon lies—reachable by the second party. It is also fought inside the Dragons' Den and the Soul Shrine in the versions that include the bonus dungeons.
Stats[]
Battle[]
It uses a variety of powerful elemental attacks, many of which hit the entire party. At the point in the game they are fought, they have low HP and can quickly be killed with the party's strongest spells. It has no elemental weaknesses or resistances, so any spells will work.
Coliseum setup[]
Gigavolt, Aqua Breath, and Blaze are all evadable, but are better off absorbed or nullified with the Paladin's Shield, Minerva Bustier, or a combination of other equipment. Thunder Shield will let the wearer absorb Lightning and nullify Wind, while a Red Jacket will let the wearer absorb Fire. Using Gogo or Relm's Sketch will let the player use Gigavolt (25%) or Aqua Breath (75%).

Etymology[]
Kefka's Tower was built atop Vector, the Gestahlian Empire's former seat of power, and thus some enemies allude to it with their names. In molecular cloning, a vector is a DNA molecule used as a vehicle to artificially carry foreign genetic material into another cell, where it can be replicated and/or expressed. A vector containing foreign DNA is termed recombinant DNA.
chimera is a fire-breathing monster, one of the offspring of Typhon and Echidna. It is commonly represented with a lion's head, a goat's body, and a serpent's tail in Greek mythology. In modern usage, the term chimera is often taken to mean any sort of hybrid between two or more species.
TheVectagoyle and Vectgoyl is a portmanteau of "Vector" and "Gargoyle". Gargoyles were initially ordinary stone statues built on rooftops to let rainwater above flow down to the ground through certain paths. The statues were usually carved as monsters and strange creatures, which later spawned the belief that gargoyles are the guardians of the buildings they live in.
