Vayne Novus is the second form of Vayne in the final boss battle gauntlet on board the Sky Fortress Bahamut in Final Fantasy XII. After being initially defeated, Vayne uses nethicite to transform into Vayne Novus and takes on the party again. Vayne Novus is fought alongside multiple Sephiras.

After Vayne Novus is defeated, he uses the absorbed energies of Venat to fuse pieces of the Bahamut unto his body, becoming The Undying.

Battle

Vayne Novus will randomly use his two cinematic attacks, Azure Vortice and Contempt, which deal around 600–1,500+ damage to all characters in range. Even if all the Sephira Swords are destroyed, Vayne Novus can still execute his cinematic attacks; the swords will not disappear when destroyed, rather, they will surround Vayne.

When 50% of his HP is drained, a cutscene will follow, and Vayne Novus regains his positive statuses. He will attempt to execute more special attacks, such as Tree of Sephira, Inviolable Wall, and Limit Break, which boost his overall stats. He can negate all magick attacks for two minutes. His final cinematic attack, Tree of Sephira, hits for about 2,000+ to all characters in range.

Strategy

The party can either Berserk one character, or rely on Gabranth to attack the Sephira Swords. The player should then focus on Vayne Novus since the swords move fast. The party should quickly dispel Vayne Novus's positive status effects, and cast some positive statuses on the player party. Gabranth may have good stats, but he rarely heals.
