A candidate for the next emperor of Archadia, this ambitious man will do whatever it takes to preserve House Solidor. He has taken aggressive measures toward neighboring countries and framed Captain Basch for the assassination of the King of Dalmasca. He is also a skilled politician and persuasive speaker who can sway people's hearts.
Description

Profile[]
Appearance[]
Vayne wears a dark green pullover and pants. Beneath he wears a sleeveless suit of green armor, adorned with white gloves, black boots with gold knee-pads, gold belt, and white-and-gold winged armlets. Vayne's cloak is dark blue, crimson, and white.
His alternate costume is based on his appearance as Vayne Novus. He wears gold armored gauntlets, belt, and knee-pads, along with black boots. His pants are brown, and the remnants of his cloak are orange with black lining. His skin is darker, and his pupils and hair are gray.
Personality[]
Story[]
Vayne appears in Abandoned Petalum, recognizing Balthier, Vaan and Penelo. He requests to travel with the party for protection, given the powerful monsters roaming the land. The others from Ivalice are displeased at his appearance, and Vaan tries to refuse him. Vayne's humble and collected manner persuades the non-Ivaliceans to permit it, though Edgar says privately that he doesn't trust Vayne, only that starting a fight in their present circumstances would be unwise. Vayne follows them, although he does not assist in battle.
Vayne eventually traps Mog in a magic orb creating a powerful torsion. Although the party attacks Vayne, he survives and follows Mog inside the torsion. He also summons Ultima to attack the party, forestalling their pursuit.
Act 2, Ch. 7: Respite's Authenticity[]
In the eastern mountains[]
Vayne greets Ignis Scientia when Materia summons him to the world of respite, who recognizes Vayne as a man of status. The two converse about Noctis Lucis Caelum, the memories that Materia withheld from her earlier warriors, and the power of willpower in the world of respite. Vayne tells Ignis that he can reach out to Noctis via his out-of-service cellphone through the sheer force of will. As a parting comment, Vayne warns Ignis that the strength of Noctis's will might be shaken should his memories be restored.
Later, while Ignis is alone, Vayne steps out through a torsion and greets him again. This time Ignis draws his spelldaggers, having been briefed on Vayne's identity. Vayne assures that he has no intention of fighting Materia's warriors, and indeed has an agreement to aid them. Satisfied, but still suspicious, Ignis sheathes his daggers. Vayne asks of his impression of Noctis in light of his missing memories and shares his thoughts of how their fates are unfairly bound to crystals, even as Ignis refuses to answer. Before retreating through a torsion, Vayne alludes to the machinations of a warrior who seeks to take advantage of Materia's weakness as a warning for Ignis to relay to his allies.
Within a torsion, Vayne meets Sephiroth as the latter mulls over the possibilities of conquest in controlling a world at the intersection of so many other worlds. Vayne is privately disgusted at Sephiroth's intentions, but hopes that the warriors are given a chance to return home should Materia be permanently unseated. Seeing Materia as more vulnerable than Spiritus, he reasons that the next major clash between Sephiroth and the warriors of light will occur within Materia's chambers. Vayne resolves to prepare for that battle.
In the military base[]
Vayne waits within a fortress resembling those commandeered by Niflheim in the Lucian countryside when the warriors of light arrive. Ignis and Vayne exchange intelligence on Sephiroth, who has killed the goddess Materia and usurped her role as the world's god of light. Her death has made the world of respite unstable; it merely continues to exist by virtue of Spiritus's power and the sheer wills of Materia's warriors. Vayne echoes Cloud's call to action to defeat Sephiroth and to return Materia to her throne. He notes that although she is incompetent, her stewardship of the world of respite is reliably moderate.
Having gauged the warriors' intentions, Vayne poses the only remaining question: whether the warriors have the power to defeat Sephiroth. Vayne singles out Noctis, questioning the integrity of his resolve to protect others since his resolve as a king is so weak. He implies that the gap in his memories might be the cause. Ignis stands up for his friend and challenges Vayne to a battle to demonstrate that Noctis remains strong even in spite of his amnesia. After a protracted fight, Vayne becomes convinced. He attributes this to Noctis's ability to depend on his comrades and envies of him for it. As he steps back through a torsion, Vayne offers his aid once more should the warriors so choose to summon him.

Allusions[]
- Vayne is joined by Ardyn in his Force Mode and also pairs up with Cid Raines. All three harbor a disdain towards gods and have used their political and/or military ranks to pursue freedom from them.
- Both Ardyn and Vayne are the oldest sons (in Vayne's case, still alive) of their family, though the feelings they harbor towards their younger siblings are opposite, as Vayne cares deeply about Larsa while Ardyn despise Somnus.
- Gameplay wise, Vayne and Raines both use punches and kicks.
