FFTA - Vampire Portrait
FFTA-spr-vampire

Blood-feeding monster. Turns prey into undead.

Description

The Vampire is an enemy in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, an advanced form of undead. It floats and can teleport, and absorbs Dark and is weak to Holy. It has high overall stats, much surpassing Zombies. Being undead, Vampires will revive after three turns, but Archers and White Monks can remove their corpses with Burial and Exorcise, respectively, preventing them from reviving.

Abilities[]

Illude[]

Vampire command. Use dark power to take lives.

Description

Note: Normal vampires will have LV? S-Flare or Zombify, not both.

Ability Effect MP
Miasma Calls forth ill humors to damage and poison target.
LV? S-Flare Shadowflares units with same one's digit in level. 30
Zombify Zombifies target. Holy power cannot heal zombies.

Miasma deals both damage and poison, which can quickly rack up damage on even the tougher units. Zombify is one of the few ways to inflict the undead status on a player, meaning that healing spells will not work on them. Since the Vampire is weak to Holy, White Magic spells, like Curaga, damage them. Vampire can teleport freely, thus able to can maneuver around terrain and through enemies.

LV? S-Flare is learnable as Blue Magic, but its learning conditions are very specific; the Blue Mage's level must be the same as the Vampire using it. A Beastmaster can help speed up the process. Shadowflare is strong, and thus the player should ensure the Blue Mage does not die while being hit with it. Shadowflare is situational, but can be useful. Since it does damage even to the caster, it would be a good idea to supply them with equipment that reduces, nullifies, or absorbs Dark damage. The player should be careful and not use Shadowflare when it would end up hitting more of the player's units rather than the enemies.

Reaction[]

Ability Effect

Vampires named Lyle, Colin, and Guinness are fought during "Mortal Snow".

A Vampire is part of the Undead fought during "Defend Helje".

Variant Vampires[]

  • Lord Ghost ("Salika Keep")
  • Dread Lord ("Last Stand")
  • Gutskor the Rukavi ("Free Bervenia")

Etymology[]

Vampires are mythological or folkloric beings who subsist by feeding on the life essence, generally in the form of blood, of living creatures. Although vampiric entities have been recorded in many cultures, and may go back to "prehistoric times", the term vampire was not popularized until the early 18th century.
