Description

Vaan is a playable character in Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia who can be recruited during Chapter 2 of the main storyline.

Characteristics[]

Appearance[]

Vaan wears a loose-cropped open shirt fastened by a pendant over his chest, which belonged to his late elder brother, Reks. He wears dark pants tucked into knee-high steel boots and held up by a red sash.

His first alternate costume, Conflicted Hero, is his design (Vaan in Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift) from Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift, which features a shirt under his vest, gauntlets that are no longer fingerless and cover his wrists, slightly different knee armor, and an ornament on his waist.

His second alternate costume is Zodiac Rider, an original design (DFFNT Vaan Costume 03-A) as downloadable costume in Dissidia Final Fantasy NT

Lost Chapter: A Burning Passion[]

After the Warrior of Light first sights an unknown warriors attempting to close a Torsion in a snowy mountainous zone, he leads Vaan, Tifa, Rem and Sazh to intercept him. They fear that the warrior may not understand the risk of his actions, and that he might not be able to fend off attacking monsters. When Sazh critiques the unknown warrior’s recklessness, The Warrior of Light highlights that the man’s courage could yet be a great asset to their cause. This warrior turns out to be Snow Villiers.

Lost Chapter: Balamb Whiplash[]

Vaan meets Quistis shortly after she is discovered in a lava field near Capta Est Tower by a group led by Laguna. He and a few others raise the topic of Seifer and the disciplinary committee. When Vaan and Hope tell Quistis that the splinter group has been antagonistic to the rest of them all throughout their time in the new world, Quistis offers an apology on their behalves, having been Seifer's past instructor. Yuna, however, comes to Seifer’s defence, as he had reassured her that she should not have to shoulder everything herself, and that she should have a knight as her protector and defender. In light of this, Quistis expresses a hope that perhaps he, Fujin, and Raijin might yet find their way.

Act 2, Ch. 7: Respite's Authenticity[]

Sephiroth usurps Materia and becomes a god of the world of respite. As part of his strategy to destabilize the wills which support the world, Sephiroth conjures countless dark manikins of Zack Fair and disguises them as lifelike clones of many of the warriors of light. He sends them to infiltrate the ranks of the warriors, where will then degrade into monsters. After Zack confronts his original dark manikin and reclaims his brilliance and memories, he and Cloud call for a strategy meeting to decide - based on the manikin's memories - on the best way to stop Sephiroth. Vaan heeds the call to the meeting. When Ignis reaffirms Zack's narrative based on earlier intelligence he had heard from Vayne, Vaan becomes very upset and demands that Ignis explain why he did not disclose that Vayne had been his informant all this time. Ignis counters Vaan, explaining that he wasn't sure if the Vayne he met was a fake, and stating that he wanted to confirm his intelligence before sharing it. Furthermore, Ignis suggests that he was trying to avoid the needless ire of people like Vaan, who did not trust Vayne enough even to hear him out. Vaan believes Ignis is insinuating that he is immature and becomes even more upset before Edgar refocuses the meeting on the task at hand.

Intersecting Wills: A Bouquet of Thoughts and Flowers[]

As Aerith presents a bouquet of yellow flowers to Squall and Rinoa, conversing with them and Firion about dreams of filling the world with the beauty of flowers, Vaan rushes by and interrupts the conversation to ask Aerith a question. He mentions that Penelo and Ashe were interested in seeing her flowers as well. Before he can finish his thought, Aerith presents him with a bouquet of Galbana Lilies, his late brother Reks’ favourite flower.

Allusions[]

  • Vaan pairs with Machina as both lost their brother in a war and blamed the cause of their deaths to others. They are protective with their childhood friends and become lovers with them at the end of their games (in Vaan and Penelo's case, the ending of Revenant Wings).
  • Vaan claims he is not a thief, since all he does is steal from bad guys who stole from others.
  • Like in Dissidia NT, Vaan's weapon of choice is a sword and his victory pose is based on his pose when wielding a dagger/mace/measure from Final Fantasy XII, itself an allusion to how Vaan starts with a dagger equipped in his base game.
  • The opening attack of his LD ability Earthen Eruption is based on Steel Trinity, one of his ground bravery attacks in Dissidia NT.
  • The final attack Vaan does in his FR ability Final Chase is Azure Torment, one of Vaan's HP attacks in Dissidia NT, while the opening move Vaan does is Dreadnought his EX skill in that same game.
  • All of his abilities except C65 and Final Chase (except final and first moves from Vaan) are Vaan's HP attacks and EX Skill in Dissidia NT.
  • Red Spiral, White Whorl and Pyroclasm are Vaan's Quickenings, while White Out and Luminescence are Concurrences in Final Fantasy XII.
