Uvlo Gahjewesfv is a character in Final Fantasy XIV. He is the emissary of the Kuguma village from Othard in charge of traveling the world and gathering knowledge for his people. Uvlo appears during the Wachumeqimeqi Deliveries.
History[]
Before Dawntrail[]
Originally from the village of Kuguma, located in the snow-capped mountains of the Skatay Range in Othard, Uvlo was chosen as the emissary to leave the village alone and learn all the knowledge he could to teach his people. He traveled across the Three Great Continents, always returning to his village every two winters. Uvlo worked at almost every possible job during his travels, being a notable expert on the subject of minerals due to his village.[2]
Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail[]
When he heard there were viera in Tural known as the Shetona, being a people so far away yet so similar to his own, Uvlo wanted to learn more about them and boarded the first ship he could find to the continent. Once at the port, he asked where he could find a Shetona and was told to go to Wachumeqimeqi. There he met a Shetona called Shunye. Uvlo offered to work at Shunye's Apothecary in exchange for Shunye telling him about the customs of his people.[3]
Eager to test their skills, Shunye asked Uvlo and the Warrior of Light to provide him with basic products from his apothecary. Once they both returned with quality items, Shunye was impressed, especially with Uvlo who, despite it being his first time in Tural, had managed to gather the items without needing a guide. Shunye agreed to hire them both for future delivery requests.[4]
Shunye was worried about the lack of funds in Uvlo's wallet. Even though Uvlo told him not to worry because he was used to camping, Shunye invited Uvlo to move in with him.[2] Uvlo tried to pay for his stay with the salary he received from Shunye, but was rejected. To compensate for the accommodation, Uvlo began doing housework allowing Shunye to have more time at the apothecary.[5]
Shunye eventually asked for some more items for the two of them. When Uvlo returned with his delivery, Shunye was speechless at the beauty of the amethysts. Uvlo explained that his people lived among rough mountains and had developed a talent for mining. He revealed that he was acting as an emissary for his village and intended to eventually return to his people to share the knowledge he had acquired about the outside world.[2]
The apothecary was visited by Shunye's sister, Uapyota, who was disappointed to discover that her brother was going to continue with his business. She placed an order for cleaning products. Once the products were ready, Shunye entrusted the Warrior of Light to deliver Uapyota, and Uvlo volunteered to accompany them. Uapyota accepted the delivery and apologized for her previous rudeness and revealed her concern for Shunye and his tragic past. Once back, Shunye confessed that he believed the cause of the destruction of his former home was a fallen meteorite. He had little to support his theory, apart from fragments of blue stone that he called Azure Tears.[1]
After Uvlo insisted, Shunye allowed the Warrior of Light and Uvlo to go to Yak T'el, where a meteorite had fallen, and look for something that might be similar to the Azure Tears. The pair returned with some small fragments with a color similar to the Azure Tears, but it still was not enough to establish a connection between the Azure Tears and the meteorite.[6]
Shunye consulted the Warrior of Light and Uvlo, and together they decided the best course of action would be to travel to Mamook and ask the residents if they had seen a stone similar to the Azure Tears. The residents of Mamook did not seem to know anything about the stone or had any interest in discussing the matter. Uvlo suggested changing the approach and asking if there was anyone who might know about the region's rarer types of stones and plants. Armed with a new strategy, the Warrior of Light and Uvlo returned to the streets of Mamook to question its citizens. The pair learned about Gosaal Ja, the grandson of a former Mamool Ja scout who was known for his collection of rare plants and rocks. Talking to Gosaal Ja, he fondly recalled his grandfather's exploits, saying that he found a stone similar to the Azure Tears during a reconnaissance mission to the waters of Iq Rrax Tsoly. Unfortunately, the stone was lost a long time ago. The pair traveled to Iq Rrax Tsoly to look for other similar minerals. Once the Warrior of Light collected an azure fragment from the bottom of the water, Uvlo believed that it was the same one that Shunye brought back from his village.[7]
Back in Tuliyollal, the pair gave the azure fragment to Shunye who began to analyze it. Shunye confirmed its properties corresponded exactly to those of Azure Tears, and the apothecary concluded it was composed of molten earth and crystallized aether formed after the impact of a meteorite. This revelation allowed him to accept his loss and ponder what awaited him in the next chapter of his life. Shunye expressed his gratitude to Uvlo and the Warrior of Light for solving this long-standing mystery. He pondered resuming the traditional Shetona journey, and Uvlo was eager to join him. However, Shunye was reluctant to leave his beloved store and the customers he served, and decided to stay in Tuliyollal for a while longer.[7]
