Moar[edit source]

Odin's ok? All right. Yes, I'll get to the Flood Worm soon. Umm, about Bahamut...the pose it does when it Megaflares, I can't catch it - it's too fast - I've tried nearly 4 times, it's too fast. I've taken three/four shots of it in-battle, again, I'll upload them soon, just see what you can use. Oh, and congratulations on your second archive :3 s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 07:39, May 21, 2013 (UTC)

MORE: I have a save in Troia. I'll try to get an in-battle shot of Dark Dragon. Actually, wait, there isn't much difference with the bestiary and in-battle. I remember the dark battle background obscures some of the dark dragon's tail. In the bestiary, there's only a very small part of the end of its tail cut off. What I'm saying is that I think after you see the in-battle one, you're going to want to use the bestiary one we have. After a while I might be able to reach the Dwarven Castle and see if I can get a usable shot of Shadow Dragon (though I know I won't be able to get a full one). Also, about Ogopogo and Leviathan. In-battle or Bestiary, only half of them (they're really long!) are shown. I don't really want you to use the in-battle shot, there's not much difference with the Bestiary (talking about view), and the Bestiary's bigger and better so you're better off taking that one. Either shows only the head part and some of the length, but using the Bestiary one I can give you a full view of their tails and some of what's missing with the length. I was thinking if you could glue them or something or whatever you can think of. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 07:47, May 21, 2013 (UTC)

This is the closest to the Megaflare pose. I know Edge is in the way, but I know you can do something about that.

File:Bahamut ffiv ios 2.PNG

If the other one is not usable, then this is the most unobscured one I can get.

File:Odin ffiv ios bestiary.PNG

This is Odin's bestiary shot, but the cape is cut off.

s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 08:42, May 21, 2013 (UTC)

I should be able to do something between those two Bahamut's. As for the Dark Dragon, anything is better than the iOS image we currently have, which is so cut-off that it's completely unusable. Espritduo (talk) 08:45, May 21, 2013 (UTC)

*sigh* I should show you the in-battle Dark Dragon. But anyway, you have the final word so I'll stay out of this. So, what about Levi and Ogo? Have you seen the bestiary Odin? And please, could you pngify Palom and Porom's DS CG renders? Pleaaaaaseeeeeeeee? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 11:43, May 21, 2013 (UTC)
Just get a screenshot of Leviathan and Ogopogo, and anything else we're still missing from the list I made. Whatever shows the most. Something is better than nothing at all. Espritduo (talk) 14:50, May 21, 2013 (UTC)
About Ogo and Levi, I'm taking bestiary shots of their heads-length, and another shot of their tails (yea, just tails..). I'm also going to upload an in-battle shot of the missing ones too just in case. I'll always let you guys decide. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 16:02, May 21, 2013 (UTC)

Moaaar[edit source]

More gifts fer ya.

File:Dark Dragon ffiv ios in-battle.PNG

In the bestiary shot, only a very small amount of the tail was cut off! And I know you could do something about that. But anyway, here's the in-battle shot.

Dark Bahamut. Do you think you can do something about the wings?

Don't ask me about the yellow things, they're too tall.

Only his left shoe is cut off, but meh?

I was looking at the DS one and it's also cut off a lot, so..

I know you're sick of me now

s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 10:01, May 22, 2013 (UTC)

I can work with those. The Dark Bahamut one's iffy, but we'll see. And I guess we did hav most of the Dark Dragon. It's got a weird shape, and I thought it was more cut off than it was, but I think I can use both (use the big one, and take the tail off the small one). Leviathan and Ogopogo...I can't remember, but aren't they actually like that in battle too? They may just be hanging from the ceiling like that, with nothing more to be seen, like the hanging vampire girls. Espritduo (talk) 12:57, May 22, 2013 (UTC)

Okay. So if you're going to use the bestiary shot of Dark Bahamut in some way, tell me so that I'll also take a bestiary shot of Bahamut. I'm also going to upload an in-battle Dark Bahamut soon. About Levi and Ogo, I looked at the DS renders, yea, there's more cut off from it than in the iOS one we currently have, yea. In-battle, neither gets a full view. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 14:27, May 22, 2013 (UTC)
I should be able to use the Dark Bahamut shot. I plan on getting all those done today. Espritduo (talk) 21:38, May 22, 2013 (UTC)
Okay, everything's done that I can do. Still need Flan Princess, Zeromus (final), White Dragon, Mopingway, Proto-Babil, Yang, and if possible something more to work with for Dark Bahamut and Geryon. And if you could list for me every Developer's Room enemy with their exact name as it appears in battle and what sprite they use, that would help a bunch. Espritduo (talk) 07:01, May 23, 2013 (UTC)

Eggman Clarification[edit source]

Thanks for the info, but I have a question for you. From what I read just a few moments ago on the Japanese wiki, Eggman also does not appear in the Japanese version of FFV too, he doesn't show up like the other summons when summoned, but its sprite is present within the game's data. Is this right? It's not a big entry, here's Eggman's entry: Fenrir9 (talk) 17:05, May 22, 2013 (UTC)

As far as I know, Eggman never appears as a summon when summoned in any version - the name of the attack appears, then the message, and that's it, both in Japanese and English version (the Jap FFwiki describes the summon just as I did). Honestly, I suspect that the Eggman sprite is present in the game data for all versions of FFV. I don't think it's actually an enemy at all, just the sprite for the summon, which never gets used. Someone just took the summon sprite and used it to replace the enemy sprite for a specific enemy, and voila! you now have an Eggman enemy. I suspect you could do the same thing with Syldra, chibi Carbuncle, Chocobo, etc., and I suspect you could do this for any version of FFV, not just the Japanese Advance. We just happen to have a video of this hacking being done for the Japanese Advance version. This begs the question as to whether or not calling the "Eggman enemy" an enemy at all is justified. But, I don't have enough hard information to say anything more than what we have, and am just theorizing. Espritduo (talk) 21:33, May 22, 2013 (UTC)
Oh, and while I have your attention, I saw you added the "Can't Leap" thing to the dummied content of FFVI. I'm not sure if I understand what it is you're saying is dummied there, but the "Can't Leap" bit itself is not dummied. If you try to Leap when Gau is the only living party member, it will display that message and miss. Espritduo (talk) 21:46, May 22, 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for mentioning this, it completely slip out of my mind, I wanted to move this part to the monster formation section a while back. Got to move that to the right section. Now, the when Gau is alone part is used and that is related to the Leap command within the data, but what is not used is the "Can't Leap" bit related to monster formation, none of them are activated. I can change all WoR monster formations by activating the Can't Leap bit for them all (or all formation within the game if one so desired to). This would make Gau unable to leap the monsters found within those WoR monster formation, forcing it to miss regardless of how many teammates are present within the party during those battle on the Veldt. Since all those WoR monster formation would not be leapable, players would have a really hard time learning all those WoR monster Rages unless the player warps/runs away/etc from all non-WoR monsters and waits it out until the player encounters those WoR monsters and kills them, and then hope that Gau returns after the defeat of the WoR monsters. Developers[edit source]

  • Mu is a Tiny Mage
  • Riezo is an Alraune
  • Yoneji - Oh and hey, do you think we should have renders of all NPCs? Umm he's a Baron Marine.
  • Fujimo - Scarm first form.
  • Nakahara - Armor Construct
  • Takashi Tokita - Soul

That's all for the developers' office. As for Namingway, Flans refuse to hand over a Rainbow Pudding =( If I ever defeat Geryon and take a shot of it in the bestiary..As for white dragon, whatever you have planned for the dark dragon, do it because they're the same size and shape, the color's just different. When I fight the white dragon, I'll take an in-battle shot of it that you can use along with the bestiary one, just as what you said for the black dragon. I'll upload a Yang render. As for the final Zeromus, it'll take looooonger. Hey, if I ever buy the iOS version of FFVI (I know it'll come) later this year will you still be willing to do more enemy renders? Or if another user with FFVI iOS comes? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 07:36, May 23, 2013 (UTC)

File:Shadow Dragon ffiv ios.PNG

Best shot I can get.

This comes from the credits. The in-battle shot is too small to use.

Thanks for the developers. We'll need to create pages for them, since they only exist in the iOS version. I already have the Shadow Dragon as good as it's gonna get, and that new image isn't really any better. As for FFVI iOS, if it actually happens, I can't see them screwing with the enemy sprites like they did with FFV. You can't really do 2D sprites better than what FFVI has already done, so the iOS version I doubt will be any different. At least, I hope so. Making FFVI in the style of Dimensions like they did with FFV would be a crime. Espritduo (talk) 08:04, May 23, 2013 (UTC)
You're welcome. Yea, the DS staff is different from the iOS ones. No worries about the Shadow Dragon. Hmm, they might screw with the sprites, but this wiki will still need sprites of them, screwed or not, won't we? Dimensions' sprites were like FFIV Complete Collection. They're not bad, but I think they're blekh. So what do you think about FFIV NPC renders? And pleeeeeeeeease PNGify Palom and Porom's DS CG renders? I promise I'll do all the moving work...s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 09:00, May 23, 2013 (UTC)
As far as NPC's, I think it's a lot of work for nothing. I don't think every single thing in the entirety of FFIV needs captured and made into transparent PNG's, The only thing that we really needed were better enemy renders for the infoboxes. Everything else is fine the way it is. Espritduo (talk) 17:16, May 23, 2013 (UTC)

Quiz[edit source]

As you say, the Quiz is simply outdated, I made it back when Nael was called Zulvan and was assumed to be the antagonist of the main questline. I just changed the question to something different for XIV. Drake Clawfang (talk) 23:40, May 24, 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, I made a big mess on that, sorry. Espritduo (talk)

No problem. If you're in need of translators, does Ultimania translations, we source of lot of them here. Could talk to someone there. Tell them (this feels so shady :p) Drake Clawfang recommended them, I used to know people there before I left, if they know it's for the Wiki they may be more helpful. Drake Clawfang (talk) 00:04, May 25, 2013 (UTC)

Oh yeah, I know and they know me. I've been posting all my 25th Anni Ulti scans there, too. :P. They're swamped with translation obligations, though, and wouldn't be able to do any real large-scale translations beyond the stuff they've already got on their plate. I know the main translating members would do a few pages here and there if I asked them, but I feel bad putting more on them when I know they've got tons of stuff they're working on already. We really need some huge, internet-wide push to get all the Ultimania's translated. I'd whore it out on every site I'm a member of if I felt I was really ready to do it....but I'm not! I've dropped the ball on too many overly-ambitious projects already (you guys remember the FF500 project? I had quite a few FFwiki members on that), and I don't want to start something like this and get other people involved until I'm ready to see it through. At the moment, just scanning all the artwork is my primary goal. Espritduo (talk) 00:14, May 25, 2013 (UTC)
My God! That was you? I noticed you had edits here before you became a regular-- I didn't remember the name at all. :p 00:18, May 25, 2013 (UTC)
Yep, that was me...waaay back when. Site's still up, too. I'd say it's dead, but I did get a lot of really good fanart out of it. Some of my favorites, which are almost too good to believe, are Sabin and Chimera. Espritduo (talk) 00:28, May 25, 2013 (UTC)

FFIV Augments[edit source]

Hey Esprit, when you learn an augment, a portrait of a character pops up, right? Should we add in a column about that in the augment page of FFIV? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 14:24, May 25, 2013 (UTC)

Hmm...I think so...I barely remember those things - they really aren't important. If they're just little things, and you get images of all them, it might be something to spruce up the table, though. Espritduo (talk) 20:43, May 25, 2013 (UTC)
It is hard to get a shot of those portraits, they're so fast. But characters the augments are associated with...well...are you sure it's not important? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 08:58, May 26, 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, pretty sure it's not important. The little portraits would be nice to look at, but the information is, well, not very informative. They're just pictures of whoever's augment it is. Espritduo (talk) 16:34, May 26, 2013 (UTC)
All right, then, I guess..and hey, I have a shot of lucid K. Eblan without a body or head in the way. Up for it or is the current one we have fine? And when are we going to start putting those lovely renders in the infoboxes? (I hope no one minds me using them in my walkthrough for now..) s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 06:20, May 27, 2013 (UTC)
Nah, the one I have is fine. And I'll try and figure out how to replace all the DS images once I have everything in order. I'm still missing White Dragon, Flan Princess, Mopingway, and, if possible, something more for Dark Bahamut, final Zeromus, Geryon, and of course Proto-Babil. I'm willing to consider Dark Bahamut, Geryon and Proto-Babil lost causes, especially since we have some image of their iOS versions to work with, but there's no reason beyond gameplay difficulties that we can't have perfectly good shots of White Dragon, Flan Princess and Mopingway, and at least something for Zeromus, however bad it looks. Espritduo (talk) 07:23, May 27, 2013 (UTC)
Esprit, please don't consider Dark Bahamut a lost cause, I'll get him for us soon. I understand about Geryon, I think it will take me months to beat the thing, but if you're patient, we'll get it. As for Proto-Babil, we're waiting for Sasukekunai1. Hmm, about final Zeromus...maybe you can manage something between this and an in-battle shot..don't expect you can use the bestiary one though (I'll be uploading an in-battle one in a few weeks so don't forget about me yet.

I hate the FFIV designers.

And yes, White Dragon is coming in a few weeks. When I get to the final dungeon, I'll take a shot of those pink fluffy flans. Hmm...about Mopingway, it's really quite certain that I'm never going to get a Rainbow Pudding to fight him in Agart. I have a render from the credits you can use..s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 07:38, May 27, 2013 (UTC)

Hah, wow, that's a bad shot of Zeromus, isn't it? As for Mopingway, the purist in my insists that you take an in-battle screenshot of Mopingway, not a non-battle screenshot of Namingway, but the human being in me remembers trying to get those damn puddings to drop, and is willing to relent if the shot is good enough. You do have the Treasure Hunter augment that increases item drop rights, right? I know it's a pain in the ass to get, but if you've been diligent in filling out every map as you work through the game, it's not so hard. Espritduo (talk) 07:45, May 27, 2013 (UTC)
Yes, I know right =P I really hate whoever put those stat tables...hmm, no, I do not have the Treasure Hunter augment, I'm really sorry and I mean it. Well, still, I got a shot for you so take a look:

Espritduo, WHY YOU NO LIKE ME??!! Please like me.

Yea, I told you that the bestiary shots of Zeromus are abominations, and that we're better off taking in-battle shots. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 08:16, May 27, 2013 (UTC)

FFT[edit source]

Hey, hi! I'm the guy who asked about FFT's artwork last week! Sorry to bother again, but I don't know other regular editors, and I think you have some knowledge of japanese... well, the thing is: I found these concept art in a Tumblr, and the person sharing the images said they're from Matsuno's Tweeter. I couldn't read through his tweets, but it seems legit! The images are:

I don't know if it's relevant to the articles, or if there's more in Matsuno's Tweeter, but I'd like to share, anyway. Thanks! ~Lurker Dude

This is quite interesting, interesting indeed! There's actually a sprite of the second one (dark skin girl in pigtail) found within the game. You can find in on the Dummied Content article. I would like to know what's written below all three images so we can upload this stuff on the wiki. Fenrir9 (talk) 17:25, May 27, 2013 (UTC)
They look legit enough, and I found Matsuno's twitter which has the pics, so it seems like real Akihiko Yoshida artwork: The first one is Alma as a white mage, before they decided to make her Ramza's sister, the second one is called "Elegant Flier" and Matsuno doesn't even remember what the setting for that one was (:P), and the third one is a rough sketch of Izlude (It says Divine Knight in the parentheses, but he was a Lune/Rune Knight in the game, right?). Espritduo (talk) 22:26, May 27, 2013 (UTC)
Hey guys, thanks for the translation and the update in the article! I have one last question, because I don't know if it's still relevant to the Wiki. There's an artwork of Ramza and a "new" Gunner girl made by Yoshida, I think it was a gift to ultimate members of SQUARE-ENIX MEMBERS. I never saw a clean shot of the artwork, but here goes the best one I found:
Love that rifle lol! I dunno what is written under the image but maybe you guys could figure it! Thanks again!
I can't make out the writing at the bottom beyond it being Ramza and a Gunner from 2008 (around the time of War of the Lions?). I cleaned up the image though, if you want to use this: Ramza and Gunner 2008. Espritduo (talk) 22:32, May 29, 2013 (UTC)

Hey man[edit source]

Hey Esprit, I just wanted to say thanks for everything you've done and I love you, man. No homo. I'm not going to die yet either. Please do not let this message creep you out, I'm being sincere, I'm not trolling you. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 08:45, May 28, 2013 (UTC)

Trap Door[edit source]

Hey Esprit, was reading the FFIVDS strategy for Trap Door. It said that it will cast Target on a unit, then immediately (or on its next turn) it will cast Ninth Dimension on the unit it targeted. I've fought these doors a lot, and just wanted to ask whether it's just me or not. And if not, whether we should write a separate strategy section for the iOS version. Ehem, when I fought these doors, they cast Target on a unit, then if it's not yet dead, it will cast 9th dim. on a random unit, most often a unit that it didn't cast Target on. Halp? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 10:32, May 28, 2013 (UTC)

That is weird. The entire point of Target is to let you know who he's going to kill. I can't think of any reason it wouldn't work the same way as the other versions, unless it's bugged. The only thing I can think of is that you have Draw Attacks on someone and that is messing up the door's AI. Espritduo (talk) 10:35, May 28, 2013 (UTC)

In all my 1,2,3,4 runs of the Sealed Cave, Target really tells you nothing. Hmm...I'm on the Sealed Cave now, I'm gonna test it again. But if my previous observation is correct, are we going to write another section? Just to double-check, I'm going to ask Sasukekunai1 too. And have you seen the Namingway render I posted here that came from the credits? What do you think? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 12:50, May 28, 2013 (UTC)
Honestly, I don't like it. It shows Namingway in a pose he's never in during the battle, so it obviously can't even pretend to be the render of Mopingway. If it was just him in his regular standing pose I might be able to use it, but in that pose, it can't pass for Mopingway. Espritduo (talk) 12:53, May 28, 2013 (UTC)
Hmm, I can fix that for us shortly, he appears in the credits in his normal standing position too, I can take that then. I'm pretty sure that one would please you. Up for that? You should be because there is no way I am playing through what seems like the millionth time. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 13:17, May 28, 2013 (UTC)

Trap Doors[edit source]

SK1 said whoever got hit with Target also got hit by 9th dimension. I didn't have Draw Attacks, I swear XD Pay my last last message no heed. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 03:50, May 29, 2013 (UTC)

Final Fantasy X-2 Ultimania Omega Question[edit source]

Hey, I have a question regarding Final Fantasy X-2 Ultimania Omega: on the page 99, Yuna and Lulu are shown in the screenshots of a sphere cam record, but I don't know what the text to the left says: maybe you know? It seems to be recorded after Operation Mi'ihen. Really, I didn't notice them to earlier in my playthroughs of FFX-2.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) 12:36, May 30, 2013 (UTC)

It's Crimson Sphere 7, where Paine is running around panicking and asking where the others are during the aftermath of Operation Mi'ihen. The two images are highlighting the fact that during the recording you can catch a glimpse of Yuna and Lulu on the beach. Here's a youtube video of the sphere. If you look closely, you can see Yuna around 10 seconds in and Lulu around 13 seconds in. I didn't try to translate the entire wall of text next to the images, but I'm pretty sure that's what it's explaining. (also, I noticed your screenshot linking is messed up. I think you've been copy/pasting a typo. D'oh! I've been there.) Espritduo (talk) 12:44, May 30, 2013 (UTC)
Huh!? What I did where!? It's just that there are so many files on the Wiki than need categorisation clean-up, I don't know where to start.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) 12:51, May 30, 2013 (UTC)
The Calm Lands image, and the smattering of other images you re-categorized before. They have ]'s instead of }'s in places. And yeah, it's a mess out there. I don't even know why we have a it set up that Screenshot licensing goes to the Screenshots category. I would say 90% of those images in the Screenshot category are already correctly categorized in their own game's Screenshot category; it's just that any time someone puts Screenshot as the licensing without any piping, it ALSO categorizes it under general Screenshots. I wish it wouldn't do that. Espritduo (talk) 12:55, May 30, 2013 (UTC)
I was inputting them manually. Um, what? You say than adding a parameter to the {{Screenshot}} template while licensing images they they are categorised into both, proper Screenshots category and general Screenshots category? From a quick check of the template, adding the parameter moves it only to its specific Screenshots category and doesn't a duplicate into the general Screenshots category; I might as well wrongly interpretted you.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) 13:07, May 30, 2013 (UTC)
No, I mean when you don't add a parameter at all it goes to the general Screenshot category. Which makes sense on paper and seems common sense, but what you end up getting is a mountain of images in the Screenshot category. Most people don't know that you are supposed to add a game to the Screenshot licensing to put it in that game's specific category, or even are aware that you can do that at all, and just add the game's screenshot category separately, effectively adding it to both that game's screenshot category and the general Screenshot category.
As you said, there shouldn't be any images at all in the general Screenshot category. It would be better if licensing and categorizing were just kept separate, since it is not intuitive that they would be tied together in the first place. It's convenient for those who know, yes, but not intuitive. And when things aren't intuitive, you get train wrecks like the Screenshot category. Things that have the Screenshot license without a game attached should simply not be categorized beyond whatever categories the uploader assigns them separately, since the uploader isn't even aware they are categorizing something when they pick a license type.
On the other hand, looking at this...maybe it just plain doesn't really matter. I mean, every licensing type has its own category. We have over 40,000 images in the Fair Use category, and thousands in other categories. I guess we just have categories for everything, and some of them are going to be massive, disorganized messes. Espritduo (talk) 13:24, May 30, 2013 (UTC)

Hey[edit source]

Hey Esprit, I've got Dark Bahamut and White Dragon..and also the lovely Princess Flans. I'm going to upload a better bestiary shot of White Dragon (the in-battle one is unusable, just like the Dark Dragon). As for Dark Bahamut, someone's head is blocking some of the wing, but after what you're going to do it's going to look like the Bahamut one you did. As for the pretty Princess Flans, I've eaten 21 of them, I really want to get that Rainbow Pudding (I have about 30 Sirens in my inventory now just for that)....any ideas on how I can get them to drop one? So I can fight Mopingway. Oh yea, I've two weeks of freedom left. Going to start 48 hours after I type this message. Oh, and remember when you told me to remove a unit's equipment and abilities and see if their stats change or not? Well, I did it. Ooh just 48 more hours till you see everything.....s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 11:28, June 3, 2013 (UTC)

No easy way to get them to drop it. Getting the augment that increases drop rates by filling out every map is the only thing you can do to increase the odds. Espritduo (talk) 14:51, June 3, 2013 (UTC)

Just so you know, while going through the enemy pages, I noticed we're also missing Gorgon, Magma Tortoise, and Prokaryote. Odd. Espritduo (talk) 15:30, June 4, 2013 (UTC)

Really? Hmm, that's weird, I thought I went through them all. Maybe they weren't in my bestiary that case, I'll get to them soon. Umm and also, Princess Flan and the in-battle Dark Bahamut (plus a pose I would like to show you, but not use), and a better shot of the in-battle White Dragon's there. Don't ask me about the missing tail, it doesn't show in-game unlike with Dark Dragon =( P.S. I saw what you did to Shadow Dragon.... of course the changes are obvious to me, but it's awesome! s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 08:38, June 5, 2013 (UTC)

Licensing[edit source]

I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for telling me. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 09:32, June 5, 2013 (UTC)

Replacing the images[edit source]

Aww, you're replacing the DS enemy images. I know you're not having fun, so good luck. Mwahahahahaha. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 20:27, June 5, 2013 (UTC)

Nah, I'm already done. All DS images have been replaced with the iOS ones and marked as duplicates. Just need the last few missing enemies. Espritduo (talk) 20:30, June 5, 2013 (UTC)
Well, glad you're finished. Oh and yea, about Mopingway. I met the bunny in Agart and hit "No" when he asked if I had Rainbow Pudding. He disappeared, and is not on the house anymore. The next place to find him is the pub in the Dwarven Castle, right? But he's not there! What the hell do I do now?! (I have Prokaryote in the bestiary. Just finding Gorgon in the underworld now. After I do these things, I'll be able to take a shot of that fat crab. By the way, what else do we have missing?) And have you thought of something for Dark Bahamut yet? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 16:41, June 6, 2013 (UTC)
Fat crab? You mean Zeromus? And Dark Bahamut's done. The only enemies we still need now are Gorgon, Prokaryote, Magma Tortoise, Geryon, Proto-Babil, Zeromus final, and Mopingway. And Namingway/Puddingway should still be there if you didn't give him the pudding. To get him to move to the next location, you have to give him the pudding. He won't ever leave Agart unless you do. Go check again, you must have missed him. Espritduo (talk) 17:25, June 6, 2013 (UTC)

Yes, I meant Zeromus' second form. About Magma Tortoise, the bestiary one's too huge, I know you won't accept it with all the missing parts, so I'm off for an in-battle shot. Oh yea. About Geryon, you know when it zooms in in the beginning of the battle? I have some shots of those for you, see if you can piece together anything. As for the bunny, oh, silly me, I haven't talked to it yet in Troia XD XD XD s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 18:49, June 6, 2013 (UTC)

While looking into Namingway I read up on a glitch involving the Troia section with Cheatingway that makes it impossible to complete the sidequest - just make sure you do the entire Cheatingway portion without leaving Troia in between events to avoid the glitch. Espritduo (talk) 20:14, June 6, 2013 (UTC)
Something like that exists? Well, I didn't have any problems in the Troia pub sidequest, fortunately. Oh, remember what I promised?
Status ffiv ios 3.PNG
Status ffiv ios 4.PNG

I did it like you told me: no augments, no abilities, no equipment. Just random Items in the ability slots. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 13:09, June 7, 2013 (UTC)

What do you mean random items? If there's anything in your equipped augments, then you're probably getting something from them. I assume the stats are from them. Level with nothing on your augment list except the Item command. Espritduo (talk) 13:26, June 7, 2013 (UTC)
I told you, random items! In my ability slot, it's just Items - Phoenix Downs, Maiden's Kiss, etc... I didn't put a single ability or augment save for the Items, just as you said. I didn't equip any weapons or armor either.
Oh...and here are some things you should see.

A close-up.

Another shot.

s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 15:38, June 7, 2013 (UTC)
And I told you not to put anything on your augment list. You put something on it. Take the random items off, so that you have three blank spaces and the Item command, nothing else. Weapons and armor shouldn't have any effect on leveling. As for Geryon, if we could just get some kind of shot of the top part of his yellow horn things sticking out of his back, I might be able to get a solid composite image of him. Espritduo (talk) 16:02, June 7, 2013 (UTC)

Tsk, you really don't trust me, do you? I don't have ANYthing on the augment or ability list except the Items. And I put Phoenix Down, Maiden's Kiss, and so on, because you can't have an empty ability slot. Would you like me to take a screenshot of the ability screen too, so you'll see what I'm talking about? Or should I go as far as showing you a video of me doing it? Hmm, about Geryon, that would be a problem, because the yellow thingies don't show up anywhere anytime, because it's too long. Copy-paste or do something? I am looking forward to a Bestiary shot, though I believe it's going to be bad as the final Zeromus one I showed you. But who knows, maybe it's going to be of some use. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 16:14, June 7, 2013 (UTC)

I don't particularly trust you to do what I tell you the way I tell you to do it, no. To de-equip an ability and leave a blank space, simply select the ability's greyed-out name from the augment list. That will take it off your equipped augment list without putting something else in its place. As for Geryon, what about snapping a shot while he's doing an attack? Does he lean down at all during any of his animations? Espritduo (talk) 16:25, June 7, 2013 (UTC)
I knew you would say that. Har har har har har. It's all right, dude, it's not like you can personally oversee what I do. Augment list? What is that? Is that part of the menu? In the version I have, you equip and remove augments along with the normal ability yea, there are five slots for the abilities, right? You have to include both your augments and your normal abilities like, say, Pray or Aim, in those five slots...ooh, another version difference! But anyway, an ability slot cannot be left empty. Hmm...yea, Geryon might do that. Let me climb Mt. Ordeals again and see. But not before I consume all my 99 Sirens to get a Pink Tail and Rainbow Pudding. (Is that a great idea?) s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 16:44, June 7, 2013 (UTC)
Your augments are your abilities. It's the same thing. There's a list of them. That's how you select what to put on your equipped abilities/augments list. When selecting the ability to equip from the list, you will see on the list the greyed out name of whatever is currently being selected to replace. Select the greyed-out name and it will remove that ability from your equipped ability list. I can't really explain it any simpler than this. Espritduo (talk) 17:05, June 7, 2013 (UTC)
I am sorry that you took the time and effort and energy to type all that (unless you copy-pasted from somewhere). I really wish I could teleport my ipod touch to your hands and let you see for yourself that the iOS version is really very different, so what you just typed out or copy-pasted isn't something I can apply. In more realistic terms, I should do a clear video showing you how the hell the iOS ability menu works. And I promise it won't look like vomit this time. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 20:55, June 7, 2013 (UTC)
I am very interested in seeing a video of the menu screen in action, since I find it just as hard to believe that the iOS version would somehow remove the ability to de-equip augments from the equipped augment list as I do that that iOS version would somehow change the way the leveling system works past 70. There's just no reason for such a thing to be the case. Espritduo (talk) 21:19, June 7, 2013 (UTC)

I hope all our misunderstandings and confusion will be cleared up as you set your eyes on the future video. I promise to get it done in a few days. Would you like a commentary as well? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 21:33, June 7, 2013 (UTC)

All I need to see is how the ability screen is set up. Commentary isn't really necessary. Espritduo (talk) 21:36, June 7, 2013 (UTC)

Oh, and about the augments thing. You mean there's a limit to how much augments a character can learn? In the iOS version, you can learn as much augments as you like, but you can equip only a select few, two or three, depends on how many normal, non-augment abilities you have equipped. Oh yea, you can put augments in any of the five slots, but there are specific slots where normal, none-augment abilities can't be placed in. Whew, saves me work, then. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 21:39, June 7, 2013 (UTC)

There's no limit to how many augments a person can learn, but you can only actively equip for battle up to four, not including the requisite Item command. And I rechecked the DS version and I was mistaken on how to remove abilities - you just select the blank space at the bottom of the list to remove an ability. What you're describing would completely change the entire balance of the gameplay if it were true, though. I can assure you - you can change, swap, and remove any ability or augment you like, except for Item. Things like Attack, Jump, White Magic, whatever, can all be moved and removed. It would be unbelievable if the iOS version forced you to use the character's basic innate abilities over whatever augments you felt like using. I really feel like there is a massive black hole between what I am talking about and what you are talking about. The video should be illuminating, to say the least. Espritduo (talk) 23:34, June 7, 2013 (UTC)

Massive Black Hole[edit source]

Yes, there is a massive black hole, and I can't help but laugh at our predicament. And yes, I'm currently uploading to YT the video that will exterminate that black hole we don't like. I knew from the first time you dropped a message on my talk page that we would have headaches trying to understand each other and getting along. And the video. (It's the whole Menu, by the way, not just the ability slots.) Oh, I have to clarify one thing, you can have empty ability slots (I'm sorry, I didn't see that before, and yes, it's a blank space). About the ability slots. For the first slot, you can have anything there - augment or innate ability. Second's the same, third's the same, fourth and fifth are the same. So you can put augments anywhere. Hmm...wait, I have "Attack - Pray - Aim" on the first three slots, but I can't put White Magick in the fifth one. It can go on the fourth, though. The number of augments and abilities you put on decides whether you can change a some certain slots or not, I've noticed that - I tried different combinations on different units. And yes, I can't remove the item command, but I can move it. I give up. Unless I can cast teleport on my ipod touch and have you examine the menu yourself. The video won't answer all my and your questions, but at least it will answer some of yours. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 08:20, June 8, 2013 (UTC)

Ugh, forget the video now. What you just said is exactly what I've been telling you the whole time. You just said that you can remove abilities and leave blank spaces, and can equip whatever abilities you want wherever you want, except for Item. How is that any different than I what I've been trying to say from the start? So do what you just said you can do and remove all abilities, only leaving the Item command by itself and see what happens when you level up. Espritduo (talk) 09:57, June 8, 2013 (UTC)
I know I've been just repeating what you were trying to tell me. You know what? Please watch the video. There are some cases where you can't equip abilities wherever you want. And do you now believe me that I took off every augment and ability except for Item and saw that the characters level up as usual? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 10:35, June 8, 2013 (UTC)
No. I believe that you equipped a bunch of random items instead of blank spaces because that is what you said you did, which would completely invalidate the entire experiment. And obviously you can't equip abilities over top of the Item command, since it can't be removed. Otherwise, you can do whatever you want. Espritduo (talk) 11:01, June 8, 2013 (UTC)
Yea, you can have Items on any slot you want. You can only replace the items command if you put a second on another slot, so the original slot can switch for another ability or augment. Yes, finally. If I'm so intent on proving to you that level up is still normal even after level 70, why would I waste my time giving you wrong information when I can easily give you correct, valid information? Hmm? Now that I've discovered the blank spaces, I did it again. But back to the random items you're saying. You're telling me that sundries like Maiden's Kiss or Phoenix Downs have stat increases, then? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 11:25, June 8, 2013 (UTC)
Apparently so. That is what we are here to find out. And why would you give me wrong information when you could easily give me correct information? That's what I've been asking myself since we started this pointless exercise, since that's basically all you've done. I feel like I'm stuck in that "Who's on first?" skit. Just give me a screenshot, or better yet, a video showing a character level up with nothing but Item on them. If the iOS level up screen is the same as the DS, it actually shows what stats are increased right on the battle screen when you level up. If it isn't, then a video showing the ability and stat screens before, then the leveling up, then the screens afterwards would suffice. Espritduo (talk) 11:45, June 8, 2013 (UTC)
And that's what I did the second time! I showed you two screenshots, but in-menu, not in-victory screen!!!! I know, this is getting nowhere. And about the stats screen. Yes, you can see it in-battle, but why go through all the trouble of letting the unit fight without abilities when you can just take it off during the menu - take a screenshot of a character in the status menu after removing all the abilities except items. Level him up. Remove everything except items. Take a screenshot of the new stats. That's why all I could do was give you two screenshots with the character having nothing but the Items command, then when he levels up, take a screenshot of the new level!!! What do you think I was doing, dude? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 12:14, June 8, 2013 (UTC)
Wait, are you re-equipping the Augments between screenshots? Because that's not what Esprit wants. You have to not have anything but Item equipped when you level up. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 12:18, June 8, 2013 (UTC)
You already said those screenshots were from when you had random items equipped, and you're STILL implying that you have random items equipped during the battle they level up in. I'm done with this. Someone much more reliable has already confirmed that your information is wrong on the gameFAQ's message board for the iOS version, so I really have no more reason or patience to keep going with this. I have no idea what you are doing, but it is wrong, and stats do not increase naturally past level 70 in the iOS version. Espritduo (talk) 12:22, June 8, 2013 (UTC)
:3 Psst, what did he say exactly? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 12:40, June 8, 2013 (UTC) Espritduo (talk) 12:43, June 8, 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, Esprit ^__^........WAIT. (I'm not really convinced.) Anyways, I was reading the post the guy linked - it said ???'s Love was there on iOS? How can that be, when Whyt and his minigames do not exist in the iOS remake? Exactly how? The house in Feymarch was supposed to be Whyt's house in the DS remake, right? And after defeating Bahamut, you can fetch the Piercing Magic augment there. But in the iOS version, it's different - that house belongs to a nameless eidolon, who asks you to find his eight eidolon friends for him, then if you complete the Eidolon search sidequest, that's when he'll give you the piercing magic augment. Back to the main point, how does the ???'s Love augment exist in the iOS version? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 13:19, June 8, 2013 (UTC)
Well, considering the Love Augment is gotten from the Namingway sidequest and not Whyt, all that needs to change is how it is powered up. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 13:30, June 8, 2013 (UTC)
A little more digging on gameFAQ's and it seems ????'s Love is now powered up by covering someone in battle. Espritduo (talk) 13:45, June 8, 2013 (UTC)
I wonder why they decided to remove Whyt and the minigames, what's the point... Maybe because there was no DS stylus. But that isn't enough reason, is it? Anyway. Esprit, link pleaaaseeeee s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 13:50, June 8, 2013 (UTC) Espritduo (talk) 13:53, June 8, 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. I was digging deeper - I read that post about the differences. I was the one who wrote "greatly abridged script" in this wiki's differences page, and it's true (call me immature, but a comment said the "greatly abridged script" on the FFWiki page was a false claim). The differences page says that in the DS version, there was information about "Zemus' desire for the Lunarians to populate Earth". I've watched the iOS cutscenes a lot for the screenshots, and I never caught anything about that - I wanted to ask exactly where and when in the DS version was that piece of script found? And I'll go ahead and note that cover charging up in the augments page too ^_^ EDIT: Nevermind, it's added...s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 14:03, June 8, 2013 (UTC)

Jump and Geryon's Horns[edit source]

Hey Esprit, I just wanted to ask you something about the boss fight with Golbez in the DS version (I was reading this wiki's DS strategy). Does Jumping Kain really make him avoid the instant kill? I mean, I used Hide on one of my units, and Golbez never started the second phase until all my units were there. Jump makes Kain disappear from the battlefield, which is like Hide. Or not. How did you beat Golbez? ....And I have an idea for Geryon's yellow thingies. You know when a boss is defeated and it melts down the ground? That's the only view where the horns are fully visible. Would that work for you? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 20:17, June 10, 2013 (UTC)

Making Kain jump at just the right time works for avoiding Black Fang. I've used it in low-level speedruns to great effect. I've never actually tried it in the DS version, though, but I don't see why it would be any different. And if you can get any kind of shot of Geryon's horns, I'll take it. Espritduo (talk) 21:03, June 10, 2013 (UTC)
Kain should still auto-dodge if airborne, but I think Golbez acts too fast in FFIVDS to pull it off. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 21:34, June 10, 2013 (UTC)
SCM, I was thinking the same thing. I've fought Golbez thrice in my second playthrough just to try the Jump thing. If Golbez isn't Slowed in the first phase, he's going to act after the whole party has been given their four turns, whether they were used or not. One of my trials had Kain jumping on his first turn (no Slow on Golbez), but he came back before the script starts. I've tried Slow, but it became even more messier. So when is the "right time" for him to jump, then, if it actually works in the DS version? I was thinking of having Kain Jump, then a unit Hide, then when Kain's safe, have the Hidden unit come back again, since Golbez won't start Black Fang if one of your units use Hide. That way, Kain's safe..I think. Never tried it yet. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 09:20, June 11, 2013 (UTC)

More of Matsuno Twitter Posts[edit source]

Sorry to bother you again Espritduo, one of my friends send me info via e-mail about Matsuno and his twitter concerning FFT. I want to post this info on the wiki, but a few names I can't translate. Would you be able to translate them for me when you have the time. I got the gist of it from reading his post, please correct it if something is wrong or admist or word it better since this info should be on the wiki on the Knights Templar article.

There was originally suppose to be 12 Knights Templar that was created for the game. In the end, only a few didn't make the cut for the retail version and those that made the cut had their age change because the story and setup were change as well to fit for the final product. The names are; アルフレド(29♀); バロミディス(23♂); カルデュイノ(30♂); リュネット(28♂) - Lunette?.

Sources:, (talk) 02:29, June 11, 2013 (UTC)

Hmm, well any translation I give would be my interpretation of the kana, but the first one is "Arufuredo" in romaji, which sounds like Alfred/Alfredo, but it says the name is for a girl, so I dunno. The second one is "Baromidisu", which sounds like Baromedes, and is possibly meant to be Palamedes, an Arthurian knight. The third one is "Karudyuino" which could be Caladin, the sword of Cuchulainn, although that's a little shaky. The last one is "Ryunetto", which could be Lunette, as you say. Espritduo (talk) 03:13, June 11, 2013 (UTC)
Hmm, okay I'll just leave them as romaji since I'm also leaving the kana in there for those that would want them. Thanks you very much. Fenrir9 (talk) 04:20, June 11, 2013 (UTC)

Easy and Hard HPs, and enemy HPs[edit source]

Esprit, I've told you before that in the iOS version, there's easy and hard mode, and the HP changes, right? Would it be safe to assume that the Hard HPs are from the DS version (I was looking at the enemy infoboxes), and the easy HPs come from the non-DS versions? You know, so the iOS section of the enemy infoboxes can be written? And also, how is it that the wiki has the boss HPs? The only enemy you can Libra/Bestiary is Golbez, right? So how? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 09:24, June 11, 2013 (UTC)

From what I've read, I believe the hard mode is the original DS version, and the "normal" mode is really FFIVDS easy mode. As for boss HP, strategy guides have all the info we need for all the enemy stats. Espritduo (talk) 13:00, June 11, 2013 (UTC)
What, the DS version has an easy mode as well? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 13:56, June 11, 2013 (UTC)
No, I mean the normal mode of the iOS is easy compared to the normal mode of the DS version, which is now the "hard" mode of iOS. Espritduo (talk) 14:05, June 11, 2013 (UTC)
Well, I expected the "hard" mode of the iOS to be from the "normal" mode of the DS version - the differences page said that the DS enemies were much more harder. So where are we getting the iOS HPs (there are two of them for each enemy)? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 14:36, June 11, 2013 (UTC)
Nowhere. There are no guides for the iOS version, so there's nowhere to get the info except from the game itself. Espritduo (talk) 15:26, June 11, 2013 (UTC)
I can Libra the normal enemies, there's no problem with that. But the bosses can't be Libraed and there are no guides, so we have to leave them blank, then? Wait, how do the guides know the HP, anyway? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 16:53, June 11, 2013 (UTC)
Because the guides are made by Square-Enix, or commissioned by them when they're not. Espritduo (talk) 18:31, June 11, 2013 (UTC)
.___. I just hope they'll make a guide for iOS too...s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 18:58, June 11, 2013 (UTC)
They won't. No cell-phone game has ever gotten a guide, and they never will. It's not worth the money to do so, especially in the case of FFIV where the iOS version is 99% identical to the DS version. Espritduo (talk) 20:49, June 11, 2013 (UTC)
I know, and it's sad. Hey, what about hacking? And by the way, I've seen Optic Blaster's page. It's a dummied-out enemy, so how do I fight it? I mean, we need a render of it, right? I've got Prokaryote and Magma Tortoise, too, I'll upload them tomorrow. And about Gorgon. Exactly where is that creature in the Underworld? North, south, east, west, where? I've been looking everywhere! She (or it) doesn't appear! s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 21:38, June 11, 2013 (UTC)
Don't worry about Optic Blaster. It's a dummied enemy that isn't even in the game, and might not even be in the iOS code at all (although I bet it is). The fact that we even have the hacked DS image of it is pretty surprising, honestly. Gorgon is on that tiny stretch of land on the far western edge of the underworld where you fight different enemies from the regular kind. Espritduo (talk) 23:34, June 11, 2013 (UTC)
Why is it surprising? Oh, and Gorgon, you mean that area around the Sylph Cave, then? Along with the enemies like Caterpillar and Hellflapper? Ehhhh...I had a hunch it was there. >__< Aaaand Prokaryote and Magma Tortoise's in. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 08:18, June 12, 2013 (UTC)

FFIV Character Renders[edit source]

I know we've been talking about this for ages - but would you prefer to have the FFIV character renders from iPOD or iPAD? I wanted to verify with you again. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 12:57, June 14, 2013 (UTC)

I think I said that I prefer to not have the character renders at all. I don't think we need them that badly. It was only the enemy images that were in dire need of upgrading. Espritduo (talk) 13:27, June 14, 2013 (UTC)
Oh, is that what you said. Are you sure? The DS ones are really small, and it's such a waste not to use the upgraded ones from the iOS. It's not much difference in size, but in quality it is. Monterossa has FFIV for iPAD which is worlds bigger, but I heard that in PNG smaller size is better than a bigger one. And whether or not we need the in-game character renders, I also planned to have petrified renders, toad and mini renders too. I know they're not that important, but it won't hurt to have them - they would be really good additions to the status and character galleries. When I get all these in order, you'll be the one I'm going to ask for transparency. If you agree, that is. If not, then it's fine. And I'm also uploading all NPCs from FFIV iOS, I saw what Pmbarbieri did with an NPC dragoon, I think the pages could really use them. There are some FFIV pages with NPC sprites too, so..s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 14:05, June 14, 2013 (UTC)
II told you I don't think we need any more renders, or images from the iOS version at all for that matter. I won't be doing ten thousand more transparencies for this. I did the enemies, and that's all I am going to do. I have to put my foot down at some point, because it seems you're just going to keep asking for more and more and more until every single pixel of the entirety of FFIV iOS is uploaded onto this wiki. I've spent an unbelievable amount of time with this already, and have other things I need to get done, both wiki-related and not. So, please, just get the remainder of the enemies uploaded, and let that be the end of it, at least as far as I'm concerned. Espritduo (talk) 14:35, June 14, 2013 (UTC)

You don't have to care about the NPC transparencies, since I will. I think SsorceniviD just wanted to ask for advice about the format of the files, and if PNG files are better than JPG (which are, in my opinion), that's all. --Pmbarbieri (talk) 14:52, June 14, 2013 (UTC)

Definitely PNG format for any kind of photoshopping work, since they are uncompressed. JPG's are compressed files, and introduce artifact distortions into the image that make it difficult to work with. Espritduo (talk) 15:23, June 14, 2013 (UTC)
Yea, Pmbarbieri's right....I just wanted to ask about the PNG thing, whether a bigger file (shots from iPAD) or a smaller file (shots from iPOD) would be better. It's my fault, I was being so indirect and I wasn't really getting to the point. So please chill. Sorry Esprit, it looks like we will never really understand each other. And no, I don't actually intend to bug you to death, so I assure you, you will be rid of me very soon. So yea, rejoice. I'm not a fan of work either, so please stop exaggerating. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 15:47, June 14, 2013 (UTC)

Butterflies[edit source]

It doesn't look like I'm gonna get a response on the page I originally went ot, so I'm coming to the person who I reckon may be able to help me :) I've posted a message here as I noticed the current image scan we have as a guide for the hunt isn't consistent with what I was finding. The guide is Japanese, which makes me think the game was altered for english release, so I'm wondering if you have the FFX guide and would be able to check? My own got lost somewhere years ago. I know you're an owner of Ultimanias and I don't know if you have any general guides, but thought I should ask anyway to make sure. Tia-LewiseRydia - Young battle.png 17:57, June 23, 2013 (UTC)

There are two different versions of both puzzles. The screenshot you've crossed over is the original, and your suggested placements are the one done later in the game. JBed (talk) 18:19, June 23, 2013 (UTC)

Gilgamesh[edit source]

Do any of your art books or such mention Gilgamesh's FFXII incarnation using two Tournesols as references to Excalibur and Excalipoor? His page says that but I dunno if it's official. Drake Clawfang (talk) 00:51, June 27, 2013 (UTC)

The two swords that look like the Tournesol that Gilgy 12 uses are his replica versions of the Excalibur and Excalipoor. The one with the sun face is his fake Excalibur and the one with the moon face is his fake Excalipoor (which apparently is more effective than the real one, since I don't think it does 1 damage :P). These are a reference to the Excalibur and Excalipoor of FFV, whose artwork depicts them just like that, with a sun on the Excalibur and a moon on the Excalipoor. Here's the info from the FFXII Scenario Ultimania. Espritduo (talk) 01:15, June 27, 2013 (UTC)
Awesome, thanks. Though, what does it say for the Wyrmhero Blade too? Drake Clawfang (talk) 01:19, June 27, 2013 (UTC)
It just says that it is the sword that was left behind by Gilgamesh and then implies that its motif is based on a sword seen in Dragon Quest I-III. Nothing new there, I think. Espritduo (talk) 01:55, June 27, 2013 (UTC)
Nope, was just wondering if it said it was a fake, the Wyrmhero models I found were all the same so I assumed Gilgy had the real deal. Thanks. Drake Clawfang (talk) 01:59, June 27, 2013 (UTC)
Actually, it doesn't say anything about it being fake, like the others, so I assume it is real. I believe it was the weapon he was in the mines looking for to begin with, right? All the others have names combined with the word "replica" like Orihalreplica" or "Buster Replica" or "Gunbleplica" (sounds better in Japanese, heh), and their descriptions state that they are all replicas of the real thing, but the Wyrmhero Blade does not. Espritduo (talk) 02:13, June 27, 2013 (UTC)

Zeromus[edit source]

Hey Esprit~

Zeromus. I was thinking about what you did for King Eblan's leg ages ago, the way you copied a portion of the leg and pasted it on the covered part of his lucid form. I have two shots to show you..

His head is covered, but the defeat screen is the only shot that can show his lower body

We can actually have a full shot of Zeromus (excluding his left claws) if you're willing to do the work. To show the normally covered parts, I can have Kain Jump and switch the rows, like

But if you don't want to do the work or if you don't have time, then tell me what you have in mind. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 09:19, June 30, 2013 (UTC)

We're still missing the top of his head, and the portions of his body covered by party members will be problematic. Isn't there some way to get his top part? Like when he's defeated and fades and falls? Espritduo (talk) 18:04, June 30, 2013 (UTC)
Also, we're still missing the Gorgon enemy and a proper shot of Mopingway. Espritduo (talk) 18:09, June 30, 2013 (UTC)
I will definitely get a shot when he fades and falls. About the party members covering him, I told you, I can use Hide or have Kain Jump and switch the people's positions so we can see all the covered parts, then you'll stick them just like how you did K. Eblan. Or at least that's what I have in mind. Oh, yea..damn, we are still missing that. I'll check in my other data if Gorgon's in the bestiary. As for Mopingway, I'm still hopeless with the Pink flans. Trying hard though, don't worry, I will get that damn pudding. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 07:43, July 1, 2013 (UTC)

FF12[edit source]

Do you have the guides for FF12? Specifically, I'm wondering if the weapons of the Espers and Judges have names, I know Gabranth has the Chaos Blade and Highway Star so maybe others got names too. Drake Clawfang (talk) 04:57, July 4, 2013 (UTC)

I looked around in the FFXII Ultimanias and the 20th and 25th Anniversary Ultimanias and I don't see any mention of names for any of their weapons. I feel like they should have names since Gabranth's do (although I can't find any mention of his weapons being called the Chaos Blade and Highway Star in those books, either), and since they are very distinctive looking weapons, but the books don't talk about the weapons at all. The concept artwork of the judges and their weapons is all there is. Espritduo (talk) 06:11, July 5, 2013 (UTC)
Maybe you could shed some light Espritduo, I've been using this link for Japanese names of NPC's weapon. There's even the names of the Judge's weaponry, etc. Chaos Blade and Highway Star are mentioned too. Just did a quick check on Chaos Blade article, the name is taken from within the FF12バトルアルティマニア on page 27. Do you happen to have this book? Maybe this is where all these NPC's name of weaponry came from. I would like to know if these weapons are fan-named or official names. Link for NPC weapons article:
Hmm, it does list the Chaos Blade and Highway Star on that page (it's the FFXII Battle Ultimania), but that section only deals with the stats and equipment of guest characters, so the judges aren't mentioned there. I have no idea where they got those names from honestly. I want to believe they're legit, and maybe they have names in the game code, but if they're in the Ultimanias I don't know where. Espritduo (talk) 19:22, July 6, 2013 (UTC)

Help?[edit source]

Hey Esprit, do you have any idea how to get the final battle bg? It's moving, there's no victory screen to use, and Zeromus is too gigantic. And how are you going to do Zeromus' render by the way? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 18:30, July 6, 2013 (UTC)

Nope, no idea how you'd go about getting that background. And I can't really do anything with Zeromus until I get a good enough shot(s) to work with. So far, there really isn't anything I can do that would be better than what we've already got. Espritduo (talk) 19:24, July 6, 2013 (UTC)

Hey~[edit source]

I re-uploaded Mopingway...that better be usable now. And Esprit, how many playthroughs of FFIV did you do? You know that part with Kain in the ending, in the first playthrough his hair was shown, then in the second we can see him front-view and helmetless chin, what's the third going to show? (if you know) And I looked through the enemy HPs of the easy mode - they're the same with the DS version - Goblin is 30 and Tiny Mage is 50. So, does that mean that the Hard version of the iOS is harder than the DS one? There's only one mode in DS, right? And when are the FFIV enemy templates getting an iOS section? Months ago, I recall most of us agreed. And I was able to steal Dark Matter - which leads me - I couldn't steal it in his blue form, I was able to get it in his red crab form. I'm writing this in the Dark Matter page. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 12:59, July 15, 2013 (UTC)

I wasn't aware of any change in Kain in the ending. And the hard mode for the iOS is the normal (and only) mode for the DS version. Weak enemies like Goblins and Tiny Mages might not get any decrease in HP for the normal mode since they are already so weak to begin with. And we'll get an iOS section when it's worth making one and someone feels like doing it. Seeing as there really isn't much difference between iOS and DS enemies beyond the normal mode/hard mode stats, it's gonna be hard for anyone to drum up the motivation to sit down and do it. And when you say you couldn't steal it in his blue form, do you mean you weren't able to because you quit trying or because it said there wasn't anything to steal?

And no, that's not Mopingway, so I don't really want it. If and when you get the Rainbow Pudding and actually fight Mopingway, that will be the shot I approve of. And how bout that Gorgon? It's still the only regular enemy we're missing. Espritduo (talk) 19:03, July 15, 2013 (UTC)

As for Kain, I'm uploading a screenshot of that. Hmm, well, okay, I'll look at the other enemies and compare the two modes. If I knew how to do the coding for the enemy tables, it would be already done - the only thing we have to add are the HPs, right? Then we can copy the rest from the DS version? No, I didn't quit trying, I told you, I GOT THE DARK MATTER. In his blue form, the chances of success said 0%, but I still tried, and it said "couldn't steal". I tried in his red crab form and yes that was when I was able to steal it. Okay, guess I can't really do anything about Mopingway - don't worry, I'm still trying with the pudding. I've been looking for Gorgon for ages. I have data for the third playthrough and I'll try my luck there if I can. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 07:23, July 16, 2013 (UTC)

Woot! Thanks everyone! Espritduo (talk) 18:30, July 19, 2013 (UTC)

Hey Espreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet congraaaaaaaaats~ Umm, hey dude, in the third playthrough, does Namingway really not appear? He's not in the West Tower of Baron Castle and the Music Box can be accessed....and what's with the augments? I didn't give Edward any augment in this playthrough, but I received all three from him! s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 15:49, July 20, 2013 (UTC)
Namingway will be where you left him on his sidequest on the previous playthrough. Augments carry over from previous playthroughs, so if I remember right that means Edward will have everything he had from before, and will give you all his augments because of that. Espritduo (talk) 19:08, July 20, 2013 (UTC)
Oh god, why did I even bother to give them augments...s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 08:54, July 21, 2013 (UTC)

Statue of the Gods[edit source]

It's long been fan theory that's based on the Divine Comedy, does the Ultimania you got the art from say anything about that? Drake Clawfang (talk) 19:55, July 21, 2013 (UTC)

Nah, the little blurb next to the artwork just describes the basic premise of the battle and its general appearance, ie the changing parties, changing BGM, stuff like that. It doesn't go into any inspirations it was based on unfortunately. Espritduo (talk) 22:50, July 21, 2013 (UTC)
Damh :( Thanks for checking Drake Clawfang (talk) 23:30, July 21, 2013 (UTC)

Cagnazzo Water Form[edit source]

I noticed that in Cagnazzo's enemy page, every version but the DS version has a shot of his form when he's charging up Tsunami. I got a usable shot of it - we need it, right? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 14:02, July 22, 2013 (UTC)

If you have one, that's great. I believe the problem we had with his DS water form screenshot was that Tellah or Yang or someone's head was in the way, so it never got used. Espritduo (talk) 19:49, July 22, 2013 (UTC)
That was the shell form. Well anyways..

If it weren't for the salty water, he'd make a really good washing machine..

s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 07:32, July 23, 2013 (UTC)

Sorry for doing that but the images just appeared too large when I viewed them on their page, I don't know why that happened but sorry.24DACL (talk) 20:29, July 25, 2013 (UTC)

Zeromus[edit source]

I did something with Zeromus....just need transparency but I don't know how to do that. Want to see it? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 15:46, July 26, 2013 (UTC)

Sure, let's see it. Espritduo (talk) 21:02, July 26, 2013 (UTC)

Amano art[edit source]

Hi, hello again (I'm that lurker lol)! I found this pic in NeoGaf (seems legit, really) and I'd like to know if it made to any book, because in the picture the art is framed! Here:

Thank you! :D

Definitely not in any book, and it's very unusual to see two FF characters from different games in the same piece. Amano never does that except for the two Dissidia ones or the 25th Anniversary one, which both feature characters from the entire series, not just two random ones like Zidane and Terra. But it certainly looks legit, and if I had to guess I would guess he did it for the recent Amano artshow that was held in Tokyo back in May. Total guess, but I can't imagine why or when else he would have done it. Would you mind linking to the neogaf thread it was in? Espritduo (talk) 20:29, July 27, 2013 (UTC)

Sure! Here it goes:
Thanks for your insight!
Yep, I actually found the thread by googling the image. I'm going to post there to try and see if the guy knows where that image is from. It seems like it might be from the same place as the dragon-riding Terra above it, which I am aware of, but have never seen in any book, either. This is the perfect opportunity to find out just where these suckers come from! Espritduo (talk) 20:48, July 27, 2013 (UTC)
Awesome! xD

Right Direction[edit source]

Right Direction, okay. Well I do have a shot of its head, but it's faded and even if I adjust the contrast or something, it doesn't blend in. Do you want to continue the head part yourself? I can definitely do the left claws. But if you don't want to continue the head part just tell me what the hell I should do then. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 04:00, July 28, 2013 (UTC)

Honestly, if we can't get a whole shot of him, we're better off with what the wiki already has. Unlike the really crappy previous versions of most DS enemies that we had, Zeromus's isn't all that bad, and I can live with it if it's the best complete shot we can get. Espritduo (talk) 04:31, July 28, 2013 (UTC)
Fine, fine! I'll make sure we get a complete iOS shot of it. Don't worry. 'Cause I can't live with that DS Zeromus shot, unlike you. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 06:49, July 28, 2013 (UTC)

Halp...[edit source]

Hey dude..stayed up late trying to beat damn Geryon...I was nearly done, then he used Inferno then everything was over T___T In this playthrough, I don't have Focus or Darkness augments (even if I did have Focus I wouldn't really risk it), I have a Cursed Ring on Rosa but it doesn't absorb shit, and no Adamant Armor since those Flans are uncooperative. Any idea on how I can beat it? No matter how insane or crazy it is, I'll listen! s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 14:33, July 31, 2013 (UTC)

Cursed Rings by themselves don't do anything. They turn other equipment's elemental resistance to elemental absorption. So to absorb all elements you would need a Cursed Ring and an Adamant Armor together. Cursed Ring and individual elemental equipment can work too, like Cursed Ring and Ice Armor to absorb Inferno. Throw in a Flame Shield and you're absorbing two elements now. Add in a Diamond Helm or Gold Hairpin and you're absorbing all three. Dragon equipment is a good substitute for Adamant Armor since it halves all three elements as well. The Crystal Helm halves all three elements too. Even without a Cursed Ring, elemental equipment will still cut the damage in half, which is better than nothing. Really, that's the main trick to beating Geryon - getting around his elemental attacks with elemental equipment. Espritduo (talk) 17:27, July 31, 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, dude. All of the above is noted. But, is there any way for Edge to absorb/halve anything? He can't equip armor or shields, right? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 07:59, August 1, 2013 (UTC)
Hm, well everyone can equip the Adamant Armor. Besides that, Edge can make use of the Protect Ring, which halves Fire, Ice, and Lightning, but can't be combined with the Cursed Ring for absorption, obviously. That's really all you can do for him. Espritduo (talk) 08:17, August 1, 2013 (UTC)
I totally forgot! Well, he can't equip shields. Okay, I think I got the elemental problem fixed (or decreased, at least), any advice on dealing damage? I had Rydia Dualcast Meteor every turn, spamming it, actually, but only a few of Edge's Throw stuff actually hits (I lose the Fuma Shurikens a lot), Ultima is very hard to pull off, and Kain and Cecil's attacks miss 45% of the time...halp? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅
This is the Kain thing in the ending.

Romaji Help[edit source]

Do you happen to know what Ribinguumu translate into English? I found a FFA list of projectiles that can be block, and Ribinguumu is one of them. Fenrir9 (talk) 13:29, August 4, 2013 (UTC)

Just from the kana, I can't really say. It looks like Living (ribingu) something. Umu? No clue. If it was aamu, I might hazard Living Arm. I'd need more context to try and see what they were going for. What other projectiles are on the list? I tried doing a quick search of FFA things, and didn't see anything that jumped out at me. Espritduo (talk) 19:41, August 4, 2013 (UTC)
The website I got the info from: . Scroll down to the bottom of the page is where all the shields are located. Well, the translator Sheexy stated on the following page that he had a hard time translating Ribinguumu: . The site admin Sheexy is still active in the forums, contact could be made for asking him/her about the original Japanese word. Fenrir9 (talk) 10:32, August 5, 2013 (UTC)
Hmmmmmm....I'm stumped. >_< From what I can tell by searching around the nets, the projectile info was taken from the map insert found in the manual from the Japanese version of the game. But what on earth Ribinguumu might be referring to is totally lost on me. Sorry I can't be of more help. Espritduo (talk) 11:23, August 5, 2013 (UTC)

Opinion please[edit source] s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 08:22, August 8, 2013 (UTC)

That page is for the Darkness skillset, not the Darkness attack itself. FFIV does not have an entire skillset for the Dark Knight, just that one attack, so FFIV's Darkness has no place on that page. There is already a page specifically for the Darkness attack, which does have FFIV's Darkness ability listed. I believe the FFIV section on that page is where Tia should put the little icon. Espritduo (talk) 08:57, August 8, 2013 (UTC)
yay, for once we agree with something! Thanks a bunch, dude. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 11:38, August 8, 2013 (UTC)

Your help would be much appreciated[edit source]

Hello, Espritduo. I really need your help. I have heard that you have all the Ultimania Omegas in your possession, and I've been dying to find some info from them, or be able to find translations with page numbers, most specifically for Final Fantasy XIII, XIII-2 and (much later, of course) Lightning Returns. This is for references on this Wiki and on Wikipedia. I thought at first that Mecrox might have them, but I was wrong as you can see. I am getting slightly sick of the vague references to the books on both wikis, since I want people to be able to find the info without borrowing or buying the book, or searching forever for scans that haven't been uploaded (this kind of reference thing has already been used to clear up the point of contention about the dates of the War of Transgression). The thing I was thinking is that you could upload scans when you have the time, which Mecrox might be able to translate when he has the time. What do you think? --Crystal Tear (talk) 07:47, August 11, 2013 (UTC)

I noticed Mecrox's translating skills when he started editing and was actually planning to ask him this exact thing, since my translating skills, while, let us say, existent, are not efficient enough to do any large-scale work and Mecrox seems to have exactly the level of proficiency and interest for Ultimania translating I was looking for. I do, in fact, have all FF-related Ultimanias ever made as well as all non-Ultimania official books, not just the Omega's, so anything at all you want scanned I can do. Just...don't ask me to scan entire books or hundreds of pages at once. I'm very lazy. Heck, I've been trying to scan all the artwork from the 25th Anniversary Memorial Ultimanias for almost a year now, and I'm only 2/3 done! As long as the amount is feasible, I can scan them all and upload them onto my own webspace for yours and Mecrox's perusal. Any pages/excerpts that are wiki-worthy can then be uploaded here. Espritduo (talk) 08:44, August 11, 2013 (UTC)
I think it should be perfectly feasible. I only want a few character specifics, not large interviews or masses of personal details. Nothing like the entire book. Would you like a list? --Crystal Tear (talk) 08:53, August 11, 2013 (UTC)
Sure, let me know what you want scanned, and I'll get to it over the next few days. Espritduo (talk) 08:56, August 11, 2013 (UTC)

Right, here we go.

  1. XIII UO: The pages with info about Serah originally being a playable character, and for Vanille being considered as a possible main protagonist.
  2. XIII-2 UO: The pages with creation info on Alyssa, Snow's scrapped DLC, Caius sending messages to his past self. Maybe even some creation info on Snow's new look (as there seems to be pitifully little on that anywhere, but it might be there).
  3. 25 Anniversary UO: The piece that show's Sazh's original look. If you've uploaded it already, could you give me the link?

There's no hurry, and I may well take some time to act on the scans you provide. Oh, and by the way, I don't even know any kanji: the limit of my Japanese is knowing a little spoken and romaji script. That's part of the reason I've been so frustrated about these things. Well, that's that. I'm sure I'll have requests for the Lightning Returns UO, but that must wait by necessity. Good luck with your projects and anything going on in your life beyond the wiki. Bye, and.. à tout à l’heure. --Crystal Tear (talk) 09:18, August 11, 2013 (UTC)

That shouldn't be too hard. Oh, and I do have the Sazh pic already on here, since someone (Kelt, I think) requested it a while ago. It's actually on Sazh's page, and somewhere up in my talk page, with the gist of the text, too. Here's the image. Espritduo (talk) 09:26, August 11, 2013 (UTC)
Oh yes, I forgot. Where is your store of images and info? I can't find it? --Crystal Tear (talk) 09:31, August 11, 2013 (UTC)

mecorx is a she, just so you know :p 09:51, August 11, 2013 (UTC)

Store of images and info? What do you mean? I don't have a single place on the wiki where I keep a record of all the stuff I upload, if that's what you mean. The images just go onto whatever pages they're related to, and whatever info can be gleaned from them goes on their pages as well. Espritduo (talk) 10:23, August 11, 2013 (UTC)
Well, this is the closest you're going to get for an archive of Esprit's images. Not very useful tho. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 10:37, August 11, 2013 (UTC)
Ah. Okay. Thanks for the update. Still, I'm sure I'll manage. --Crystal Tear (talk) 10:58, August 11, 2013 (UTC)
Just thought I'd give you a heads up on this. As usual, I sidetracked myself with a FFXII replay where I actually get the Zodiac Spear and every other item, so that's what I've been doing instead of, well, pretty much everything else. I looked in the FFXIII UO, but didn't see any specific sections dealing with playable Serah or any other scrapped stuff. I assume if it's anywhere it's in the interviews at the end. I'll get around to scanning them eventually, but if you could give me an exact page number if at all possible, I could scan that page real quick and have it for you now rather than whenever I get around to giving up on a mastered FFXII file and get back to scanning in bulk. Espritduo (talk) 20:16, August 25, 2013 (UTC)
I daresay it would be in the interviews at the back. But I don't have a specific number, damn it. I wish I could. If it's too much effort alongside everything else, you have every right to skip it. It's not the most important thing in your space. Enjoy your playthrough. XII is a superb game, one of the best stories in the series in my opinion. Oh, and by the way, I did something rather interesting this week, at first for fun and then in a serious vein: I've had a jolly good go at explaining the Fabula Nova Crystallis mythology, for all those who are utterly confused and lost in it,(let's be honest, many other sites haven't taken in all the info released in the games and whatnot: I even worked out Crystal Stasis!) though I have noted that all of it is my own work and people are entitled to disagree . You can find the link on my user page if you want to have a look. --Crystal Tear (talk) 20:37, August 25, 2013 (UTC)
Also, this may be of use - 20:33, August 25, 2013 (UTC)

Gorgon[edit source]

I've been looking for Gorgon (again). I went to that area, yes, I do encounter the rarer enemies like the Caterpillar and those ugly butterfly things, but no sign of Gorgon. I've been circling the area for ages now, and have been getting a lot of encounters, but it's like Gorgon doesn't exist. What the hell do I do? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 16:23, August 25, 2013 (UTC)

If you're fighting the caterpillars actually called "Caterpillar", then you're in the wrong area. You want the ones called "Hornworm". Also, I just booted up the game to see where the Gorgon was at, and it turns out you can fight them on the world map outside Kokkol's Forge. I fought one in the first battle I got into in that area. It would seem some things have changed between the DS and other versions, though, since Gorgon used to appear only on that little piece of land on the extreme western edge of the map, and now it seems they don't appear there at all. I fought there first for about fifteen minutes and was fighting enemies I don't quite remember being on that spot in the other versions, so I did a little exploring and found the Gorgon outside Kokkol's Forge. Espritduo (talk) 20:08, August 25, 2013 (UTC)
No, not the caterpillars in the Mist Cave. Well anyways. Let me see at Kokkol's Forge too. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 07:29, August 27, 2013 (UTC)

Hidden Passages in FFIV[edit source]

I'm filling in the list of hidden passages for FFIV - you remember that tricky maneuvering you had to do in Dwarven Castle to get the treasure? How do you explain that? And should we do one section for each secret passage, or should all secret passages in one dungeon be compiled in one section?

And one more thing: Remember that part where you can control the child Golbez and roam around the town? Do you think that's Mist? That abandoned house you get the MP+50% augment from, I'm really convinced it's the Harvey house too. I really need to know, I'm writing a locations section for Mist. Thanks, dude. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 09:41, August 27, 2013 (UTC)

The game doesn't say where Kluya's village was, so neither should we. And secret passages can just be mentioned or shown in one section. They're hardly important enough to detail each one individually. Espritduo (talk) 12:34, August 27, 2013 (UTC)

I know the game doesn't - but it looks exactly like Mist. Hmm, it's not really a section, it's a table - haven't you seen the Hidden Passage page yet? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 15:50, August 27, 2013 (UTC)

Crisis Core[edit source]

Hi, me again bugging you about guidebooks :). I dunno if you have a Crisis Core book or not, but it may be mentioned in the 10th Anniversary book too. The Genesis Copies and Angeal Copies, is the word used for "copy" in Japanese the same as the word used for the Sephiroth Clones? Drake Clawfang (talk) 13:44, September 3, 2013 (UTC)

They actually use the English word copy for the Genesis Copies (コピー, "kopī"). Espritduo (talk) 15:00, September 3, 2013 (UTC)

Oh, okay then. Thank you. Drake Clawfang (talk) 15:07, September 3, 2013 (UTC)

PNGify[edit source]

Hi Esprit, if you have time, could you please PNGify Golbez' CG DS render? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 06:08, September 4, 2013 (UTC)

FFXIV Images[edit source]

Sure, I was always kinda wanting a specific page for showcasing concept art anyways, so I'll definitely put them there when I get a chance. Same with the Golbez thing above. I'll get around to it...uh, sometime in the near future. Espritduo (talk) 17:11, September 11, 2013 (UTC)

Gorgon[edit source]

Yo Esprit, Gorgon's in. Sorry, I'm really sorry it took so long. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 11:26, September 14, 2013 (UTC)

Proto-Babil[edit source]

Hey Esprit, this wiki's strategy on Proto-Babil isn't much help. I'm just concerned about that part when the monster's HP becomes critical - I mean in the iOS version you can only have one Limit Break augment but in the DS you have two and that makes such a huge difference. Help? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 07:41, September 28, 2013 (UTC)

I've never fought Proto-Babil on the iOS version, so I'm not sure what to tell you. I only fought the thing once, and basically spammed Ultima as best I could to beat him from what I remember. Espritduo (talk) 09:50, September 28, 2013 (UTC)

Well okay, thanks anyway. And about that Gorgon thing. This sounds like a stupid question, but won't equipping two opposing elements, say Ice Shield then Flame Armor, like...make it messy? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 12:20, September 28, 2013 (UTC)
You mean Geryon? I believe the elemental resistances/absorption override the elemental weaknesses, so it shouldn't hurt to equip both. Espritduo (talk) 18:41, September 28, 2013 (UTC)
Okay, thanks. By the way how's that Golbez render doing? I don't want to force things on you so if you don't have time to do it, I'll ask someone else. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 10:19, September 29, 2013 (UTC)
I'm currently completely absorbed in FFXIV, and am lucky if I remember to eat, so uh, maybe find someone else, heh... Espritduo (talk) 06:38, September 30, 2013 (UTC)

Your vast troves of knowledge are required![edit source]

Hi there Esprit, I hope you're having a pleasant day. I wonder if I could point you towards this forum. I feel I'm not going to be able to progress much further in my work to clean up the pre-FFVII shop tables without some assistance, and you and Fenrir are most likely to be able to help; we're lacking a lot of version information that you may or may not know of. Tia-LewiseRydia - Young battle.png 07:37, September 30, 2013 (UTC)

Golbez[edit source]

Aha. Happy playing. And don't forget to eat. s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 16:24, September 30, 2013 (UTC)

Equipment help[edit source]

Fighting Geryon. Cecil and Kain can absorb Lightning, Ice, and Fire, and I gave Rydia and Rosa the Gold Hairpins to halve the Lightning damage.. is there really no way to absorb Tsunami? This is my equipment list for now: Cecil - Ragnarok, Ice Shield, Crystal Helm, Flame Mail, Cursed Ring. Ice Shield doesn't do shit, does it? It halves Fire, so if Flame Mail absorbs Fire, it's best to remove Ice Shield, right? Kain - Holy Lance, Flame Shield, Dragon Helm, Ice Armor, Cursed Ring. I gave Rosa and Edge the Protect Ring to halve "Primary Elem.". Which leads me to the question, what's Primary Elem? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 13:29, October 14, 2013 (UTC)

Nothing you can do about Tsunami, just gotta survive it. If Kain has the Dragon Helm, then he doesn't need any other elemental equipment since the Dragon Helm resists Fire Ice and Lightning. Same with Cecil and the Crystal Helm, which also resists Fire, Ice, and Lighting. Those two pieces of equipment are all you need when combined withe a Cursed ring to absorb everything, so you can put better armor and shields on Cecil and Kain. And Primary Elements is just Fire, Ice, Lightning. So you don't need any other elemental equipment on anyone with a Protect Ring, either.Espritduo (talk) 19:41, October 14, 2013 (UTC)
Okay, so I don't need the Ice Shield or Flame Mail? Okay, thanks, that helped a lot. And last question, is there any equipment that resists Berserk aside from Cecil's things? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 08:00, October 15, 2013 (UTC)
Crystal armor is it for Berserk prevention. Espritduo (talk) 08:26, October 15, 2013 (UTC)
Yea..but is there anything possible for the others? Nothing at all? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 10:57, October 15, 2013 (UTC)
Nope. Weird, but that's the way it is. Berserk is more of a buff than debuff usually, though. Espritduo (talk) 16:48, October 15, 2013 (UTC)

FINALLY[edit source]

I. defeated. Geryon. Took a shot of the horns while it was fading. The game crashed after I saw the victory screen. Saddest story ever. I'll upload the shots in a few hours. Ha, aren't you proud of me? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 18:56, October 17, 2013 (UTC)

Magitek Knight and Magi[edit source]

I have a question for you, and I'm wondering if you could help me out when you have the time. In FFVI, we have the term Magitek Knight and Magi. Now, while looking for the Japanese term for Magitek Knight on the internet. I've found that in the Japanese version it says Magi (魔導士) instead of Magitek Knight. The reason I ask this is because I've read that Kefka was the first man-made Magi (魔導士) on the Japanese wiki, the English version uses Magitek Knight instead. Now, I'm wondering if you could confirm this? I guess, my goal would be to point out that they are rooted from the same nihongo in a trivia section on both of their respected articles or merge them both since the root nihongo is 魔導士. So I just need confirmation from someone with more knowledge in the Japanese language. Fenrir9 (talk) 20:26, November 18, 2013 (UTC)

Scan Request[edit source]

I recently requested User:Mecorx to translate the interview section of the Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Ultimania (pages 737-742). I found the scans on this page of the Nova Crystallis forum, but most of it is too low a quality for Mecorx to so proper translation on all but the first two pages. This is the translation he has done so far. If/when you have the Ultimania in question, could you do some full-page scans so we can get all those juicy development secrets? No hurry, and if you can't do it, I will understand. It is not an essential. --Crystal Tear (talk) 17:56, February 1, 2014 (UTC)

Hah, wow. I didn't even know the LRFXIII Ultimania was out already. I've been spending waaaaay too much time in Eorzea. Thanks for letting me know it was out. I'll be buying it ASAP, and will try to get away from FFXIV long enough to scan those pages for ya. Although...I may wait until I actually beat the game before cracking it open. Part of the reason I haven't been visiting the wiki apart from FFXIV is because I don't want spoiled on this game. Already had the final boss spoiled mere days after the game's jap release because someone uploaded the images of it here, soooo I've been keeping this place at arm's length recently. Espritduo (talk) 06:02, February 2, 2014 (UTC)
Understood and sympathized with. I seem to be one of that rare breed of fans who can be spoiled silly about the ending and still enjoy the whole journey (like peaking at the end of a book and still enjoying reading it through). In fact, it was not knowing that gave me bouts of indigestion about this game. You can take your time with the Ultimania. And just from me, without spoilers, what I've seen is truly epic. --Crystal Tear (talk) 09:04, February 2, 2014 (UTC)

The After Years artwork[edit source]

Do these pieces happen to be from The After Years Official Complete Guide? I haven't been able to find a copy myself (out of stock or something). If so, does the book have any other unique artwork you could scan? (and the developer's interview, if you please.) If not, then I'd like to know the source anyway. Firebird (talk) BlackMage-bd-icon.png 04:20, March 25, 2014 (UTC)

I have several TAY guides and artbooks, and I believe I have scanned and uploaded all the artwork from all of them onto here. Those three Akira Oguro pieces, iirc, are from the "Final Fantasy IV & The After Years Complete Arts" artbook that came with the collector's edition of the FFIV and TAY PSP bundle. Tons of good artwork there from all the various incarnations of FFIV, and everything in it from TAY should be in the TAY art category: Espritduo (talk) 13:27, March 25, 2014 (UTC)

Request: FF13 Ultimania Omega P486-487[edit source]

Hi there, I heard from JBed that you might be able to help me. I'm working on translating the novella which spans P480-P506 of the Final Fantasy 13 Ultimania Omega. However, I've run into a small problem as P486-487 seems to be missing from the copy I found online. Would you happen to have time to make a scan of those two pages? Thanks for your help! By the way, this is what I have translated so far:  mecorx (talk) - 02:01, Jul 06, 2014 Microchu ATB.png

Seems simple enough, heh. I can try and get that scanned for ya this week sometime. Espritduo (talk) 12:41, July 9, 2014 (UTC)
Thanks a million! I'm not sure what resolution/dpi you can scan at, but the higher the better (for reading the text)! A two-page spread from the version I have is ~2900 x ~2100 at 72ppi.  mecorx (talk) - 16:18, Jul 09, 2014 Microchu ATB.png
Hi again. Someone else has scanned these pages for me, so you don't have to do it anymore. Thanks anyway.  mecorx (talk) - 21:20, Jul 24, 2014 Microchu ATB.png

Geryon[edit source]

Yo Esprit. What's your plan with the Geryon bestiary shot I gave you? s̅̅s̅̅o̅̅r̅̅c̅̅̅̅e̅̅n̅̅i̅̅v̅̅i̅̅d̅̅ 13:52, July 10, 2014 (UTC)

Artwork Question[edit source]

You uploaded both File:Genji Armor FFII Art.png and File:Genji Armor FFIII Art.png, among numerous other equipment artwork pieces. Are they really given as separate artworks in the guides? They're quite clearly the same piece, just different quality. Drake Clawfang (talk) 17:43, February 6, 2015 (UTC)

The FFII artwork is from an FFII guide, while the FFIII artwork is from an FFIII guide. For many of the items, yes, the artwork appears to be nearly identical, but eh since they were from different guides and many of the items were not the same image, I treated them as separate images when I scanned and saved them to my computer, and kept everything organized the same when I uploaded them. Feel free to combine/delete as you see fit though :) Espritduo (talk) 03:51, February 13, 2015 (UTC)
I'll see what others think. Thanks. Drake Clawfang (talk) 04:33, February 13, 2015 (UTC)
I assume this explanation also applies to the identical FF2 and FF1 artworks? Drake Clawfang (talk) 04:38, February 13, 2015 (UTC)

Hi good morning. I'm currently deployed to Iraq and we pulled one of your images for our company mascot and in order to use it we need your permission so we can have company t shirts made. May we use your chimera image? Please let me know at Thank you for your time

FF9 Art[edit source]

Hey there, I just noticed how much ff9 concept artwork has been uploaded by ya and was wondering how you got to it? are there any artbooks or anything like that for all of ffIX? I didn't expect there to be. Thanks so much if you respond. 23:47, December 10, 2016 (UTC)xen

Espritduo hasn't been here for a while, but this book might be up your alley. :) He's scanned a lot from Ultimania books, like some of the anniversary Ultimanias I think have art that isn't anywhere else.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 02:55, December 11, 2016 (UTC)
Woo i still get emails when people update my talk page apparently! But yeah the Art of FFIX and the 20th and 25th Anniversary Ultimanias are where basically all the FFIX-related artwork I have came from. Yoshitaka Amano's The Sky also has a bit of Amano artwork from FFIX that isn't anywhere else. Espritduo (talk) 23:12, December 11, 2016 (UTC)

What type of scanner do you use?[edit source]

Hello, I've decided to purchase and scan some FF books. Do you have any recommendations on the type of scanner to use? Thanks  mecorx (talk) - 07:38, Jan 03, 2017 Microchu ATB.png

I use an Epson GT-20000. Pretty heavy duty and expensive, but I've done things with it I could never do with normal sized scanners. :) Espritduo (talk) 00:34, January 4, 2017 (UTC)
Nice. I had a feeling it would be an A3 scanner. I was looking at the Epson ones, too. I just thought I'd scan some myself, since you probably don't have time to cover everyone's requests :P. Do you damage the bindings on the books to get them to scan properly?  mecorx (talk) - 03:49, Jan 04, 2017 Microchu ATB.png
What do you think of this the Epson WorkForce DS-50000 Color Document Scanner. 600dpi both ways, but should suffice for web stuff? I wish they still had something between that and the Epson Expression 11000XL...  mecorx (talk) - 10:51, Jan 04, 2017 Microchu ATB.png

ff6 art source help?[edit source]

got any leads on the first one? (dunno how else to contact you and i have no idea how wikis work, sorry if i'm doing this wrong)
