Yuna[edit source]

Dear 8Bit BlackMage,

I'd like to bring up a concern as to Yuna's Dissidia page. I find it insulting that you have been deleting all attempts to her page when this scan was released:

It supplies enough information needed to start her Dissidia page. But you keep deleting them.

BUT, When Tifa was first announced, only by one very poor screenshot from a cell phone with no information as to why she is currently in the game and what her moves are, let alone if she's even a playable character... She was granted a page for Dissidia.

Please, let Yuna her Dissidia page. This isn't fair to anyone that Yuna cannot have one because "There isn't enough information" when Tifa started with just one very poor screenshot and no information.

Thank you for reading my concerns.

Garnet's Name[edit source]

Lightning, Balthier, and others all list their real names in the opening... DoreikuKuroofangu 05:44, February 15, 2011 (UTC)

Seriously, those names should not be located above the spoiler tag. I would even remove Dagger from Garent's intro, and change the other pages as well. 8bit 05:47, February 15, 2011 (UTC)
To be fair, there are unmarked spoilers all over the place. A lot of the intros on character pages contain spoilers, naming aside. DoreikuKuroofangu 05:50, February 15, 2011 (UTC)
Also, real names usually isn't all that great a spoiler. Like, knowing Garnet's real name isn't a great spoiler, it doesn't ruin any of the story or plot. Even with Balthier, where he name could hypothetically reveal his relation to Cid if someone connected the dots, it isn't really a spoiler without the context established for it's significance and point of reveal. DoreikuKuroofangu 05:53, February 15, 2011 (UTC)
EDIT CONFLICT: Paradiastole. Though there are many unmarked spoilers in intros, aliases and real names are clearly marked spoilers that should be relocated as such. Garnet's name is a spoiler because the player can go through the entire game without realizing her true name; there's a full sidequest dedicated to finding out her true name. Balthier's case is lesser, yes, but why have it in the intro when it's immediately mentioned in the story section? Names can always be explained in the story section instead of the intro. 8bit 05:57, February 15, 2011 (UTC)
Yes, it is a spoiler, but it isn't really a major one is in? Knowing Garnet's real name doesn't spoil any of the game, it's an unknown fact but it hardly changes the player's experience as they play. I think it isn't just when spoilers are unmarked, but are they important enough to be marked. And even then, some spoilers are present in the intros - Golbez is Cecil's brother, Terra is half-Esper, Jecht is Sin, etc. IIRC, a page intro is supposed to provided a summarized overview of the page, and if that's how it's supposed to be done spoilers are inevitable.
Also, what is "Paradiastole"? Drake Clawfang (talk)
Paradiastole is rhetoric where a fault is covered up by euphemism, as in revealing Sarah in the intro is okay because of other pages doing the same thing. Actually I'm probably using it incorrectly but I learned it and it sounds cool. 8D
In srs bizness, you do have a point with Terra. <.< You could have varying degrees of spoilerism in this case, though. You could merely say she's an Esper and not elaborate on her childhood. If you reveal Sarah then you spoil an entire sidequest <.<. The fact that THERE IS SIDEQUEST makes me really want to keep Sarah out of the intro. We can't remove all the spoilers, but we can definitely keep the obvious ones out.
Derp. It does say Golbez is Cecil's brother. That is major spoiler there. I suppose you can't really write an intro without listing a bunch of spoilers, and all the names emboldened at the beginning of the page do help with Wiki organization.
asdfghjkl;. Nevermind what I say anymore. @____@ A spoiler-less intro would be nothing. This is called flip-flop.
I guess I was just protective of Sarah's name because you don't learn it during the course of the main game. I do think a policy should be considered where extra information not explicitly revealed in the course of the central storyline would be preferentially kept underneath the spoiler bar. 8bit 06:20, February 15, 2011 (UTC)
Aye, it does sound cool. If you want to leave Sarah out then go ahead, you're the Admin, Screw The Rules You Make Them ;p, I just felt it should be left in for consistency with the other page. As a whole, our spoiler policy sucks and is pretty vague. DoreikuKuroofangu 06:24, February 15, 2011 (UTC)
In this case, it's probably best for me to be consistent and leave Sarah in simply because it's a name we refer to her by and is emboldened, as you edited, in the opening sentence of the intro, for redirect and disambig purposes. A contrasting example would be mentioning on Mog's page that he's instrumental in recruiting Umaro. This remains all subjective, but hopefully we'll let other wiki policy (like the emboldened names) do more of the dictating. I dunno how the problem will come up again. ._. Anyway, thanks for pointing this stuff out ^^ 8bit 06:34, February 15, 2011 (UTC)
No problem, it felt good to revert an edit that wasn't a waste of time and effort ;p. DoreikuKuroofangu 06:36, February 15, 2011 (UTC)

Question about the bot ignoring you.[edit source]

I was wondering, with a recent change I made to the bot, whether it would be okay to take you off the ignore list. I just today limited the learned responses module by requiring users to address the bot to use it to solve user complaints with it picking up unwanted items. That just leaves the Sorceror l'Cie module for SN and the normal random responses as the only things that will activate automatically. SN also asked if there was a way for the "Seen" function to bypass the ignore list, but this just isn't possible.

Essentially, what I'm asking is if you'd look over the remaining terms here (Final_Fantasy_Wiki:IRC/SacredMinotaur) and see if you'd be willing to be taken off the ignore list for others' convenience. I'm open to changing or even removing response triggers to help avoid things triggering for you. Again, this is voluntary, and if you'd like to remain ignored, you can. Thanks in advance. Bluestarultor Best-of Stellar Arena sigicon.png BSA 20:41, March 27, 2011 (UTC)

No problem, you can take me off the ignore list. I'm on the channel infrequently, and with less automatic responses I'm sure my comments won't trigger the bot too much anyway. Thanks for letting me know. 8bit 22:31, March 29, 2011 (UTC)

Image[edit source]

I've been using an image, named 'Cloudroll.jpg,' on my user page and it was deleted. Checked the deletion log and saw that you had deleted it. Surely, there has to be a reason; the other image I also uploaded and used on my page is still there. Was there something found wrong on the image or tied to the image?

The image was deleted mainly because it is a montage of images and thus only for userspace. Our policy is that userspace-only images should be hosted on an external hosting image site like Photobucket, with the exception of your own fanart. Hopefully you can upload your montage there and then link to it externally, using Photobucket URL. 8bit 16:08, May 23, 2011 (UTC)

Parents the Command Abilities and Support Abilities of the game. Command Abilities further parents the individual command abilities of the game, support abilities, I imagine, parents the support abilities of the game. 19:45, June 8, 2011 (UTC)

Also, 8bit, this goes against "Each ability does not necessarily get an article. However, each player ability and skillset gets one". If you want us to compile all information into one article... huh? And what I said here: Talk:Time Magic (Final Fantasy V). 19:54, June 8, 2011 (UTC)

Hurr. I think I did flub this up. It is better to have plain "Ability" pages instead of "Spell" pages... I wanted to go further and just make an ability page. There have been so many gray areas in the past concerning how we compile certain types of abilities together or consider abilities separate that the skillset rule is one I would like to hold on to. So I think I will be reverting what I did, Xeno. 8bit 00:50, June 13, 2011 (UTC)
Also, I propose scrapping the Spells compilation page and expanding it into a full "List of Final Fantasy V Abilities" page. 8bit 00:57, June 13, 2011 (UTC)

Skillsets are just a type of command. Listing abilities in each skillset only have to be done on the skillsets page. List of Command articles should list all the commands, and link to each command's article.

The current Command Abilities (Final Fantasy V) article lists all commands and their job (it neglects Attack and Item, and perhaps Row and Defend, but that can be rectified). The current Support Abilities (Final Fantasy V) article lists all non-command (or "support") abilities. And List of Final Fantasy V Abilities serves to parent both command and support abilities. As if to encompass all abilities in a single article that can be linked on {{navbox FFV}} (which it isn't) and "Abilities" (... which it also isn't??).

IMO, FFV's ability layout works fine as it is now. However, I don't think Magic-based skillsets should be collated on a List of Final Fantasy V Spells page, but for each of them to get their own article. 16:47, June 13, 2011 (UTC) how long do you think redirecting all of those articles is gonna take? Probably quite a while if you ask me...
I can't promise that I'll be doing that much redirecting, if any, however. I do have other things to do than work here mind you! Xenomic 02:15, June 15, 2011 (UTC)

Mm....dunno. Depends if I have nothing else to do while converting videos. How long does it usually take for the Links page to refresh itself from templates, since I already fixed all of the templates for these? Only reason that I even moved them was due to "anon" there on the Flare talk page suggesting it so eh! Xenomic 02:27, June 15, 2011 (UTC)
It usually takes about 2 to 3 days before the "What Links Here" refreshes. 8bit 02:31, June 15, 2011 (UTC)

Comment on the Forum Thread[edit source]

I apologize for commenting after the dateline. Thank you for pointing it out.
I really was serious about the whole maintenance thing tho, but I suppose I didn't check the wiki out that much either to talk about maintenance. I do hope that you, Yuan and Fae would do something about the backlogs aside from hunting someone else to do it - tho to be honest I have more hopes on you and Yuan than Fae - he's just out there to get me... just kidding. BLUER一番 03:39, October 11, 2011 (UTC)

Such a shame that an Admin, and one of the oldest users still active on the Wiki as well, feels the need to resort to petty backhand insults and obvious baiting of other Admins. Doreiku Kuroofangu 03:49, October 11, 2011 (UTC)
Bluer, isn't what you did by leaving the wiki, thus catalyzing the need for the three of us to be elected as admins, the same as "hunting someone else to do it"? I am the least knowledgeable admin about wiki maintenance that involves coding and the css, but I think I've done some work with policy and backlogged articles for deletion when I was active. But yeah, there are definitely more knowledgeable people than me on the nominee list when it comes to coding, so why not have more elections? It's been 3 years since the last serious nominations... hopefully I haven't been totally useless during that time ^^
Also np about the dateline thing, your comments were considered regardless. 8bit 04:05, October 11, 2011 (UTC)
Yes, it is: it's a pretty direct jab at the recent admins - they also say that judged not lest ye be judged - so in the end I got to be jabbed at as well. My leaving did trigger it - and I did left for personal circumstance I rather not say now - and I say I'm glad it did with you guys on the staff, but looking at the current wiki situation I thought you, Yuan and Fae could have done something else aside from considering new staff members.
But I suppose it's been awhile and we pretty much need someone who's more well-versed in technical aspects. I haven't made any support just yet for the new nominees. BLUER一番 04:39, October 11, 2011 (UTC)
It's like you said, though: we also have our own personal circumstances, and that unfortunately impacts on our activity. I sincerely wish you could have pointed out what else we could have done earlier. Looking over the thread which started this, there was a lot of frustration from the community about the lack of admins around, and a desire for new ones carried over from the previous threads in that vein. Taking that into account, it seemed to be a good idea to air out who might be suitable and why. — YuanSalutActa 05:29, October 11, 2011 (UTC)
And I really wish I had saw the thread discussing the inactivity earlier - so that we'd try to come up with a way to rouse up the current resource of admins. There's probably a curse flying around the wiki that causes real life to swamp you out the moment you become an admin or something ^^
Do you guys think the admins should start a centralized admin noticeboard so that we could be seen more actively than present? It could be used by the users to post requests for admin technical assistance - but to make sure it works it has to be on the admin's watchlist. BLUER一番 06:00, October 11, 2011 (UTC)
I think that's a fantastic idea. — YuanSalutActa 06:17, October 11, 2011 (UTC)

Getting a banner for The Keyhole up on the front page[edit source]

As has been expressed here, The Keyhole (the Wikia KH Wiki) already has us listed as an affiliate. I believe that us not having kept up our end of the link shows bad faith on our part and I'd like to see it rectified. I realize this revolves around the current discussion, but the consensus seems to be that there's nothing wrong with linking both on our front page regardless of who is linked in our articles, which is not so prevalent that it can't be decided later. I'm sending this out to all active admins in hopes that there will be communication and ultimately a fast result. Bluestarultor Best-of Stellar Arena sigicon.png BSA 19:22, October 16, 2011 (UTC)

Final Fantasy - Dummied Features[edit source]

Hello, I've not left a message like this before so excuse me if I do anything wrong please, but I've noticed that on the Dummied Features page for Final Fantasy there is a bit of incorrect information there for FFVIII.

It is said that "An unused FMV exists on the game disc which depicts a Lunar Base probe being destroyed by the Lunar Cry."

However, that FMV is used and it is used like this: follow Ellone into the lift room for the escape pods, then go back into the Lunar Base control room, then go up to the control panel where the user views the moon and press the X button. When you do this, the FMV in question plays and you see the probe being destroyed.

Are you responsible for fixing this? If not who is? I would but I'm not too sure how to go about doing such things, thanks!

TSLoire 20:00, April 10, 2012 (UTC)

Anyone can fix it. Just got to the page it's on and click the "Edit" button. Cat 20:04, April 10, 2012 (UTC)
I have taken the liberty of fixing it. I have also added to the Lunar Base#Trivia to explain how it occurs. Thank you for alerting us of the issue. ;p JBed 20:08, April 10, 2012 (UTC)
