Public Service Announcement[edit | edit source]

I'm taking a sort of hiatus from the FFWiki. I'm still lurking, but not editing very much. At the moment, I'm busy helping with the Wheel of Time Wiki[1]. I'll be back eventually though.

Another Announcement[edit | edit source]

I would like to point out that Vancouver is in fact not the capital of British Columbia. My city, Victoria, is. Got it? Victoria is the capital. It is on Vancouver Island, not in Vancouver. It is across the straight from Vancouver. Victoria. Got it? Thank you.

About Me[edit | edit source]

You can just call me Johnny or Jon. (Not 'John', however. Never that!) I grew up and live in British Columbia, Canada, the land of free health care and P2P lawsuit protection. My interests outside my bedroom include swimming, cross-county, track and field, tennis, badminton, movies, and just chilling with my buds. On days that I decide to have no social life, I like to draw, play video games, stare at this computer screen, watch more movies, and read. Otherwise, I'm either at school or at work.

Gaming[edit | edit source]

My first gaming console was a Playstation which I received when I was 8. The first game was A Bug's Life, one of my favorites, which was soon joined on that list by the original Spyro The Dragon trilogy.
The story finally started, however, when I was 11, and I was lent Final Fantasy VIII. I became immediately attached to the series and quickly got my own copy. And then that's when the fun began.

My competitive athletic life is on and off, depending on the season. I'm an endurance athlete, and take part in cross-country, track and field, swimming, and occasionally the odd of game of tennis or badminton. As most of these seasons are quite short, I compensate with various athletic courses at school to keep myself in shape.

Superbosses[edit | edit source]

While I have completed every mainstream Final Fantasy game's storyline, I do not pretend to have felled every superboss. Often it's because they require a lot of leveling which I am not prepared to put in a lot of time into right away, and so they wait. Note; I'm only listing the main-series ones here.

  • Geryon (Final Fantasy IV DS) [ ] Haven't got around to that New Game+ yet.
  • Proto-Babil (Final Fantasy IV DS) [ ] As above.

  • Omega Mk.II (Final Fantasy V) [X]
  • Neo Shinryu (Final Fantasy V) [ ] Trying to get some more Dragon Lances first.
  • Enuo (Final Fantasy V) [ ] Waiting to beat NeoShinryu.

  • Kaiser Dragon (Final Fantasy VI Advance) [X]
  • Omega Weapon (Final Fantasy VI) [ ] Didn't get around to traversing the dungeon a second time.

My greatest weapon is boredom!!!!

  • Ozma (Final Fantasy IX) [ ] Lost patience with the sidequest.

  • Hell Wyrm (Final Fantasy XII) [X]
  • Omega Mark XII (Final Fantasy XII) [X]
  • Yiazmat (Final Fantasy XII) [ ] I'll do it one day when I have oodles of worthless time at hand.

  • Long Gui (Final Fantasy XIII) [ ] Simply haven't reached the insanely high level required yet.
  • Vercingetorix {Final Fantasy XIII) [ ] As above.

Game standings (Main Series)[edit | edit source]

Squall Gunblade.jpg

1: Final Fantasy VIII
This was the first Final Fantasy game I played. Coincidentally, Squall ended up becoming my favorite character in the series. I really liked the futuristic aspect of this game and enjoyed the military structure and back story.

2: Final Fantasy IX This game was a really fun one. The mini games were amusing and I was pumped for the huge use of Black Mages and Moogles. (The part where they replace Omega Weapon with a giant, multi-coloured bouncy ball was the only down-side to this game.)

3: Final Fantasy VII I know this would usually be a lot of peoples' #1, but it's not quite that up there for me. Although this game DID have my favorite antagonist (Sephiroth) and the materia system was pretty interesting.

4: Final Fantasy VI This was another very fun one, rather than epic. Like IX, it bordered the line between explosive and cute. I really enjoyed the humongous cast as well, as well as the large storyline involvement of the Espers.

5: Final Fantasy IV Really liked the story line and the large cast of playable characters. I also found it very refreshing to not have to brainstorm on which characters or jobs I should be using at any given point.

6: Final Fantasy There's something that's just undeniably great about the original game. Sometimes such simplicity is golden.

7: Final Fantasy XIII I really had a lot of fun with this one, but I had to throw it somewhere in the rankings.

7: Final Fantasy X This is the median line. Don't love it, don't hate it. Wasn't the most memorable of the series, and a little easy, but it was still a good story line.

8: Final Fantasy XII The main problem here was the monotony of travel. With such large spaces between each destination in the storyline, getting anywhere took quite a while. Furthermore, if your characters were underleveled, the game was actually TORTURE. I had to take a good hiatus from the plot to power-level a bit before being able to continue. Also, the storyline seemed a little weak. The more obvious, political aspect is a little more clear, but nearing the end of the game, everything becomes confusing, with little being explained. Plus, where was the love interest?!

9: Final Fantasy II It was alright. It DID have the first complete story line in the series, but as far as it went, it could've had a little more...pizazz?

10: Final Fantasy III I sort of found this one bland. Still the same ol' crystals being destroyed and letting in the evil. It might have been because I played the DS version, which tried to give a little background to the generic characters, but it didn't work out well. I found that the characters have to be completely generic, like the classicalness of the original, or be completely the story like later games. The in-between didn't work well.

11: Final Fantasy V This one was the blandest of the bland for me. I don't know why, but it just never caught me up in excitement at all while playing it...

Random[edit | edit source]

Black Mage - FIRE.gif

When in doubt, use fire on it! It's always the first choice listed in your arsenal. If you're in doubt on what to use, then there's almost no chance that your foe is strong against fire, and the the odds that it's weak to thunder and ice are slightly lower. Fire is man's best friend. (Sorry, Fido.)

The katana is the sword's more talented cousin. Admit it. When you see a character holding a regular sword, you don't think anything special of them. They will most likely hack and slash their way through the enemy in a very bland way and then be done. Now, if they hold a katana, then they almost certainly have crazy ninja skills and will bounce of the walls and run across the ceiling in an amazingly epic fashion!

Screw saving the world. I'm rich! Hey, instead of facing legions of demonic minions to stop the villain from destroying the crystals, why not just pocket them leave? So what if the world falls into darkness? With the gil these babies would net, you could buy your own brand new world!

IV-edward sd.png

You spoony bard! You know, it's pretty bitter-sweet knowing that you can play an instrument SO badly that enemies will drop dead from the sound. So you have a choice. You could take music lessons, but then you'd be killed by the hordes of hellish monsters. You could stay bad, but then you'll never get that girl.

FFT Moogle.png

They're hiding something! The Tactics A2 moogles trembled in fear at the thought of losing their pompoms. The moogle's pompom in Unlimited glowed when he fought. Is there some kind of power hidden in these pompoms? A great, holy force or a dark, ancient evil? And is there a reason why Minimog from FF8 lacks one? It is a mystery that may never be revealed. Just beware. It's a conspiracy...

Should have just rented a condo.. Why did a mere five, statuesque beings need to build themselves an enormous, unoccupied city swarmed with monsters. They don't use the extra rooms. Everything just collects dust, as it's way too much to clean. They could have made things sooo much easier for us if we only had to trek through the Great Apartment rather than the Great Crystal...three times! >.<

Alright! Give this kid a sharp blade! Does anyone find it strange that a man told his 12-year old son to keep his hatchet - that he had just learned how to use - and to have fun? He said "be careful", but I don't think that counts for much.

Under My Skin[edit | edit source]

What get's under there? Well let's divulge...

  • 'lil Gangsters
  • Scene kids
  • Skaters who try to be gangsters
  • Action heroes who star in movies with 12 year old kids to save the world
  • Fast food franchises
  • How Coke-a-Cola and Pepsi think they can just run the whole world
