Unofficial, ideas only

An imagined remaster of Final Fantasy XIII for the Nintendo Switch.

Revisited areas[edit | edit source]

  • After completing the area's chapter, a NORA safe spot is added.
  • This is a camp set up in the middle of the area, to which the player can travel to and from at any save point.
  • Additionally, various shortcuts are added to various points of the area.
  • In revisited areas, NPCs and sidequests are added, which can be interacted with at any point of the game.
  • Enemy formations are also changed somewhat.

Combat[edit | edit source]

  • The game interface is changed, while still adhering to the same ATB mechanics.
  • No Auto- mechanic exists. The playable characters not being controlled will still fight automatically, however switching control can now be done mid-battle.
  • Abilities are used instantaneously without first being queued.
  • Available abilities are shown without accessing a sub-menu.
  • The tier of ability is changed by pressing one of the shoulder buttons; right for increase one tier, left to decrease. Only affected abilities will change, others will be usable at default.
  • Pressing L1 allows the player to change individual character's roles.
  • Pressing X confirms, and a Paradigm Shift is made, pressing circle denies the change.

Engagement[edit | edit source]

  • Battles are engaged with a R1 strike, rather than running into the enemy.

Ability Selection[edit | edit source]

  • Abilities are mapped to the face buttons.
  • The player may then use L1/R1 (or D-Left/D-Right) to switch between sets of abilities only.
  • L2/R2 (or D-Up/D-Down) is used to switch tiers of abilities.

Crystarium[edit | edit source]

  • The level cap increases only after defeating the chapter boss, same as in the original game.
  • This allows for freedom within those parameters, as the player will always end up at the same stat total in the end of the chapter.
  • The Crystarium now allows the player to freely allocate stats to small and big nodes.
  • Purchasing a big node gives an additional bonus to that stat, for example Strength gives an additional +2.
  • Abilities can only be acquired at big nodes, at which they may choose which of the available abilities may be acquired at that point.
  • The player is not allowed to complete the Crystarium without acquiring all abilities.
  • Previously acquired stat bonuses may be rewritten to an ability at any point; this does not work in reverse.
