Sky to Lola

Sky (real name Ciel Hankon) is a playable character and is the main protagonist the entire Chronicles Berserk Numinis XVI series. She appears as the central character of Final Fantasy XVI, Final Fantasy XVI-2, Final Fantasy XVI-4 and Final Fantasy XVI-5 as is a major character in Final Fantasy XVI-3. In Final Fantasy XVI, she is initially shown to be have a cold persona but quickly becomes the most caring person and the one who is most adamant to keep the Lights together.

Sky has the distinction of being one of the few female main protagonists of the main Final Fantasy series. The few others who share this distinction are Terra Branford and Celes Chere from Final Fantasy VI and Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII.

Appearance and Personality

Final Fantasy XVI

Sky. The lofty atmosphere that protects our planet. But don't look to me for protection - I only deliver annihilation.

Sky

Sky is a fit young woman with long light purple hair, light azure blue coloured eyes and a heart shaped face. She wears her own variant of the Alpha Corporation uniform. Her outfit includes a half sleeved royal blue shirt of which the sleeves go down to her elbows. The shirt goes down to slightly above her belly button and is loosely based on a tank top design. The shirt exposes a large amount of cleavage which is covered by a dark brown ladies' vest. She wears a small diamond encrusted Star shaped pendant around her neck which dangles slightly below the bottom of her neck. She wears a golden mini-skirt over the top of a pair of pink jeans which end slightly above her knees. She wears silver high heeled fashion boots which go up and slightly above her ankles. At times, she wears, over the top of her whole outfit, a short black trench coat which ends just about where her jeans end. The coat itself has 4 buttons across the front to fasten the coat. The arms end just above the wrist and have a strap on the end of each. Around where her biceps would be, the jacket has 2 white straps which are separate from each other by a larger golden strap on each sleeve. She has a light black case which she attaches at first on her back and later close to her midriff in which she puts her weapon, Lightspark Blade, in.

Final Fantasy XVI-2

In Final Fantasy XVI-2, Sky initially wears the same attire that she did in Final Fantasy XVI. Before entering Oblivion, Sky dons a suit of armor. Sky wears a predominately black Valkyrie-like suit of armor with a silver shield on her left arm which - like her new gunblade - can be summoned in a flash of light. She also wears knee-high armor boots and along her suit are golden highlights. She now wields a gunblade called "Resolute Feather", rather than a blade, which can be summoned in a flash of light in any form - be it just the blade, the sword on a chain or a gun. Sky's hair is now slightly longer, although it is fashioned in a practically identical way to how it was in Final Fantasy XVI. Sky's armor, shield and sword all have lines of Celestial Verse across them.

Final Fantasy XVI-3

Sky is seen in both her Final Fantasy XVI attire - when she is seen in worlds that Rose and Lola visit - and also in her Final Fantasy XVI-2 attire - as seen in Rose's dreams and her Heart World. Notably, Sky's armor no longer has Celestial Verse across it.

Final Fantasy XVI-4

Sky now occasionally wears a long gown in a fashioned style in which the robe part of the gown is thrown across her front. Sky's armor has been slightly altered to have Celestial Verse all across it which disappears normally, but when Sky is using her sword, it dimly glows, and when she uses magic, it glows bright.

Final Fantasy XVI-5

In Final Fantasy XVI-5, Sky appears in identical attire to Final Fantasy XVI-2.

XVI: Identity -Final Fantasy-

Sky. I'll be watching my back.

Sky to Lola

Sky is first seen as a body guard to the president of Dieu. As Lola is about to assassinate him, Sky senses something is wrong as takes out her sword, stopping the dagger from hitting the president. She catches a glimpse of Lola and chases after her. A fight quickly breaks out between the two. After an intensive battle, both of their weapons start to glow and they transported to a cave. After a few seconds of bewilderment, the women are back to fighting. After days of fighting, both women put down their weapons and call a truce. Both accept each other's strength and become good friends. Their weapons start to glow again and they are transported outside Sky's mansion. Sky invites Lola in and Sky tries to reason with Lola to stop being an assassin. Lola does admit that it isn't her ideal job and considers it.

One month on, Lola has stopped being an assassin and she has a boyfriend - Minim Breve. Meanwhile, Sky has found a new job as part of the Alpha Corporation and has found her own love in a colleague - Matthew Haywood. She is happy living with him and becomes good friends with Minim too.

Final Fantasy XVI

No matter what the challenge, I will stand and fight. You know I will.

Sky to Devi

Sky is seen training in her mansion with Lola. After fierce fighting, the two call it a day. They take a break and sit down to eat as Minim serves up lunch. Matt barges in and hugs Sky before telling them all about the fact he has a massive surprise planned for Sky. As she shrugs him off, Matt pulls out a tuft of flowers and offers them to her as her birthday present. Lola gives Sky a survival knife and Minim gives her a box of chocolates. Sky thanks them all and quickly goes upstairs and Matthew sees that she is crying - although as he walks near, she stifles her tears. She tells Matt that she misses her parents. Matt consoles her and tells her that they would be proud of her if they could see her - of which Sky is doubtful. He then hands her a dress and tells her put it on.

Matthew takes her to a restaurant - "The Moon" - and there he proposes to her and gives her her trademark pendant. As they walk home, they take a train and go to see the "Fly Hill" - a trademark attraction in their city. As they walk around the central lake both are fascinated by the summer breeze

Final Fantasy XVI-2

Sleep in peace, my dear Devi - I shall wake you from your slumber.

Sky

Sky appears in the sequel as the main character of this game. In the very beginning of the game, Sky is seen as the last character to forget Devi, but eventually even she succumbs.

Years later, Sky is fighting the monster outbreak when Rose, her sister appears to her. Sky tells Rose to get inside, but Rose insists that she has something to tell Sky. In the ensuing conversation, Sky is distracted by a monster and runs off leaving Rose on her own and undefended. After killing the monster she turns around and is terrified to see a group of monsters surrounding Rose. As she is running towards her sister, she kills many monsters but before she can reach her, one of the monsters jumps towards Rose. As Sky watches on horrified, Asger jumps in and saves Rose from the monster. He gets her to safety as Sky thanks him and scolds Rose for coming out here.

Post Calamity

After The Calamity Sky is forced to leave her home in Devi and relocate, elsewhere on Eden. She leaves with the rest of Alphas and keeps Rose close to her whenever she is travelling.

When the group is later ambushed, Sky keeps Rose close. She tells Rose to go with Zero, Asger and Storm as she fights alongside Lola, Minim and Agni. Rose reluctantly leaves and Sky fights off the outbreak of monsters. When the group later meet back up at Haven, a massive city. The Alphas move into the Heaven Dome in the center of the city. As the group is relaxing, the city is overrun with monsters. The prince of the city, Richard, implores the Alphas to defend the city. The Alphas agree and Sky goes out to see the status of the outbreak. She quickly dismisses the plan as suicide but relaxes the Alphas saying that they fight to protect that which is dear to them. Rose tries to reason with Sky but Sky coolly shrugs her off and when Rose starts to cry, Sky hits her saying she needs to grow up. She runs off and fights. Meanwhile, Rose starts to pray for her sisters safety, but later decides that praying for her sister isn't enough so takes up arms. As Rose walks out, she is spotted by Asger who asks her to go back inside, but Rose tells him what is happening and tells him she must speak to Sky. Asger agrees that she can go to Sky, so long as he is around her and protects her.

After a long period of fighting, Sky is tired, but Rose suddenly appears. Sky is furious and forces Rose to go back inside the Heaven Dome. Rose is then slapped by Sky and forced to go back inside - with Richard himself guarding her safe entrance. As Sky is fighting, she picks up a crystal that was lying on the body of a huge monster. She is able to use this to cast magic. Sky continues to use this. But later when she encounters a similar monster to the one that she defeated earlier, the crystal on that monster's body fuses to form a gas which travels around infecting many of the humans. Sky tries in vain to kill more monsters. As she is about to fall back into the dome, she sees a vision of Richard being infected and trying to kill Rose. However Rose is able to defend herself with a sword and a stranger helps Rose to throw Richard of her. However she then sees that Richard is moving towards a door with a smile on his face. As he opens the door, it is revealed to be harboring many destructive explosives. Sky snaps out of the vision and starts to sprint towards Heaven Dome. She runs in and sees Rose far away with an injured man. As she shouts out Rose's name, the dome explodes propelling both her and Rose backwards.

As Sky crawls out from the rubble towards the littered corpses, she notices that all the monsters have disappeared. She calls out Rose's name and hears a faint mumble. She runs towards Rose and holds her in her arms. As the rest of the Alphas surround her, Sky sheds a tear as she tries to restore to her sister a sense of hope, but Rose knows that she can do nothing. She says to her sister to keep on going and asks Zero to protect her. With a final "I love you", Rose passes away, looking at her sister with now lifeless eyes. Sky holds Rose close and cries and the whole group shed a silent tear.

Later a remembrance service takes place in which the Alphas and all of the people remember those who died. Sky looks up to the sky and remembers her sister. As she walks away, Zero tries to comfort her, but she tells him calmly to leave her alone. That night Sky sleeps on the same spot that her sister died on. As she dreams, Sky sees her sister and has flashbacks of the life her sister had. Sky then sees herself and wakes up, crying, and blames herself for the death of her sister as she was the one who sent Rose to the Heaven Dome. As she later goes back to sleep, she continues to dream of her sister - until her dream is interrupted by a vision of a woman shouting her name. Sky wakes up and doesn't recognize the woman - even though it is Devi.

The next day, Sky is walking aimlessly towards the remnant of the Heaven Dome, before Asger grabs her hand and tells her to stop. She shrugs him off and caries on walking with Asger walking behind her. As she explores the rubble, she comes across a large crystal. Upon touching it, it starts to glimmer and shine a blinding light. Its light starts to emanate in wisps. When Sky reopens her eyes, she sees that the whole dome has crystalised and rebuilt itself and that the city is now a lush paradise with tall structures and a palace. As Sky is bemused she notices that Asger is nowhere to be seen. Just then she sees a child running through the dome as a woman follows him. The woman picks up the child and tells him off for running and she catches a glimpse of Sky and laughs. A bewildered Sky shouts for Asger and he appears telling her not to panic, commenting on how beautiful the place is. Before her eyes, figures of people start to appear within the dome. All seem to find it beautiful and are tourists. Sky asks Asger what is going on to which he replies that sightseeing was Zero's idea. Zero turns up and says to them that it was a good idea. Storm coolly says that they should get going to which they all agree. Sky follows them up to the palace to find King Raithwall already waiting for them and greets them saying he has expected them and he has their rooms ready. Once they are alone, Sky asks Zero where she is, to which he replies Haven. She asks him about the destruction that the monsters caused but he is clueless and, while shedding a tear, she asks him about Rose - but he doesn't know who she is talking about. Sky breaks down and Zero gets her to her room. Sky suddenly feels very ill and goes to sleep.

She wakes up later, to find a palace that is empty. She walks around and can see no one. She walks into the throne room and sees Rose standing there. As she goes to hug Rose, her sister's apparition disappears and reappears in various places. Finally it vanishes and the castle is starts to shake and is engulfed in wisps of darkness. She then sees Devi, who asks for her help. Sky still doesn't recognize Devi and asks who she is and where she is. Suddenly, arrows of darkness start to rain down. Devi protects Sky by conjuring a shield of light. Devi grabs Sky's hand and tells her to run. Both start to run against the onslaught of arrows. Devi leads Sky to a portal and tells her jump through. She says it was a mistake to call Sky to her at this moment. She tell Sky to find her when she is ready. Sky tells Devi to come through but Devi shakes her head and pushes Sky through. Sky lands collapsed and gets up to find herself in her bed. Zero walks in through her door and asks Sky if she had a bad dream. Sky nods and Zero laughs - saying that he didn't Sky was someone who was even capable of having dreams. Sky looks down and ponders whether what she saw was a dream or a precognition.

Sky gets up and starts to walk about, when she sees a man wearing a suit of armor and a robe and holding a staff. She follows the man who walks out of the city. Just as he is about to pass out of Haven, he turns and confronts Sky. He says to her that he knows who she is and where she comes from. When Sky asks what he is talking about, he responds saying that Sky doesn't belong in this timeline, that this timeline is false. Sky asks what happened when she touched that crystal, sensing that this man knows what happened. The man responds saying that if she wants to find out, she should follow him. Warily, Sky starts to follow him. As soon as they leave Haven, they are transported to a crystal laden cave. Unaware of what is going on, she asks him where they are, but he doesn't say anything, she just continues to follow him. They appear in a throne room. A vision of Rose appears and the man asks Sky if she wants her back. Sky says yes - to which he tells her that she has to return to the truth. The world she is in now is a fake, made by circumstance and she must go back to the destroyed world - no matter how painful it may be. Sky agrees and asks how she can do so. The man says she has to replicate her emotions at the point that "tipped the balance". She asks if that is when she touched the crystal - to which he replies no. He says that the crystal only arrived there after something happened. As the cave and the man dissolve in front of her, she returns to the Heaven Dome.

She looks around and sees no one there. She walks out to find no one. Suddenly the ground starts to tremble and she rushes into the dome. As the place starts to collapse, she kneels down and sheds a tear as she remembers Rose. As that tear touches the floor, the ground stops shaking. As Sky looks up, she sees the crystal she touched start to glow. When she opens her eyes, she is back in her original world. The man from before looks at her and then vanishes. As Sky walks out, she sees a woman standing, looking at her. Sky follows her and this time stops and asks her who she is. As the woman turns around, she sheds a tear which crystalises and shatters, forming a gigantic orb. Sky steps into it and sees Devi in a wasteland. As she is walking, Devi suddenly jerks forward, collapsing on the floor. A man appears beside Devi, with a sword in hand and is about to kill her. Devi glances at Sky and Sky realizes who Devi is. As Sky is launched out of the orb, she turns and sees the same woman and the robed man from before conversing. As soon as the woman turns around and sees Sky, she vanishes. Sky rushes up to the man and asks him where Devi is. He explains how Devi has ended up in a world called Oblivion. Sky asks what she can do about it. The man asks her a posing question - What are you prepared to do to get her back? Sky responds by saying "anything". Here, she has various flashbacks of what she and Devi did together and how they defeated Odio. The man nods and says that in that case, he will return tommorow - and he expects Sky to be ready. He creates a portal and tells her that this can be used to travel between the two worlds - the reality in which Sky is living in and the illusion she created - but she should know that he will only appear in this reality. Sky nods and he vanishes.

People start to reappear and she walks around and talks them. She eventually finds Zero and hugs him.

Final Fantasy XVI-3

I'm sorry Rose - but you've got a world to save.

Sky to Rose

Although she does not appear physically in the game, Sky is crucial to the plot. A point of contention within the various characters is the fact that no one but Arvalis believes Rose and Lola about Sky and Devi's fates. She also appears in many flashbacks to Rose, Lola and Arvalis.

Sky returns as the main character in this game. Following their deaths, Sky and Devi have gone to the realm of Spirit. Devi has become its goddess and she has elected Sky to be her Knight. However, Devi is making radical decisions and there are protests all across the realm.

Eytmology

The developers of the game chose to name Sky after the sky for they felt that her personality is very much in the vain of previous protagonists such as Cloud Strife and Lightning and they wanted to give her a name linked to those two. Her real name, "Ciel" in french means "Sky" whereas "Hikari" is the Japanese word for Light.
